Our Story

  1. Hello, I recently started prepping paperwork to help my mom renew her tourist visa and noticed the old visa she has is a stamp on her old passport that reads: "Mexican Border Crossing Identification Card and B1/B2 Nonimmigrant Visa" ID: BEARER(S) Valid indefinitely for multiple applications for admission to the United States as a temporary visitor for business or pleasure" this was given to her in 1988 and I have a couple questions: - Is this still valid to use for travel to the US (bringing old expired passport with non-expired visa and new valid passport) - Do we need to "renew" even though it has technically never expired? - Are there any specific steps or forms to get this exact visa on her new passport? Thank you for your help!
  2. We've applied for the I-130 on August 1st 2022. I just found out that our service center is not what was on the confirmation paper that they sent out but is actually the Vermont Service Center. We were basing our timelines on the Nebraska Service Center and now have had to change gears to the Vermont timelines. I graduate college in Spring of 2024 and would really like my husband to be there to see me walk and be able to spend some time with my family in the U.S. celebrating my achievement. Based on the timelines here and from what I've seen on Reddit, we probably won't have his visa ready to go by the time I graduate, or it will be very close. So now my question, is it possible to apply for a tourist visa for him to come to the U.S. for a couple of months WHILE the I-130 is processing? Would he even be approved at the time of the B2 visa interview? Would the embassy officials think it's suspicious and that he's going to overstay the B2 visa? Has anyone else applied for a tourist visa and gone to visit while the I-130 was processing?
  3. Hello, the love of my life overstayed her ESTA visa for 4 days; so stayed in the usa for a total of 94 days. Will she be able to apply for a tourist visa in a few months? Will it be approved? Any tips will be greatly appreciated.
  4. Hi. I would like to ask if anyone here knows if it is possible that i can work on a cruise ship, having my working bisa okay while my tourist visa is revoked. Cause ive already signed a contract to work on a cruise ship, but i was denied due to mya revoked visa, which some says that working visa is different from a tourist visa. Am i still able to work abroad?
  5. Hello, hoping some of you can provide me some insight on a question I have. My girlfriend (thailand, non citizen) and myself (USC) are planning on getting married sometime this year and filing an I-130 to start the process of moving her to the USA. Originally, we are planning on getting married this April in Thailand (I will be visiting her). She is planning to visit the United States this June for family wedding/visit friends and myself. My question is, would she have issue entering the USA with her tourist visa if we wed in Thailand. I wasn’t planning on filing the I-130 until she finishes her visit. another question, am I allowed to file a I-130 when she is visiting to jump start the process or wait until she leaves. any advice is appreciated!
  6. Hi, Did you appeared for FPGEE & NAPLEX. For which visa you applied for? I am a Pharm D graduate from India.I am also preparing for FPGEE and TOEFL.Now FPGEE is held once a year, and I need to sit for TOEFL within USA. For which US visa should I apply for.
  7. My fiancé lives in Brazil and we filed for the K-1 visa in March 2022. At the time, I was hopeful that the application would be accepted by December or January but the expected wait continues to increase. I feel like it’s way too late to try marrying and applying for the spousal visa so all we can do is wait. I haven’t seen her in person for 6 months but I have a trip planned for January. We are really hoping we don’t have to be apart for 6+ months again next year. Now to my question, should we even bother trying to apply for a tourist visa for her to come here while I’m working? I’ve heard that application also takes 1+ years and it can be very difficult for a Brazilian without a great job or lots of assets to receive one. We’ve even met in Cancun one time but she’s never visited the US during out two year relationship. It feels like there’s nothing we can do but wait and it’s becoming more and more difficult. Does anyone have any suggestions for her to come here while we wait for the K-1 visa?
  8. Hello, I have enter USA on tourist visa (B1\B2) in 2014 (Valid till 2024) and did status change to student visa (F1) got approved (No stamp on passport) inland I was in USA till 2018 on Student visa (F1). Then I moved to Canada (in 2018) got married to Canadian citizen. Currently having Indian citizenship and Canadian PR. The question is these November 2022 my wife's cousin getting married in USA and they have invited us for wedding can I still re enter USA on tourist visa (B1\B2 as its valid till 2024) or I need to re apply for new tourist visa because of change of status inland to student (F1) and not having stamp on passport before leaving USA? If yes tourist visa (B1\B2) stamped on passport still valid, Speaking practically will the immigration officer will let me enter the USA or not as I previously enter USA on same status (B2) and change of mind to student (F1) he/she can deport me and bard me from re entering? (I will have my wife (Canadian citizen) traveling with me and will have return ticket for both of us) Thank you.
