Long story - short
My wife is stuck right now in Manila. Tuesday is the interview and she can't get back until Tuesday after the time of the interview.
I plan on calling tomorrow to try to change it but I wanted to know what to prepare for.
any suggestions ?

A similar plight arose with a friend of mine, and they rescheduled it for about three weeks later. So go ahead and call. The obvious question is why did she stay in the Phils so long?

You need to go to the office and explain what has happened. others that have missed their interview have ended up with a denial so do not just phone the 1-800 number you need to talk to the office she is having her interview at.

Is there no way of her getting a flight before tuesday.

In my friend's case three months ago, getting to the office was impossible as it was seven hours away and required an overnight stay. The one who had planned to drive them backed out at the last minute.

Your friends were very lucky. If you do a search on VJ for people who have tried to reschedule their AOS interview you will find that the majority have ended up getting their case denied for failing to turn-up for the interview, even after they called the 1-800 line. It has then taken them many moths and many $$$ to get cases reopened and the legal advice they have needed to sort it all out.

As far as USCIS is concerned they give you advance notice of the interview date and it is only life or death situations that they will accommodate with a new interview date. I dont think that a trip home and not getting a flight rescheduled is going to be classed as a life or death situation. But I could be wrong, I hope so for their sake.

Oh Wow she missed her flight... I would be trying all airlines and all routes even if she had to change 4 -5 times and cost $$$ anything to get her back before the interview.

Let's just hope that the USCIS will reschedule. Was there a good reason she waited until just before the interview to return--and a good reason she missed her flight? USCIS is entitled to ask.

If she can't get to the interview you need to go and attend, and wait to be called, Then when you are called, explain your situation! Do not assume that they will get the message from the 1800 number.

I agree, you should go to the interview and explain. I have heard bad stories about the 800 number. They are just customer service and dont really know what they are doing. I would not trust them and when a case is closed 9 times out of 10 they never open it again. Your best chance is to go talk with someone. Think about it, your interview appointment is going to be your only chance to talk to someone face to face. Goodluck, ShaSha and I have her AOS interview at 9:30am Monday.

Absolutely go to the interview! ! ! You should also call and try to re-schedule, but the communciation between USCIS departments and locations is not reliable. Go to the interview and explaine what happen and work with that office to reschedule. Do not take a chance. For my wife's AOS interview, USCIS actually sent a cancellation notice to her in the mail. We ignored this cancellation and went to the interview anyway. It was a 2 hour drive. They local office did not know about any cancellation. We had the interview and they expeced us to come to the interview, no cancellation.

Good luck,

Devereux

ok i called today and was told no problem but they had to talk to my wife (she can't be reached). I was advised to go to the interview and tell them what happened. She said it should not be a problem.

I am adding to this thread because we were worrying about something similar.
My husband will be redeploying to Iraq in the next months so he will not be here when (if) we are called in for the interview.
Do you all recommend I just go to the interview by myself and explain also?
Is it possible to call/write directly to the local USCIS offices where the interview will take place or does everything go through that 1-800 line?
Many thanks for your feedback.

I called my congressman today and explained what happened.
He advised me to write USCIS a letter explaining to them what happened and ask for rescheduling. They seemed to think it was not a big deal or problem.
He said I did not need to go to the interview but i am going to go anyway just in case
