OOps, just read this one!!!

I already have my NBI clearance for Travel/Abroad purposes(according to the Phil setting instruction) issued on May,2009. What blown me away is learning from a VJ filer that it should be for Immigration purposes.(she has a point tho) In this regard,I would like know the views of those who have NBI clearance for Travel/Abroad purposes:, maintained as it is, sent it and yet successfully passed the interview,,,later got approved. Hey guys,Please help! thank you...To be honest ,my mind is set heading to the NBI office later on. Right now 5:50 a.m. here  Adrenaline rush eh!

Travel/Abroad purposes is fine but you should have told them that you are going to US because going to US have different NBI Clearance color ( it should be "travel to US" in the clearance too) compared to going to other countries and for employment purposes.

I have the green form which applies outside the country. The officers ive asked before said that theyve issued same thing with the past immigrant applicants.Yet, No one came back to recorrect it. So i was calmed, assured that time. But right now, categorically , I must say ,my NBI purpose might be in question..wheeww!!! Gee thanks! Im so allergic to RFE ya know

Hi ChuckandRhean,

To validate my reply on your post, I did some digging from the old posts here in vj and i found out that some had "For Travel Abroad" purpose in their NBI Clearance and i think they passed. I just want to tell you too that I took my NBI Clearance in Cebu last February and I wrote for travel abroad first but when the guy at the window before the payment window checked it, he asked me to specify what country. He explained to me that "For Travel Abroad" purposes is only for countries like Dubai, Qatar etc, US is excluded. NBI Clearance for US must have a "Travel To US" in it. If I'm not wrong, i think they both have the same paper color (this is to correct my first reply).

My NBI clearance has "Travel to the US" as purpose as advised by other VJ members. I do have a follow-up question, I have only lived in one city and I was told I need not get police clearance as the NBI clearance is good enough. how true?

thanks!

That's correct!

You will only need a police clearance if you stayed in another country for more than 6 months.

I think it's true because one of the requirements in getting NBI clearance is police clearance. So...once you have the NBI clearance it means that you have the police clearance.

This is the exact quote taken from the US Embassy Manila website.

4. NBI CLEARANCE: Applicants aged 16 years and older must have a valid Record Clearance for Travel Abroad Purposes from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Clearances should be in the applicant’s current name, birth certificate name, maiden name, married name, and any aliases or nicknames ever used, including different spellings of all names ever used. An official letter of explanation from the NBI is required for any notation of “No criminal record”, "No pending criminal case” or “With derogatory record.” NBI is located along Taft Avenue in Manila. You may contact NBI at (632) 523-82-31 to 38. For immigration purposes, an NBI clearance is considered valid only for one year from the date it is issued.

So having travel for US is not a requirement.
