on complaint .. NTV America sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!! they dont even show remotely the same shows as NTV russia and never the same specials.. especially when I want to watch one ... grrrrrrrrr

Do you have a link or web address? I have cable, and dish is the only way to get this stuff on tv here. One package only, with three Russian and one Ukrainian channel. I appreciate the help.

Nothing beats Channel 1.

That's exactly how it's called. It's Russian Channel 1. It's one of the most popular channels in Russia as well. I have it through my cablevision, and it's only $14.95 per month. THE BEST!!!!

All the time they have concerts, movies, shows.......always very entertaining!!!!

They actually have the same program as in Russia. Except whatever they show the show/movie/concert there for example at 3pm in Russia, they will show the same thing in USA but at 3pm by NY time. No other Russian channel can compare to it. My parents have about 5 different channels but they usually watch only Russian Channel 1 since there is always something going on. There is also a Russian channel called "Russia" in Russia but I don't think we have it here yet in America.

I've spent about 10 years searching for and watching Russian TV channels online with mixed results. I would find a site that works fine... but within a month or two the connection quality would begin to deteriorate or disappear completely.

By FAR the best site I've found is www.worldstreamtv.com . The site has been up for about 2 years now that I'm aware of. Subscribers have access to a large number of radio stations online. As for TV, there are 20 channels available online, including Channel One, RTR, CTC, TNT, NTV, and Vesti. You can watch live streams of programs from these channels, or you can time-shift entire streams a certain number of hours, or you can record specific programs for viewing at your convenience, and many of the more popular programs are automatically recorded and available as Video-on-Demand. If you have a high-speed internet connection, the quality is just like watching TV. They have a number of test links which will allow you to check out the service and quality against your particular internet connection speed.

A monthly subscription of $10 allows you to watch live or time-shifted streams. An additional $6 a month also gives you the TV recorder and free access to the Video-on-Demand. You can cancel the service at any time and you keep access through the end of the month in which you cancel. A number of our Russian friends here in America will subscribe in December and January to get access to all of the New Year's programs and then cancel their service because they simply don't have time to watch so much TV.

Verizon FiOS has Russian channels as well, including the aforementioned NTV and Channel 1.

Thanks all for the advice. I signed Vika up for utv on worldstream for a month to try it out. She has been watching a lot today, and was very excited to have it. Do you have any recommendations to order books or magazines over the web?

When we lived in Russia I had no choice but to watch only Russian TV but it was a major help in learning Russian. Hubby doesn't like to watch American TV because it's hard to understand the slang and the fast pace, but he's just going to have to tough it out because our cable company doesn't offer Russian channels.

Russian-language magazine subscriptions are insanely expensive to get over here. If anyone's got an alternative, I'd like to hear it too.

I have cable, phone, and HS online through the cable company. I am trying at all costs to avoid sattelite service if I can.
