job hunting, watching tv (Saved by the bell on TBS, Airline on A&E, Days of our lives on NBC), housework, and when I want to get out of the house, I volunteer at the school (I recommend it).

Because I know my fiancee will be bored during the day while I'm at work, I plan on putting some things together to help her through it. She can pick and choose as she likes or completely disregard and come up with her own ideas. Here's some of the things I plan to provide her with:

-- Local newspaper description

-- Local area maps

-- A bicycle and rollerblades

-- A city bus pass

-- Educational information package for local schools/colleges

-- List of local businesses catering to her culture

-- List of local volunteer opportunities

-- Membership to local health club

-- List of local events (Shakespeare in the Park, State Fair, Park Concerts, Markets, etc.)

-- List of local hobby classes (pottery, painting, book clubs, scrapbooking, etc.)

-- List of requirements/activities for AOS and citizenship

-- E-mail account, MySpace page, and lots of computer games

-- X-Box with her selection of games

-- Subsciption to a magazine of her choice

-- Full cable TV and Philippines TV online

-- Library card

That's not a full list, but it's a good chunk of what I have planned. If anyone can think of some other beneficial items to add to the list, please do so. My intent is to help her have enough activities to choose from that she will be able to pick out items that interest her and take it from there. She might pick one, two or several of the items or she might come up with something of her own. Some of these ideas work hand-in-hand. For example, let's say she's interested in photography as a hobby. With some local maps, a bike, and a bus pass, she can explore the city and take photos that interest her. That would help fill some of her "free" time productively and give her something to look forward to doing. At the same time, some of these activities would support the concept of her finding some friends of her own, which I have read is often a concern of our newly arrived fiancees.

Well, I nearly wrote a book, so I'm outta here for now.
