This information is for U.S. citizens who wish to petition for or “sponsor” their alien parent(s) to live permanently in the U.S. Only U.S. citizens are eligible to petition for their parent(s). A U.S. Citizen must be at least 21 years of age to petition for a parent. Lawful Permanent Residents may not bring their parents to live permanently in the U.S.

For Whom Are You Petitioning?

I am a U.S. Citizen and Petitioning for:

My mother:

If you are applying to bring your mother to live in the United States, you must file the following with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (please note: if you have been legally adopted, you may not petition for your birth parent):

Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative (if you are filing for both parents, you must file a separate petition for each parent)

A copy of your birth certificate showing your name and your mother’s name

If your name or your mother’s name is different now than at the time of your birth, you must provide evidence of the legal name change.

If you were not born in the United States, a copy of either

Hi,

I'm paying for the AOS tonight for sponsoring my parents and call NVC tomorrow morning to confirm they combined the two cases together.

Now, I have a couple questions, hopefully you'll explain them to me?

1) After I pay the AOS fee online, do I have to send out the AOS package? How can I get the AOS package?

2) Looking at your timeline, looks like you paid the fee for DS-230 before you sent DS-230 package. Who is the person sending out that DS-230, me or my parents sending directly from other country to NVC? Are there any supporting documents that needed to included with DS-230?

Thanks.

Quang

1. yes. Download the forms.

2. this is normal. could be either yer parents or you, depends on if the DS-3032 was filed, or not. Please read the DS-230 instructions, they need civil documents.

Do you have a question?

yes, actually.

So, during this whole process: will my mom also receive a copy of any immigration letter send to me?

I sent out the petition the same day after i was being naturalized on 11/14 by express mail.

Mail arrived in Chicago lock box on 11/16 noon.

I received email/text notification yesterday 11/18 that it's being route to Calif.

I was given the receipt and case number, but I was advised to not check it online until I received hard copy from the mail within a week.

When I get the hard copy, will my mom also get a copy in Indonesia? just curious.

No she does not get any copy unless you used her adress as mailing address. Even thought they said not to check for updates, you can still check out of curiosity to see what is going on..that was what I did. I also filed for my the same day I got naturalized. I paid the IV fee today and now I am waiting d police report which shoudl be enroute to me so that I can send out her DS-230.

Hi Sistah,

I will start the application to bring my Mother here in October and was wondering about the total costs from the beginning (except for the plane ticket).

Reading your timeline is exciting cuz you are almost done!

Goodluck and thank you :)
