Techy help needed...

I'm a MAC user and have very little experience of PCs. Don't all shout at me at once. I just love MACs, used them for work for many years, and that's why I know very little about PCs.

On this crappy old PC I have a problem with IE. Don't all shout to use other browsers either, I need help with IE!

When I have a browser window open, and right clink on a link to open the link in a NEW window, it closes the window I am in to open the link. It has only just started doing this and, for obvious reasons, it's pretty annoying. Any lovely techy people out there know what things I could try to stop this?

Could be a spyware/malware issue.

Did you "accidentally" install MySearch or one of those nasty search bars?

But.....I can't resist....

Go back to a Mac. Use Mozilla on your Mac (or Safari). No more problems. lol

I haven't done a system reboot so I'll try it.

If there's a search bar installed, it certainly wasn't me, and someone will pay when I next see them! I will poke around to see if I can find one.

I can't wait to get home to my frigging MAC, believe me, boys ;)

Thanks for the replies people

Possibly a virus, you have an anti-virus program?

AdAware is a good, free (for personal use) anti spyware program...download here.

ad aware sucks. if you want a decent program and one that offers real time protection instead of one that just protects you when you manually start it, get webroot spysweeper.

HINT: When using a PC, if it starts to act "not right", don't even call me until you've rebooted. :)

Did you watch the IT Crowd?

hehe, no, but that is my standard reply as I'm the default 'tech person' in my circle ( o sorry day...).

oops, just went to look up my inspiration, and found your IT crowd! (http://farm.tucows.com/blog/Other/_archives/2006/3/14/1820776.html#attachments)

Here's my version, courtesy Dogbert:

The heading: Dogbert Technical Support

User (on phone): I'm having a problem with --

Dogbert: Shut up and reboot.

User: Hey, it worked! Than--

Dogbert: Shut up and hang up