  9. Hello! So my brother, when he was a teenager, tried to cross the Tijuana border with my cousins, but he left his Mexican passport/visa at my aunt's home (he was visiting from central Mexico), and they were already in line to cross. My cousins thought he could just say he was a US citizen, and he got caught. Every time he needs to renew his visa is so much trouble but he gets it, but this time they told him he qualifies for a pardon. What is the form we need to fill out or where do we start? Thank you so much for your help!! :)
  10. Hello all, I filled out my DS-160 application for a B1/B2 visa in August 2021. I booked an interview appointment at the time for October 2022, at my country of citizenship. In June 2022 I became a Canadian PR, moved to Canada and have been living there since then. In October, I will be travelling to my home country for the US tourist visa interview. There is a question in the DS-160 about being a permanent resident of other countries which at the time of filing (August 2021) I was not. I currently live and work in Canada, but I also have a job in my home country. I have bank accounts in Canada, the US and home country as well. Is it recommended that I fill out a new DS-160 form with my new status as Canadian PR and use it for the interview? Is it still okay that I attend this appointment in my home country? (I believe so, my passport is from that country, but just would like to confirm). Thank you for your time!
  11. The visa officer did ask me this: “why you don’t have citizenship yet you been married for so long” (9 years) I said I already applied for an immigrant visa and we are working on it and she just said ok approved. hope this gives to people who want to visit while working on their immigrant visas.
  12. Hello, I was able to get my wife a tourist visa shortly after the war started in Ukraine ( she's Ukrainian) and when we entered the Port of Entry the officer said we had 6 months to figure out her paperwork to adjust her status. Well I spoke with a lawyer who will proofread all our documents but I haven't been able to pay yet and start the process so she can have work permission and travel authorization. My question is, we have been taking trips flying within usa during this time and she uses passport as I.D. , can she still travel within USA on an expired Visa? Does Tsa look into that and call immigrations or can we still fly before we submit paperwork to adjust status??
  13. Does anyone know what the situation is for non immigrant visas at the Embassy in Bangkok? Are they processing and interviewing for these, is there a long wait, etc? We're trying to see if my in-laws can apply and interview for a tourist visa in Thailand since the embassy local to them (Myanmar) is closed to all non-immigrant appointments due to political issues in the country. My in-laws have a local agent that they've used in the past when filing for a visa, and the agent is stating both that an appointment would take months to get (certainly believable in the current situation) and that the embassy is denying all applications right now. Just wondering if anyone has any other insight. I'm getting the impression their agent is just discouraging them from pursuing a visa and leaving them in limbo. I'm wondering if we could just handle the application process for them. We'd like them to visit as soon as possible as we had a baby last year that they've yet to meet so I'd rather to get more hands on if there's a chance they can visit any time soon.
  14. VJ members, I'm gearing up to apply for my parent's tourist VISA and this community always has been super helpful. I had some very basic questions. 1. On DS-160 form, Is it okay If I fill out in English? My parents do not speak English but i assume they will provide translator in embassy on their interview. 2. Does US Embassy in Nepal even take any financial documents from me or my parents? I heard from my friends and people I know, they don't let pass any documents inside the embassy and solely based on interview. Could anyone please enlighten me? 3. After I fill out DS-160, how does scheduling interview works? Do they put them in backlog or Do I have to manually hunt to got interview dates?
  15. Say, Dmitri has come to the U.S. with the tourist (B1/B2) visa (which was issued to him for 3 years). Then, while being in the U.S. he applied for asylum. Later while his B1/B2 stay was still valid (less than 6month after arrival) he received a denial of asylum. The question is: After asylum denial, what happens with his B1/B2 Visa? Variants: 1)Nothing: he may safely leave the U.S. and then later, let“s say in half a year, visit the U.S. again? or 2) B1/B2 visa will be automatically cancelled, so that Dmitri will not have a chance to visit the U.S. with this visa (and probably will have a hard time getting a new one in future)? 3) Or some other variant is possible? I highly appreciate your help.
