N-400 Interview question - proof of marital union

Hi,

My wife's citizenship interview (based on marriage to a US citizen) is coming up and one of the documents they are asking for on the document checklist is 'proof of marital union', which is obviously different than 'proof of marriage' (marriage cert).

Any idea what they are looking for?

We have a 2-year old son, a mortgage and car loan in both our names, joint retirment accounts...etc. Is this considered proof of marital union?

thanks!

Did you submit a copy of your marriage cert with the package? If yes, then most probably what they are asking for is to see an original copy of it.

You can also take, if have you, insurance coverage and 401k plans showing your spouse being the beneficiary...

my suggestion....

Surprised they didn't want those notarized letters of affidavits from friends under penalty of law stating that you are living together like they did for the I-751. Our evidence that we were paying taxes and utility bills together, along with joint ownership, bank accounts, insurance, etc., was identical to what we submitted for the I-751. Didn't want yet another copy of our marriage certificate and our divorce papers for the I-751, but did for the N-400, plus proof of my US citizenship. It is like the I-751 and AOS combined for the N-400, no wonder why my wife saw a 3 1/2" stack of evidence at her interview, same old stuff over and over again.

Birth certificate of your child is very good evidence of your marital union, but they neither want to see you or your child, just your papers. I thought it was crazy, but if you apply for citizenship under the three year marriage privilege, you do it. Wore out my copy machine.
