Hi I did mine in NJ , took 6 months and a few days total... Filed in Feb 15 2007, my interview and oath was on August 31 2007.

Don't remember when they sent me correspondece for biometrics and interview date.

Timeline

If I were you, I wouldn't apply in February quite yet. Of course you can postpone the interview date. But sometimes you get a new appointment only a couple of weeks later. And since you're planning on being out of the country for two months, you might have to postpone again. I don't know how well that goes. I checked the timelines for Florida and the latest one I found took only four months between filing and interview. That would put you in line for the interview end of June if you file end of February. Of course one can never say for sure what's going to happen, each case is individual. I think, if I were you, I would file end of April, do biometrics in May and then, hopefully, do the interview in August. Or, if you want to be on the safe side, file after you return from your home country. Do you have somebody who can check your mail, just in case you receive the interview letter while you're out of the country? You have to make sure that you let them know in case you can't keep the appointment.

If I were you, I may file N400 after your trip.

If you file it on Feb, it may add complexity for your situation.

For an example, if your case is processed soon enough to have oath ceremony around your travel time, you can not leave the country until you have US passport in your hands.

Or if it is slow enough to put your interview and/or oath ceremony around your planned trip period, it's going to cause additional headache and delay for your N400 process.

one or two weeks travel may not be a problem.

But a couple of month travel plan may be not a good idea during N400 process.

Usually you have your biometrics appointment a month after you filed for citizenship. If you file end of this month, you should have your biometrics done end of March/beginning of April. As I said, there is a chance that you might have your interview in June/July if you file now. And once you took the oath, you MUST travel with a US passport.

Did you check the link to the timelines I posted?

Last one who posted there, filed in November 2008 and had his interview this month. So, do the math.

EDIT: He/she filed in October 2008. Sorry

I just checked the Miami thread in another immigration forum. Seems like processing times really have sped up in Miami since last year. There are two posters who have filed in October 2008. One has his interview scheduled in February 2009 and the other one in March 2009.

Remember that USCIS clock may not working as you expected.

In most case, it is working on their own schedule.

If somebody got N400 done in 6 months, it doesn't mean you will be same.

Per U.S. law, US Citizen should use U.S. Passport when he/she leave/enter U.S. territories.

That means from the day of oath taken, you have to use U.S. Passport for in/out from U.S.

Hi Cookiee!

I collect the stats for the September-January filers. There's one filer from Tampa that has the following timeline:

Application Sent: 12/2/08

NOA Received: 12/16/08 (14 days)

Biometrics taken: 1/3/09 (32 days)

Interview Scheduled: 4/1/09 (120 days)

Hope that helps you out a little.

Cheers,

Goran

You won't have biometrics again.

They expire after 15 months and you took them in August 08, so unless your case goes beyond November 09, no need for new biometrics.
