Sometimes it's just unfair to think of the fact that because the Philippines is a high risk country of this disease, everyone who had been confirmed with positive PPD had been exposed with someone with active TB. Even though nobody in the family has the disease nor any pulmonary infections. It's just like saying Philippines is not safe. What if the reading has been bias? How about if
a positive reaction requires 15mm or more of hard swelling at the site and the person has no known risk of the disease? Since you got 13 mm and you came from the Philippines, then your positive?!
Now I am more thankful of this another test... the QuantiFeron test because of the following advantages :
* Requires a single patient visit to draw a blood sample.
* Results can be available within 24 hours.
* Does not boost responses measured by subsequent tests, which can happen with tuberculin skin tests (TST).
*
Is not subject to reader bias that can occur with TST. * Is not affected by prior BCG (bacille Calmette-Guérin) vaccination.
Although this test has just been started this has been approved way back 2005.
What is it?
The QuantiFERON®-TB Gold test (QFT-G) is a whole-blood test for use as an aid in diagnosing Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, including latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) and tuberculosis (TB) disease. This test was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2005.
QuantiFeron testWhatever it is I am very happy that I AM NEGATIVE!!!
Thank GOD!
