It shouldn't matter. I made it a point to sign all our forms, or have her sign them, in blue ink, only for the reason that I had read in a few instances where some were given the 3rd degree because the CO could not tell the difference between a photo copy and the original signature in black.

If you had the original and the photo copy the difference should be distinguishable (not sure if that is even a word  ) but in the event there is only one copy some CO who wants to make a bad day for someone could pull this trick.

I just finished putting together Packet 3 this weekend for my fiancee. (Although I need to go back and change some forms.)
It does not say blue or black anywhere in the Embassy web site, nor Packet 3, nor the forms themselves.

this is why I chose a blue ink pen. I had both colors available to me so why take a chance on having an issue that could have easily been avoided. Even if it only happens to one out of a thousand couples I would hate to be the one.

I have heard arguments both ways but... pro blue or black. I agree with using blue for the reason mentioned above... but we only had a black pen so used that!

See profile for our K-1 Visa/AOS story from 2010-2011Apparently we love USCIS/NVC so much we left and are doing it again! This time giving IR-1 a whirl. Rock on immigrators.

07/09/2014 sent in IR-1 packet to Chicago Lockbox
07/16/2014 NOA1
07/17/2014 check cashed by USCIS
10/01/2014 found out we are expecting baby #2 June 2015!
12/15/2014 NOA2
12/30/2014 Case received by NVC
03/23/2015 Received Case and Inv # from NVC after many calls and bogus excuses.
03/24/2015 AOS payment accepted by NVC
04/09/2015 IV payment finally accepted by NVC after the set the wrong fee and took weeks to correct it.
*many more delays thanks to the agency processing my fingers prints to the RCMP and the post office losing our mail*
05/20/2015 Packet sent to NVC via UPS, eta May 28.

06/16/2015 Baby #2 due - homebirth in Scottsdale, AZ

Out of interest, here is the USCIS info on signing: http://www.uscis.gov...00045f3d6a1RCRD

Here is something for H1B petitions that if you search for "blue ink" will show you they prefer blue ink for signing: http://www.uscis.gov...00045f3d6a1RCRD

Blue pen is the best idea in my opinion. Buying a blue pen if you don't have one is also smart. It seems silly to not sign in blue when you read that people have had their cases returned and/or RFE'd looking for "original signatures". Blue pens are cheap and totally worth the $1 or so they might cost. Hell I might even splurge on a nice $4 one!
