For those who had their Canadian Passport photos taken in the US, where did you go to have yours taken?

Any tips, i plan to print out the specifications but would appreciate any tips anyone had to minimize my chances of it being rejected due to bad photos.

Thanks in advance

Hi Infantry Grunt,

I got my Canadian passport photos done at Walmart....

It only cost me $11 USD for 2 photos.

They had a template for such, so no need to mention the specs for that.

Just make sure though, that you say that it's "Canadian", as American specs are different from the American specs. And your photos could be rejected if it is the wrong specs. For more info about photo specs, you can check out the Passport Canada website too.

As well, make sure the photographer signs the back of the photos too and states their studio address, as that is required for Canadian passport photos.

Also, the guarrantor needs to sign the photo too. Makes sure there is enough room for them to sign as well.

Hope this helps. Good luck with your journey too..

Ant

I finally had to go to a PROMAX photo store. Most here in MN refuse to do the Cdn passport picture because so many were being rejected. Apparently they are very picky and a real pain in the butt.

Too much shadow, to much glare...all sorts of issues were causing them to be rejected. The same stores said that the US is no where mear as difficult to deal with.

LPR since 2003 and will be applying for Naturalization soon. Currently working on I-130 for my son.

been told Sears can do them. If ya look in the yellow pages, one can find camera stores that do them Thats what i did, phoned one, and they said no problem. As well you can probably take the specifications to one, and then they have something to go off of.:

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

SEARS! They were trained to do it. However Walgreens has machines in most locations now where you can select the country you want the passport photo done in. Canada, US, UK and a few others are there - so it basically leaves the dumbo taking the picture with few ways to mess it up.

Current Status
July, 2011 - US Citizen

dito on the mom & pop camera store... for here in the US - found one very close by that will do them.

I actually got my photos done in Canada in July when I was home.. they are good for a year and less drama that way.

Cool, now I know I can get my CDN passport photos at AAA. Thanks, guys!

For my child's Canadian Citizenship Card, I had his photos taken at Walgreen's. In the guide at cic.gc.ca, it says babies need not follow the exact specifications. I don't know if that applies to Canadian passports also because I haven't applied for his passport yet, but just thought I'd let you guys know. It was a relief I could go to Walgreen's as I searched high and low and couldn't find a place that could do specifically CDN passport photos. (Like, how difficult is that anyway if you're an experienced photographer?!)
