N-400 biometrics appointment...how long???

Instead of posting this message with the "August filers" topic, I decided to post it separate so I can get the response straight here without going through a lot of pages. Anyway, I might just be a little paranoid with regards to the receipt of the biometrics appointment letter.

I sent my application in, the 28th of August and got my NOA September 8, dated 9/2. A friend of mine got her appointment for the fingerprinting 2 weeks ago and she sent hers just a week earlier than mine, if my memory serves me right. We have the same lockbox facility but she's based up north while I'm from down south and be having my interview in Atlanta, GA. I noticed too in the August timelines, some got theirs already. How long does it usually take to get an appointment letter for fingerprinting from the the receipt of the NOA? 1-2 months considered normal or a month, and if I don't still have one, I should start calling???

I registered with CRIS to receive the online status of my application and even called this morning the 1-800 number just to be sure if they had sent me a letter and just accidentally mixed it with my unwanted papers that I burnt :( . That would be awful. Anyway, both updates are the same so I am hoping you guys can help me with this...been worried about it for two weeks now, since the day I learned that my friend got hers and I still haven't.

Thanks a lot for your inputs.

Whoever looked over your application may have elected to use your old fingerprints, thing is, they don't tell you. According to the USCIS, they hang unto your old fingerprints for up to 15 months, but that is not engraved in stone. Did they cash your check? Good sign. When you receive a letter, don't know if it's good or bad news until you open it. Could be a rejection or a RFE, you just wait.

Thanks Leah, I will not try to think about it that much and take a deep breath. And to Nick's question, yes they cashed it Sept. 4, I paid by money order. I hope the letter is coming soon, hopefully not a rejection, I can handle the RFE. I'll let you know guys when I get a letter from them and thanks for responding.

Hi Mom2LilNoah,

According to CRIS, this is what the USCIS says about biometrics (well, this is the message that I got anyways, when my case was under "Initial Review" when I got my NOA): "If you have filed an I-485, I-589, I-751, N-400, I-90, I-821, I-131, I-130 or I-765, you can expect to receive an appointment notice to appear at an Application Support Center to have your fingerprints and/or biometrics taken. The timing of your appointment is determined by the number of applicants ahead of you that also need a biometric appointment. We try to schedule biometric appointments as quickly as possible and in most cases you will receive your appointment notice within 30 days of submitting your application. We will send your appointment notice approximately 14 days ahead of your scheduled appointment. It is important that you keep this appointment. If absolutely necessary, you can request that your appointment be rescheduled however, please be aware that rescheduling may delay the processing of your application. Please follow the instructions on your appointment notice if you need to reschedule."

So on that note, if you haven't received something about the biometrics within 30 days...then by all means, contact the USCIS about this!

In the meantime, wait, and hopefully you'll get something by then....

By the way, don't be surprised if your next update is an "RFE" CRIS update (which is really the "biometrics" letter, according to others on vj).

Likewise, I'm waiting for my biometrics letter too...(and got the rfe update also)

Hope this helps. Good luck on the rest of your immigration journey too.

i sent out my n-400 application and i recieved the reciept and my reciept number does not work .....? i called USCIS and they told me that they need more evidence ? and they sent it out on the 22nd of Sept. do you think this might be the biometrics notice.. for appoitment??????? has anyone experienced this?

Yup  no one really knows when they have this so much energy to make notice earlier and send them right away to recipient. I got the so-called "asking more evidence" email before i got my biometrics .... so I am guessing that made it delayed my biometrics schedule.

I went to biometrics today for walk-in, they questioned me, saying they don't allow that too far early "walk-in" for fingerprints ( like mine 16 days a far) They just recognized the fact that I have an open surgery on Oct. 01, and surely I am still in pain and groggy from all this pain medicines thya will give me after surgery that make me incapacitated to drive 50-60 miles away from my house.

Just keep patient... god bless! (F)

To all respondents:

I checked my e-mail yesterday and received an update from USCIS. It was RFE and I believe it has something to do with my biometrics appointment... keeping my fingers crossed on that. It was mentioned that they sent a letter the 22nd of this month, so I'm hoping it gets here within this week, if not today. Trying not to think about it really works.

Based on what Kathryn posted, it only shows how they're moving at a snail's pace compared to some of the local offices.

After posting this, I am going to ask one of the posters of "July/AUgust" filers to add me in the list of filers. I just can't figure out how to do it without errors, tried twice  still failed.

Have a great week guys...what a cloudy and rainy summer we have here.

:dance::dance: My wait is finally over.:dance::dance:

I got the so-called RFE according to CRIS and turned out to be my biometrics appointment. Wow, it took a month. Notice the dates guys,

August 28 sent my application

September 8 got my NOA

September 28 got my Biometrics appointment

What a coincidence of 8's!!! Must be my lucky number. Anyways, 2 more days and my biometrics could have been October 8, but I'll be having it the 6th. It doesn't really matter. I just want to get the worry off my mind.

And one thing too, I've read from a different thread here that dates between CRIS's and actual letter vary, mine is too.

Getting excited here. Next step please....(no just kidding)

Thanks everybody for helping me condition my mind to patiently wait. Good luck to all of us Amrican citizen candidates.

UPDATE....

I walked-in 30 minutes earlier than my supposed schedule for my fingerprinting and they let me go ahead and had it done. Everything went smooth for 15 minutes while I was in the office. The lady who took care of me got friendly with me when she noticed "how pretty", she said, my wedding ring is.

Anyway, when I got to my sister-in-law's car, who was with me to watch my son while I was doing the biometrics, I decided to ask her to take a photo of me for purposes of documentation. Guess what happend? The security who was friendly with me when I was in the office, turned different (eyes got red and huge) telling us that we could be in jail for trying to take a pic of the place with you know, just the name ASC outside their office. Is that not ridiculous to be incarcerated for merely taking a photo of yourself with their office background? In my opinion, they should have posted on their door that taking pictures is prohibited for public awareness, had I known, I surely would be so obedient to follow their rules. Is that a question of ignorance of the law on my part :( ...excuses no one?

What do you think guys about this incident, is this an issue that everybody should know not to do? Has it something to do with terrorism?

I'd appreciate your opinion on this.

this is just a post-script...I read one of the recent posts earlier that a pic was taken during biometrics. As far as I can remember when I had my fingerprinting, I don't remember having my pic taken. Unlike the last time before this recent one, they took a picture. The fact is, I was sitting in front of a camera but that lady did not even ask me to look at it and therefore no flash of light came out. I am not sure, not unless the lady took it without telling me, or it automatically takes a photo. What do u guys think of this??? Anxiously waiting for your reply/ies :( .

The photos that you submitted with your N400 app are the ones used by USCIS, one of those photos submitted will be on your Nat Cert. They don't need to take another digital pic of you at biometrics, they just need your fingerprints to run security check etc. so everything was normal at your appointment (F)

That was quick!!! I was about to edit this part of the message, "As far as I can remember when I had my fingerprinting, I don't remember having my pic taken" because of redundancy, then I was told that I can't edit it. Oh well, thanks for clearing the worries in me.

The photos that you submitted with your N400 app are the ones used by USCIS, one of those photos submitted will be on your Nat Cert. They don't need to take another digital pic of you at biometrics, they just need your fingerprints to run security check etc. so everything was normal at your appointment (F)
