Hi, quick question about luggage pick up. Will my fiancee need to pick up her luggage after each flight since it is international and she might not be using the same airline company? What if it was the same airline company?

Manila to Nagoya

Nagoya to Detroit

Detroit to Boston

Thanks.

Is she taking JAL to Nagoya then AA to Detroit and Boston? Usually you don't have to check-in each and every time. The airlines take care of it. When I travelled with Cathay and UA going to ORD, I didn't have to check-in twice.

12-16-2010 (Day 1) I-485, I-130, I-131 and I-I-765 applications sent to USCIS received
12-27-2010 (Day 11) NOAs received thru USPS plus Biometrics schedule for 1/12/2011 @ Michigan City IN and Rejection Notice for I-131.
01-05-2011 (Day 20) I-131 Refiled
01-12-2011 (Day 27) Biometrics completed in 10 minutes (whereas the drive is 1.5 hrs one-way, thanks to snowstorm in IN)
01-31-2011 (Day 46) RFE received (received via email alert)
02-22-2011 (Day 68) Response to RFE received by USCIS (received via email alert)
03-03-2011 (Day 77) EAD Card in Production (received via email alert)
03-14-2011 (Day 88) EAD/AP Combo Card Received
04-14-2011 (Day 121) Interview, Approved!
04-18-2011 (Day 125) E-mail alert received for Card/Document Production
04-23-2011 (Day 130) Green card in the mail
Removing Conditions
01/14/2013 (Day 1) Mailed out I-751 documents to CA Service Center
01/22/2013 (Day 8) Received Receipt Notice
02/13/2013 (Day 30) Biometrics Schedule @ Michigan City, IN

Awesome, another from Boston :)

Sounds like she is flying Delta, right? That has been my itinerary every time I have flown to see Jessa. As long as you booked the ticket so that it shows each flight there should be no troubles. Detroit will be her POE so she will have to claim her luggage there and go through customs with it. Once through customs she will pass by a conveyor belt manned by an attendant who will take her checked luggage (which they recognize by the fact it has the tag on it) from her so it can be routed to her plane to Boston. Again, as long as the tag that they put on the luggage in Manila shows that Boston is her ultimate destination, the luggage will be transferred properly.

In Nagoya they will transfer her luggage to the Detroit bound plane. She will have to go through the security checkpoint with her carryon luggage but that is all that she will have with her.

Best of luck!

Kevin

Normally checked baggage is transferred. Since your fiancee is flying Delta/Northworst there is a chance she may have to in Detroit. It is best to call the airline to check.

You always have to transfer your own luggage once you hit the US POE to go through customs.. Looks like Detroit she'll have to transfer. Tell her not to pack any food or prohibited items! =) They like nabbing the folks that look like "fresh meat".

Wow that was quick, Thanks. Yep She's taking Delta all the way. After her POE interview she will have to claim her luggage and go through customs with it? even though she is getting on another Delta flight for her last leg? Ok so if that's the case and her flight arrives at 12:30 and departs at 1:50 does that give her enough time to go through the waiting in the immigration line, the POE interview, Get her luggage and go through customs and get to her flight on time? Sounds like it might be close! Your thoughts?

I just found another Delta flight that is identical for the first 2 legs n has a layover of 3 hours before departing to Boston, much better!

MUCH better option. You don't want her to miss a flight due to slow processing at customs. When is she coming?

Jessa is in her interview right now and if all goes well, I am looking at going to get her on 4/4, flying back on 4/10.

Yes. You MUST pass through customs with all your possessions. Then any checked luggage can be re-checked for the continuing flight.
