You really need to read the guides at the top of the forums.

Where did you send the petition? Vermont of California? That is your service centre.

It does take around 4-5 months for approval, and then a bit longer once you get the packet and prepare for interview. Expect 6-10 months in total, depending on your circumstances.

The date your petition is received by the uscis service center for your jurisdiction (vermont service center aka vsc or california service center csc) is know as your noa1 (notice of action1). This means that your petition has been received and is waiting in line to be processed. It usually takes less than 2 weeks to receive the NOA1 however it took us 33 days.

So after you have received the receipt notice NOA1 you are now waiting for the approval which is the NOA2 (notice of action 2). During this time you could receive what is known as an RFE (request for further evidence). This is issued when your petition is lacking necessary information or is missing something. The RFE can be issued at anytime between the NOA1-NOA2 it is not time specific and often is issued when the adjudicator is pulling your petition to be approved. If you do receive an RFE remember that it is very important to return the requested information ASAP because your case will not be processed until the requested information is received.

A good safe conservative average time to receive the NOA2 is about 4-5 months for the VSC or 4-6 months for the CSC, but it can come much sooner or later in rarer cases. To see how long it has taken others, check out their timelines here http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/k1list...?cfl=&op3=1

Remember that it is very important to update your timeline with accurate information each time you receive something from uscis because all of the time estimates listed here on VJ depends on our time line data. Your time line can be updated here under the "time lines function" header http://www.visajourney.com/timeline/

To check current estimates go to http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...&page=times

You can also check Igors list for hourly updated approvals from VJ members here http://cse.ssl.berkeley.edu/igor/vjdata/vsc.aspx

I hope this helps and best of luck to you.

Mike
