One thing I haven't been able to find is eggroll sauce, the kind you'd get in a little ketchup type package. Is it called something else here?

Yes, its duck sauce as somebody else posted. I don't have any idea either why its called that.

Darcy and I go round and round about our language differences. Of course, he says his pronounciation is the correct way.

The roof one for sure.

I say grill he says BBQ.

I say semi (long i) for a truck and he calls that a kind of house. (I encountered that with my friend in Stratford. She said she lived in semi. I said you live in a truck. LOL!) He pronounces the truck as semi (i sounds like a 'e')

The last time he was down here we were at a restaurant. He said something like our service was bloody slow. The guy next to us says your not from around here are you. LOL! :P

I find myself more and more talking like him. I also work for the Canadian branch of my company so I am kinda used to the terminology.

With respect to food, I never did try the Smarties. I don't like the Canadian M&Ms vs. American M&Ms. The chocolate tastes different.

Kyle also says BBQ, while we call it a grill. The semi debate is also true for us.

The funniest difference (and most surprising) was Mazda. Kyle pronounced it Maz-da (with a long a sound) and I thought he was crazy. Here it is pronounced with a short a, closer to Mawz-da. But then I heard a Mazda commercial on TV in Canada. I couldn't believe it! I thought it was hilarious that a name brand would have two different commercials for the different pronunciations.

There are quite a few people who say roof like ruff, but I don't think the majority of the people in this area do. I certainly don't.

HUH , I find that sweet tea is hard to come by here in the States, at least here in the LA area..... I could find it anywhere in Canada

It's everywhere in Texas. I'm from NY and we never had it there. I had to get used to saying "unsweet" whenever I order tea. ;)

It's a Southern thing I guess. Not a fan of it personally. But it's still worlds better than the nasty lemony sweet ####### in the can.

Before reading this thread I had no idea "zed" was a Canadian thing, this past week my Fiance kept telling me to pick from A to Zed, and I kept saying what, and he kept repeating that, so I assumed it was something he came up with.

He also says "Holy" a lot, when he is shocked about something. I don't think I have heard an American say that. Not sure if it is a Canadian thing, or if its just him. Example; "That costs how much? Holy!"

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

Also, this isn't a funny word but - mayo and fries *shudder* ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

I was wondering how many pages it was going to take for this to come oot.

Gravy fries are pretty good too.

It's so hard not to say "zed". I just find "zee" just sounds to close to "c" especially when you're spelling something over the phone. I'm surprised at how much it confuses the heck out of people when I say "zed". I didn't even realize I said it until I moved here.

Agreed. 9 of our 26 letters all end with eeeeee. Removing the confusion from one of them wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing. If I have to spell over the phone, I just use the phonetic alphabet. Much easier.

It's everywhere in Texas. I'm from NY and we never had it there. I had to get used to saying "unsweet" whenever I order tea. ;)

What really irks me is in Cincinnati, we're close enough to the south that sweet tea is available "some" places, but not all. I've long considered crossing the river where it's available all the time.

Artificially sweetened with lemon is absolute #######. I don't know why anyone would put lemon in tea. That's just nasty.

Before reading this thread I had no idea "zed" was a Canadian thing, this past week my Fiance kept telling me to pick from A to Zed, and I kept saying what, and he kept repeating that, so I assumed it was something he came up with.

Many "older" folks in the US say Zed. They also say Opossum. Right around the time we flirted with the metric system we also dropped the O from opossum and ditched the d in Zed.

Best use of Zed ever - "Stop saying that. The Zed word."

Nothing like digging it oot, no man, eh.
