Cook something that you are good at. Don't try to impress them by making their dishes because it won't be good enough usually

I realize this is a little different, but when I met my fianc嶪s family, they cooked a normal meal and it was wonderful. Everybody was relaxed and no special work had to be done. Good luck!

Hello all!

I have been thinking about cooking something very special for my husband relatives, What kinda of food do you guys think is nice? easy and cheap, lol

thank you.

Simple would be a pork loin (roast). Salt and pepper it, add a 1/4 cup of water, cover it in tinfoil and throw it in the oven @ 275 degrees for an hour and then turn it up to 350 degrees for one more hour, take off the tinfoil top for the last 20min and it's ready. Make a pasta salad from the box along with French bread and your good to go. Get a pie from the store for desert. Little cooking, little mess to clean up and you have a full meal.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Since I don't know what kinds of meat your family-in-law prefers or if they eat meat at all, I can only guess.

Youtube and allrecipes.com are good places to help you decide what to make. Aside from their useful demo videos, some seasoned chefs share really valuable culinary secrets on Youtube most of the time. Read user comments on allrecipes.com and combine ones that you think will improve the quality of your meal.

You might want to prepare linguine with shrimp and mushroom for your family-in-law. Garlic bread will be fine with that.

For something heavier, rosemary braised lamb shanks will do. I've made this a few times before in a slow cooker. Cook risotto separately. When my husband and I had dinner in Mozaic in Downtown Sarasota, I thought that my home-cooked lamb shank was as tasty as their Moroccan-style lamb shank. Just use any cheap red wine to cook the lamb shank but for pairing during dinner, get a Zinfandel. You'll find a pleasant California Zinfandel from $20 to $49.

I think it would be nice to make something from your birth country; that way your new family get a bit of a taste of where you are from and maybe get to try something new!

Lamb is an aquired taste imo unless your from Australia or New Zeeland. For wine you can do a lot cheaper and just as good with a German Moselle and/or Rhine like Blue Nun even or a Washington or California Rhine. The shrimp linguine though would be great with the garlic bread and a green salad.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.
06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).
07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?
09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).
09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).
10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."
12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.
12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.
12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.
01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.
01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.
04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").
05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.
05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).
06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."
07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.
08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).
08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Notice the words "cheap and easy" in the OP's post...just like I prefer my women. Nobody is going to know it's from the box once it's sitting in a bowl. You can't screw up a pork loin, pasta from the box w/oil isn't noticeable to anyone who's not a connoisseur and garlic bread in the oven is another one you can't screw up. You can even get salad in the bag, throw in a few tomatoes and croutons and once that's in the bowl nobody is going to know that it came from a bag. A cheap bottle of Blue Nun or better yet an off the wall German Rhine that nobody has heard of let alone be able to pronounce it's name and after dinner go with the coffee and an el cheapo pie and your dinner filled the gut, tasted decent and by the time desert is over with your ready for them to go home.

Make sure you stick the empty boxes for the pasta along with the price tag from the wine bottle and the salad bag at the bottom of the garbage and no one is the wiser. I used to be master of the cheap date. Iv'e bagged more gals with cheap champagne than I have with the Dom Pérignon. Pull off the price tag, stick a small bow on the champagne and tell them you got it for Christmas a few years back. It's all about presentation.

Have you ever tried that Betty Crocker Suddenly Salad? It's not bad at all. Food doesn't have to be complicated in order to taste decent.
