Hi,

My wife's naturalization interview is going to take place on Jan 18th. She got a letter just last Wed listing additional documents she needs to bring to the interview, including her CA driver's license or state issued ID. Problem is she has neither since she doesn't drive, and never bothered to get the state issused ID. She's going to the DMV on Monday to apply for her state issued ID, but I'm afraid she won't get it before her interview. What is going to happen then? She has been working for the past 2.5hr years, and has documents like W2 forms and mortgage payments to prove that she lives in California. Will her application get delayed, or denied because she doesn't have state issued ID.

if the state ID doesn't arrive, she'll have to explain the situation to the officer. she has to take her passport anyway. that's an ID. if she has more than 1 passport, take them all.

that happened to me as well. I thought that I had enough time. I went to the DMV in Miami 3 weeks before my interview last year in June. I received the state ID a week after the interview, it took a month. I did what I stated above. I also took the receipt to the interview just in case, but the officer never asked for it. I don't drive either.

They need some document with a photo ID, the passport has a photo ID and she has to take it anyway. Does she have any other card with a photo ID. have her take it as well.

every officer is different, but I had no problems, I passed the interview.

The other thing that you might want to consider taking is any mail in her name that arrives at your address.

It smells like the 'optional stuff' section.

She is also required to bring her passports, did you know that? Yet, if she has no passport, which she also is not required to have, she can't bring one. Does that make sense?
