Hey all,

So following upon the advice of many of you here, I went today to our local IRS office.

Indeed, it took me literally 5 minutes to have the transcripts in my hands. They only asked to see ID and since it was a joint filing with my wife they wanted to know both of our SSNs. However they did not even ask to see my SSN. I also found out that they can give past transcripts of any place you've filed at in the US, not only locally.

However, as I also expected, when I simply asked for "tax transcripts for 08 and 09" they DID ask me to be more specific and whether I was referring to "tax RETURN transcripts" ... I said yes.

Should I have asked for anything else too?

Anyway, what I got was this.

I am just the general format of the transcript I got, picking the 2008 one at random:

---

Tax Return Transcript [sSN#] 1040 [number]

IRS

This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data

Tax Return Transcript Request Date: 06-14-2010

Response Date: 06-14-2010

tracking Number: [number]

SSN Provided [number]

Tax Period Ending: Dec 31, 2008

The following items reflect the amount as shown on the return (PR), and the amount as adjusted (PC), if applicable. They do not show subsequent activity on the account.

SSN: [number] SPOUSE SSN: [number]

NAME(S) SHOWN ON RETURN: [NAMES]

ADDRESS: [address]

FILING STATUS: Married Filing Joint

FORM NUMBER: 1040

CYCLE POSTED: ....

RECEIVED DATE: Apr. 15, 2009

REMITTANCE: ...

EXEMPTION NUMBER:

DEPENDENT 1 NAME CTRL:

..etc.

Income

WAGES, SALARIES, TIPS, ETC: ...

TAXABLE INTEREST INCOME: SCH B: ...

TAX-EXEMPT INTEREST: ...

...

etc.

It continues on p.2, etc. 7 pages overall.

(They include: Income, Adjustments to Income, Tax and Credits, Other Taxes, Payments, Refunds or Amount owed, Third Party Designee, Interest and Dividends,

Schedule E -- Supplemental Income and Loss, with sub-headings,

Form 1116 -- Foreign Tax Credit with subheadings, Parts I-IV

Form 8863 -- Education Credits (Hope and Lifetime Learning Credits)

So will these transcripts suffice?

It basically comes to my old question which still remains unclear, namely: is the CIS satisfied with Tax RETURN Transcripts or does it need other things as well e.g. Tax ACCOUNT Transcripts or Tax RECORD transcripts etc.?

Has anyone submitted these before and do they suffice?

Thanks for reading this! :)

Thanks for the reply. That sounds encouraging. I will go back to the IRS office later this week and see if they can give us some more info.

I use this page for 'definitions' -

and I hope the clerk at the desk does , as well.

Good Luck !

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
