Blue or black ink ?

8 posts in this topic Register to Ask a Question

It shouldn't matter. I made it a point to sign all our forms, or have her sign them, in blue ink, only for the reason that I had read in a few instances where some were given the 3rd degree because the CO could not tell the difference between a photo copy and the original signature in black.

If you had the original and the photo copy the difference should be distinguishable (not sure if that is even a word  ) but in the event there is only one copy some CO who wants to make a bad day for someone could pull this trick.

this is why I chose a blue ink pen. I had both colors available to me so why take a chance on having an issue that could have easily been avoided. Even if it only happens to one out of a thousand couples I would hate to be the one.

Out of interest, here is the USCIS info on signing: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=9453d59ae8a8e010VgnVCM1000000ecd190aRCRD&vgnextchannel=fe529c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

Here is something for H1B petitions that if you search for "blue ink" will show you they prefer blue ink for signing: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=bf309b5d82420210VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD&vgnextchannel=68439c7755cb9010VgnVCM10000045f3d6a1RCRD

Blue pen is the best idea in my opinion. Buying a blue pen if you don't have one is also smart. It seems silly to not sign in blue when you read that people have had their cases returned and/or RFE'd looking for "original signatures". Blue pens are cheap and totally worth the $1 or so they might cost. Hell I might even splurge on a nice $4 one!
