Good morning everyone

I travelled to London yesterday for my medical.

I took the train to Victoria station and then the 73 bus to Bond Street. From there it was a 5 minute walk to the Knightsbridge Doctors Clinic. I arrived one hour early but they allowed me in to wait.

At the reception window they took my medical questions sheet, passport and passport photograph.

After waiting for about 10 minutes I was handed another sheet to complete. It was similar to the questions sheet with a few more extra questions. However there was nothing that was difficult to answer.

I completed the sheet and after 5 minutes I was taken into a side room and explained what vaccinations I needed. It changes for age and country but mine were:

MMR (Measels Mumps and Rubella)
Tetanus
Flu

The cost of the three was £80.

After the injections I waited anothe 10 minutes before a chest x-ray. Again another short wait before the medical examination itself. The doctor was great, very friendly and thorough.

The examination lasted about 10 or 15 minutes.

At the end I paid at the reception window and was on my way home. The whole thing took about 90 minutes.

The doctor said that there were no problems which was a huge relief.

I did stop off at the US Embassy just to familiarise myself with the queueing system. There were two queues, one for US citizens and the other for visa applicants. There were around 60 people in both queues which were moving quite quickly.

I did chat with a Police Officer who advised me to be there 30 minutes early and also showed me the best parking spaces.

I've seen a couple of people mention checking out the embassy whilst they were at their medical. I think I might consider doing the same - seems a great idea to get a feel for how the system works there, and to figure out where to park the car etc.

Hi everyone

My wife had her medical today. Pretty much the same as mine except she need one less injection! Life is cruel!

Now everything is sent to the US Embassy and our focus is now on the interview, two weeks tomorrow.

I shall keep you all informed!
