In the guide, it says to send originals of proof to your fiancé(e) for the interview, what originals exactly?

Will they keep those originals? Or can I get them back?

You should provide originals of all documents to substantiate the copies provided. They may ask for any/all originals at the interview, so it's best to have them available in that event. They don't keep the originals...they should just compare them with the copies to verify the copy is accurate. If you don't have copies, however, they may keep the originals in that case.

Ok, thanks. In the documents I sent for proof, I have passport stamps. I won't have to send my passport for the originals, will I?

Don't send your passport to India. The copy of that is fine.

The statements above are correct.

If you don't provide copies they will keep originals. I lost 3 years of tax records at the consulate. I didn't even think about it till later when I needed them for something else. Mark your originals carefully and keep an eye on them. They don't need to keep anything. They only need to see it and have a copy for your files. With the high quality of the copy machines today it is easy to get confused in the paper shuffel. I would take a sharpee and put a dot on the top corner of each original.
