Hello

We went to district magistrate office and they told us that they will issue the character certificate ( which is issued after police clearance though). But requirement for visa is PCC I believe. Is Police Clearance Certificate issued by the passport office?. Or is character certificate ok. Any idea how much time it might can take ?

A police clearance certificate (PCC) or background check is required from your local districts police department in all the cities you've lived since you were age 16 to present.

You will need to submit your passport to your local passport office in charge of your locality and they will do their own background check on you and if everything comes back OK, then they issue you their PCC.

Good luck to you!

The Character Certificate should suffice as you wouldn't get it if you didn't pass the background check. smile.gif

Sorry...I keep thinking of more to say.

Also, it can take several weeks for you to get your PCC from the Passport Office, so get started on this at least after you've received your NOA2. It's been almost 2 months and my fiance still hasn't received his passport back yet, though the Passport in Ghaziabad shows on their website that the passport and background check has been recieved and will be dispatched by Sept. 28th, 2009.

The Embassy consider's the PCC to be valid for up to one full year, so even if you started now, it would be OK. smile.gif

Take care.
