Hi Karah,

I went to DMV with an EAD card, passport, original and photocopy of our marriage certificate,SSN and a credit card [am an extension of my hsuband]. I filled out the form went on the line, they reviewed my identification, photo taken and made me take the written test. A week later I received my learner's permit.

On the driver's manual read where it says documents you need to show them and how many points are each. I needed 6 points [i think] worth of identification that's why I brought all those. They will not accept an EAD card only you should have other proof of identity with the corresponding points.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

All states are tightening up due to home land security. If your I94 is expired and you do not have letter of acceptance for I485 you will not get a DL. SSS should come back stamped not for employment without Home Land Security Approval approval. You need the letter acknowledgement from USCIS, wait for SSS card. Plan 2 go back and see another person.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

with a little patience, you will take care of this issue. Wait for your SS card to arrive in the mail, you do need to present that as proof of identity. In what state do you live? Some states-not too many- started to reject EAD as proof of legal presence in US.

Hi fellow VJ,

I guess they are really looking for a document that i have been approved already. the only reason why we wanting to have a driver's license so my husband can include me to his car insurance as one of our proof for upcoming interview on July 27. and also, he would be gone for his annual military training on july 9.by the time he would be back, 2 days left for our interview and we would not have time and we wouldnt like to rush thing later.. one of the fellow VJ's also told me that she was included by his husband car insurance not as a driver but to indicate that he has been married and lessen also the monthly payment.. if we do that, would it help as a proof as an evidence for our interview? anyway, tomorrow, we would try again our luck to have a written exam in nearby county =) BTW, I'm in the state of Alabama. Thank you

When we had our AOS interview we didn't even have a car, no joint insurance of any kind but we had other pieces of evidence of our marriage. Yes, any joint car insurance is a plus and USCIS doesn't even care who is driving or who is not driving. If I were you, I wouldn't stress too much pushing to fabricate evidence when you don't have enough tools to do it. USCIS understands that. If you don't know what to bring to your interview just ask here and we will come up with some tips. It's not that bad as it seems to be.
