Would like to ask if anyone tried sending vitamins to Philippines using USPS.

I'm thinking of using it USPS flat rate priority mail.

I send important documents to the philippines before, using USPS flat rate priority mail and it arrived within 6 days for less than 5 dollars.

Now, for boxes with weight not greater than 20 lbs, price range is from USD 41.95 - 53.95. I find this a good deal.

If anyone tried this, how was it?

I've done this before and had no problems. I find the USPS to be a good cheap alternative. It is not fast, but it gets there. If you are sending to Manila, it should be there in 10 days or so unless customs plays games. If out of the manila area, more like 2 weeks or so.

But my last package go seriously slowed because Philippine Airlines refused to carry it because "it contained liquids" (body lotion). Totally bogus and did not happen in the past. It looks like it will end up taking about 6 weeks as a result. This is *totally* bogus, but you can avoid it.

For not much more, $65 by LBC from California, a little more eslewhere, you can send a 18 x 18 x 12 inch box with as much stuff as will fit. Sending packages through the mail has to go through customs, and sometimes get "lost". Also, sometimes they have to pay a duty on the stuff, if the package hasn't been ransacked first.

I have had problems twice getting things stolen in the mail there!!!

May I ask if it matters which carrier service is used?

I would also like to send my honey a box but am nervous about things getting stolen from it...

Thank you for any help!

James

Use a balikbayan box service. It's rather slow but there is no weight limit and the box is 20" x 20".

Vitamins in bulk like Kirkland and Member's are also available in grey markets in the Philippines. Price differential is not much. Less hassle for me. :)

I would also buy from the Philippines if it Kirkland or GNC. I bought a brand of vitamins here in AZ that my mom really prefer. Unfortunately, the manufacturer is AZ base, nothing as big as Kirkland.

Everything Ive ever sent usps that has a value more than a dollar is stolen by Philippine postal workers!!!!!!!!!!!!

Did you send it by regular mail? This is a big no-no!

Use express mail... I didn't have problem. In fact, the Postal guy let me off the hook without paying for duties on the jewelry that my husband sent me.

In Cash and Carry Makati, there's a store there that sells kirkland for cheaper price.

That is strange, I have sent 4 packages to my wife now over about an 8 month period, the most recent containing about 500.00 worth of clothes, shoes, and jewelry, and I have never once had anything not arrive intact. Then again, the first three times I sent it via USPS priority mail, and the last time, I used USPS Global Express because of the value of the items, I wanted it insured.

But yeah, no problems at all, and it arrived there in 6 days.

I have sent many packages to my wife when she was still in the Philippines before she got here and always have used USPS and never had any lost or anything stolen out of them. Most took 10 days to arrive from USA to Mindanao. We recently sent a large package to her Mother and family weighing 20 pounds 6 ounces and it took 13 days to arrive. That is counting Saturdays and Sundays. It is expensive but last I checked FEDEX and UPS are more expensive. There is no LBC in the state we live in so I can not compare price to it. One thing is with UPS sending a package you can only track it in the USPS system to the point it leaves the USA. I ahve sent documents to my wife by FEDEX and they took an average of 3 to 4 days to get in her hands.

A Filipino friend of mine recently recommended "Manila Forwarder" (http://www.manilaforwarder.com/) to send packages to the Philippines. I have not used them yet myself, but I intend to do so very soon. I'm led to believe that they do door-to-door delivery (like Fed Ex), but is significantly cheaper and your package will not be by opened/molested/raided by the pirates who run the Philippine post offices (rummaging through parcels to take anything that looks valuable like "Newman" from Seinfeld  ) the way it would be if you used regular mail.

For more details: http://www.manilaforwarder.com/stage_planning.html

I hope this helps.
