  1. I have a unique situation- 7 years ago, I was married and changed my name (let's just say it went from Brown to Jones, Brown being my maiden name and Jones being my married name). When I got divorced two years ago, I never changed my name back to "Brown" and I ended up meeting my now-fiancee very shortly after my divorce (~5 months after). We knew immediately that we wanted to get married so we started the i-129f paperwork with my divorced name of "Jones." Long story short, on her issued visa, it now says "Petitioner is ___ Jones," not "Brown." I hate my married/divorced last name but was too afraid to change it this whole time thinking it would cause problems with the submitted documents. My question is, now that the visa is stamped and approved, can I "change" my name back to the maiden name of "Brown" before I get married to my now-fiancee? Or will that cause issues since her passport/visa says my divorced name and not my maiden name? Or will it not be a problem since USCIS is already aware since I listed both names on all of the paperwork? I am honestly not even sure who to talk to in regards to this so I am posting here, hoping someone has some feedback or has had a similar situation.
  2. Hi All, I had an interview back in October 2022 and it went well (approved). I should have waited but did a name change request there. The officer told me I'd need to go to court for the oath change and he set up all for me. And also he mentions that if I do not hear back within 3 months, I'd need to contact USCIS because it is out of normal processing time. Does anyone have similar experience? Anyone requested a name change in 2022 and still waiting? or approved?
  3. Hi everyone I filed an i130 on 04/21/2022 for my wife in the Philippines. I am the petitioner and am a USC. We are still awaiting approval for the i130 and my wife wants to change her name on her Philippine passport to my last name since the process is easier while she’s still there in the Philippines as opposed to doing it here in the States. I filed the i130 with her current last name (her father’s last name). Her current last name is on the marriage certificate and her birth certificate. What steps do I need to take to make sure there’s no confusion with her name moving forward in the immigration process? We will file for a CR1 visa upon approval of the i130. PLEASE Help!!
  4. Hello, So my fiancé and I are in the process of getting our K-1 visa. We have an approval estimate of December 2021. I am British and my fiancé is American. As soon as I have the visa in my passport, I plan to go over there and get married as soon as possible. I want to take the last name of my future husband and was wondering how the name change affects the whole chain of status once I am over there? Has anyone from the UK done this and how did you do it? Any tips etc would be greatly appreciated! My passport and fiancé visa will be in my maiden name so I’m just wondering how it all works and how I go about getting my name changed on these documents once I am married. Thanks for the help and guidance xxx

  6. Hi everyone! Since receiving my ten year green card, I have changed my last name to my husband's officially on my SSN and DL. I want to apply for my N-400 since I am now eligible, but have yet to change my name from my maiden to married on my green card. Do I need to file an I-90 before I can apply for N-400 or can I go straight to N-400 with new last name?? Thank you :)
