Looming US Government Shutdown

It is not clear but indications are that a lot of what happened during the 1995 government shutdown will occur again.

I am not sure what this means. Are they referring to the NVC processing center, the USCIS, and the Embassies or one or two of these government facilities?

This is from the Wall Street Journal today.

VISAS and PASSPORTS: Applications for U.S. passports and for visas to enter the U.S. went unprocessed in the 1995 shutdown, to the frustration of travelers, airlines and travel agents.

It looks like you will be okay if you already have your Visa.

I contacted USCIS today and they said that they have not heard anything about it. She also said that they would not be effected by the shutdown. But then again I would believe a three year olds opinion after the shutdown before I believed there's. I contacted my senators office and they are going to try and find out, but he didn't think it would.

Well, I don't think this is going to affect those forms that they already have accepted and cashed checks for along with those forms. ( I am referring to USCIS forms) Logically, government already utilized those money, so they ought to be acted upon.

"The American Department of State is primarily responsible for the "back end" of the U.S. Immigration process as most immigrant visa and K-1 visa applications for loved ones abroad must be adjudicated by a United States Embassy or United States Consulate with appropriate Consular jurisdiction. Before a visa application can be adjudicated at a US Mission abroad it must first process through the United States National Visa Center. The reason that the NVC and the US Missions abroad are being mentioned in this article is due, in part, to the fact that were a government shutdown to occur processing of visa applications at NVC and US Missions abroad could effectively cease :o until such time as the controversy in the USA is resolved and the US government "reopens" for business. Therefore, those with pending visa matters before the United States immigration apparatus should be prepared for possible delays in the visa process should the United States government shutdown."

So basically the VSC and the CSC would conitue to function however the NVC would not. Right?

Unfortunately no, the Federal Employees at VSC and CSC as well as the NVC will all be home twittering their thumbs next week with the exception of critical personnel which includes some managers, security staff, etc.. Now the Embassy workers in most cases are considered "critical" so in all likelihood, they will continue working as usual. Sorry for the bad news it sucks! I hate (HATE MIND YOU) my future happiness in the hands of the government, good grief!!!
