Was your first petition denied? why have you filed 2?
Living with your SO during the process is a nice option if you can do it.
BUT, after the approval (before the interview), you will need to come back to set up residence or if you stay there for the interview...show(strongly) that you are ready to move back here. They will not issue a visa without evidence that there is intent to immigrate (residence set up,jobs ect)
I hope that answers some of your questions.

Timeline: 13 month long journey from filing to visa in hand
If you were lucky and got an approval and reunion with your loved one rather quickly; Please refrain from telling people who waited 6+ months just to get out of a service center to "chill out" or to "stop whining" It's insensitive, and unecessary. Once you walk a mile in their shoes you will understand and be heard.
Thanks!
