Hi VJers,

My sister went for her DV visa today. She has to leave Ghana by March 20th and I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for cheap airline tickets. From my search, it looks like round trip tickets are cheaper than one-way tickets. Her dates are flexible so anytime between now and March 18th will be fine.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

For Nigeria between Kayak.com and vayamia.com I usually find the cheapest tickets without wasting hours to save a few dollars. Prices will drop after the holidays being the cheapest in Feb/Mar usually. If you do the round trip thing make sure the first leg is the one from Africa to the US , you can't use just the return leg. If you are a no show for the first half the second half is automatically void. You can check when she arrives if there is any residual value that can be credited, usually it costs more to keep the value than it is worth but check.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

12/1/11 - 221g - Need police clearance qatar. SIGH

12/4/11 Hired a P.R.O to do the police clearance in Qatar

12/29/ P.R.O Mailed the PCC to my fiance using DHL

1/3/12 Received PCC from QATAR, dog chewed it :(

1/4/12 Sent the taped PCC to USEM

1/6/12 USEM received 221g

2/14/12 - APPROVED happy valentines day!

For Diversity Visas delta in Accra offers a special immigrant price, and it is MUCH cheaper. Call the agent through the number for that region which you can find on the Delta website. She would have to go to their offices and pay cash for the ticket. We thought we could get that price for my fiance, but it turned out that K-1 visas did not qualify (which seemed unfair!).

2/04/2010 - I-129F sent

2/08/2010 - NOA1

3/30/2010 - NOA2 Approved!!

4/07/2010 - NVC received

5/12/2010 - Packet picked up/interview date assigned

10/25/2010 - Finally back in Ghana to visit!

11/01/2010 - Interview--mostly positive, but consular officer requires cosponsor

11/24/2010 - 3rd appt.--Finally have all documents in. Result-Administrative Processing! Consulate says they will contact my fiance

05/18/2011 - Admin processing complete! Babs is asked to appear at the embassy on the 25th.

05/25/2011 - En route to the embassy, Babs is robbed on the roadside. His passport and other papers are all stolen. After filling out a police report, he arrives at the embassy a little late, and they allow him in to speak to the CO, even though he has no valid ID. Thank God! The CO gives him another appointment on June 15th, to bring a new passport and also an updated police certificate.

06/14/2011 - New passport (expedited) ready.

06/15/2011 - The CO finds a missing stamp on the new passport. Sends Babs back to the passport office and tells him to return in the afternoon. All is taken care of. VISA APPROVED!!!! PRAISE GOD!!!!

06/24/2011 - Visa pick up date--told to return on the 30th.

06/30/2011 - Babs returns but doesn't get the visa. Back in AP!

10/05/2011 - Embassy brings Babs back with updated medical. Approved!! CO sets pick-up for only 2 days away, so as not to delay him any longer.

10/07/2011 - VISA IN HAND!!

The Delta deal is only through the end of this month though. So I will get that ASAP. We got my wife's ticket for $1272 dollars way better than kayak and others were suggesting and we bought it only last Thursday.
