Hello everyone,

Has anyone here have tried applying for affidavit of support if your petitioner has income of 15,400/year? Can't he possibly get me if we could not find any cosponsor? This is driving us crazy. There are many people in the USA who have lower than what he has and got many kids but still can survive the life of America. I'm sure I won't be a burden to him because I have my degree and I'm willing to take any extra courses related to my course just for me to get a job once I go there. What are we going to do now, if we can't find any co-sponsor? I am just wondering if someone could answer or has anyone from your experiences have the guts to pass their current affidavit of support with salary of $15,400 or any other poverty limit that has been approved. This is really driving us nuts :(

Please anyone?

There is no way to be approved with an income below the 125% poverty line. The CO has no discretion there, the povertline is the absolute minimum- they only have discretion above that, ie if you make the 125% but are just above, or your income is temporary or whatever.

A couple of options:
- He can try to find a second job- even a couple of nights a week flipping burgers will add up.
- Cast your net wider looking for a co-sponsor: out of state family, old highschool friends, church family, neighbours, co-workers etc.
- Do you have any assets? As a married couple, your assets can be counted.

You going to need to make another $4000 to make up to the guidelines or have assets.
I know it seems not fair or whatever but this is the requirement. Sorry
1. Assets, house, property
2. Co-sponsor
3. Second. Third job just to make up that $ 4000 a year.

All the best.

He just got promoted and I am so thankful on that. BUT it would not be enough yet :( I've tried some of my friends, they were willing to help at first but they got afraid because they have read the liabilities. I can't blame them. What we are planning to do is, transfer my money to his account. Would that be possible?

Yes- ish. There is a danger it will look like you are "paying him for the greencard". If using assets, it is always best to be well over so ideally, you'd be declaring some $20'000 in assets.

Really though, if he jsut got promoted and still only makes 15,400/year, maybe it is time for another job.
