Middle initial on Green card

Hey guys,

My wife got her green card a few days ago (yay!!!) but we noticed that they had put her first name, then a middle initial "N" then her last name.

However, the problem is that my wife does NOT have a middle name. The reason there is an "N" there is because in the paperwork where it says to list her middle name we put "none".

anyways, we talked to USCIS about this earlier at our biometrics appointment because on my wife's notices sent from USCIS they also had the "N" for her middle name. They said they'd change it and update it in the system. Well, apparently they haven't and now my wife has a green card with a middle initial for a middle name she doesn't have.

Any ideas on what to do?

Thanks very much guys!

Since it's USCISs fault you can submit a I-90 for free to correct their mistake. Only problem is you have to submit the original GC. Takes awhile to get the corrected one.

If they forgot it's up to them to fix it.

Homeland security makes a big deal when important ID's do not match the foreign passport of a green card or visa holder.

Case in point - one of my co-workers is Ukrainian.

When the Ukraine became an independent state, he had to change ALL of his papers, work ID, etc. to the Ukrainian Cyrillic transliteration

to replace the Russian Cyrillic transliteration that had previously appeared on all of his documents.

The spelling was only slightly different but to the State Department, etc. it was a big deal.

He got the Ukrainian passport to replace the Russian (USSR) passport and the slight variation in spelling caused this.

He only had a work visa, not a green card.

That's a good question Sahara08. Does anyone know the answer?

Also, might be a dumb question, but is it 100% necessary to change this? If it is, we will for sure change it, however if it takes super long to do it that's kind of ridiculous.

So if we do send in the green card, and it does take like 10 months for them to change it and send us a new one, does that mean that technically my wife doesn't have a green card? Or is it the same as her having a green card but she just doesn't physically have it because it's being changed?

Thanks a lot guys!!

I'd just live with it and see if you can get it changed when you remove conditions.

Write in NO MIDDLE NAME!

If they don't correct it then maybe they'll get it on your naturalization cert!!!!

If they don't you'll might end up with NMN for your middle name.

Contact USCIS and be on top of them until you get the required results. It should not cost you because it is their fault.