  16. Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well. So the other day I got an RFE for my AOS application and I see 2 points. In the first point they are asking for evidence of the joint sponsor status that I had already included (Copy of Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card) but I think they may have lost the copy. So I understand that maybe you need to send the copy again, right? and the second point is where I get lost, they said " and then but I already have a joint sponsor, why do you want to determine if my wife is qualified? What do they mean or should I do? i need to send evidence, so they could determine my wife is not qualified?. or i send again the whole i-864 with de supportive documents for my wife? ps: i upload the RFE
  17. Hi all, My husband is from Russia. His mom got a tourist visa last year right before everything shut down due to covid. However, we realized that her name is spelled “Irinia” in her visa, and not “Irina.” 1. Will she have to get a new visa/fix the spelling? Or will she be able to travel here with that visa? The biggest problem is that everything in Russia shut down…and then the consulates closed. The embassy in Moscow is running on a VERY limited basis. I don’t think they’ll fix the spelling error. if anybody has any advice or experience with something like this, please advise!
  18. So a month ago I applied for a B2 visa to go on vacation to the states. The first time I applied with everything truthfully, stating that I have been arrested once before for petty theft, but I also mentioned I was unemployed(on the application form). I got the 214(b) refusal and said by the CO that I can apply again. The second time I applied again was a week later. With the same answers about my background and employment state. I mentioned to the OC when asked”what do you do for work?” I mentioned I work as a waitress but decided to take a break and go on vacation using my savings to pay for the 1 week trip. I got refused again with 214(b). So I would like to know was it mainly because I was unemployed or because of my small arrest ?
  19. Hi, my mother in law is a british citizen and qualify under ESTA but my wife and I would like her to stay longer for 6 months. My father in law on the on the other hand needs a visa to enter. They both live in the UK and my father in law is a permanent resident. They are both retired and look after their grandkids in the UK. Will it be difficult them to get a visa? What are the requirements since they not working?
  20. Hey everyone, just as the title says. My wife wants to apply for a tourist visa for her mom to visit us here, since it would work out better for a longer visit than to have my wife visit her on Brazil for only 2 weeks due to work. Anyways, my question is, does my wife only have to submit a DS-160 application for her mom, or is there anything else she has to do?? Provide evidence of some sort, proof of airline receipt? Etc. Sorry if this has already been covered in the forum already, much help needed though, thank you!
  21. So both of my parents are coming to visit us to the California( both of them have tourist visa ), but my Mon recently had to update her Peruvian passport. The problem is that on her new passport she appears with her married last name, and on her visa passport- the older one not valid for Peru anymore – she appears with her singles last name. Could this miss match generate a problem in immigration will trying to get in? I would think this happens a lot with married women, so probably this could be good as immigration official could know how to deal with this, but I just want to double check this because my brother is having a baby and I wouldn't want them to miss this. Regards, Richie
  22. Hi everyone, do you have updates for DS260 for upload button and can’t submit the Sign and submit button? Thank you in advance
  23. My fiancée and I are currently waiting on Ciudad Juarez to reschedule her K1 visa interview (originally scheduled for August 2020 before being cancelled). In the meantime, she is going to come visit me on a tourist visa. Her previous B2 visa expired fall 2020. She has a renewal interview waiver but still has to bring her paperwork to the ASC in Merida at the end of this month. My question is: does anyone know how long it is taking embassies in Mexico (or specifically Merida) to process and deliver the B1/B2 visas from renewal interview waived applications after the embassy has the paperwork? From what I have read in the past it is usually only a few weeks but I don't know if that it still true given the unusual times we are living in. An information would be great!
  24. Hi, I really need help. My partner and I have consulted with 2 lawyers already, but they are saying different things. Just a background story, I have worked in the US on my tourist visa in the past and a month ago I got detained at LAX airport for 4 days. I was honest with them that I have worked in the past and that I have a boyfriend in the US for 3 years. They gave me a choice of withdrawing my visa (not banned) for me to be able to apply a visa again.. Although, my worry is not being able to apply again even though they said I can. I want to know the chances of us getting approved for Fiance or Spouse visa in case we apply, the timeline, and what kind of waiver do we exactly need and how long does that take as well. We have been doing our research, but there are a lot of waivers and I'm not sure which one is the best to use if ever we might need one. We've been apart for more than a year and the clock is ticking for Fiance Visa 2-year window. I really want to be together with my partner already and I want to believe that we can be together again. It will also be helpful if there are lawyers out there who are experienced with this case. Thank you for your help!
