  1. Hi everyone, I am in the process of filing N-600 for my son, there is a question (Q14) about his admission to the United States asking about the travel document used and the document number, we admitted as refugees, and while I was checking our I-94, I noticed that they printed the A number in the Passport number field! any explanation for that? and which number should I put in the N-600 form? I am baffled.
  2. Do i have to put the I-94 number date of entry and date of expiration when filling the I-130 online? He is not currently in the united states and i saw somone say before that if they are not in the USA there is no need to fill this out.
  3. Hi everyone! I just got in the US with my L2 (spouse of an L1b) visa. I know that last November there was a change in the EAD requirement for L2 visa possessors, in the sense that we no longer need the authorization to work in the US, which is fantastic news! That being said, I still am unsure if this new regimen is already active. I read that the I-94 form should change for us, but since this is my first I-94, I do not know if I am already exempt from the EAD. On my I-94, it states that I am entering on a L2 visa, that's it. Nobody told me anything about my working situation, the EAD etc. Do any of you know if the new regimen is already in place? If not, when will it be activated and how will I get on this? Thank you!
  4. Hi there, came across a few questions re: I-485. For context, I'm going through a marriage-based, AOS. I came to the U.S. on an F-1 visa, stayed after graduation on an OPT. My last port of entry (snippet of my current I-94 below) was while I was on F-1 OPT status. Between then and now, I've changed my status to a TN (because my current employer was not e-verify). I have not left the U.S. since. Now comes to my predicament on the I-485 app. from the screenshot below, I have the following questions regarding the parts. NOTE: I'm taking the text "When I last arrived in the United States" at face value and quite literally. 25.a.: since when I last entered the U.S., I was on F1-OPT I can see the argument for either "temporary worker" or "student". Leaning towards temporary worker. 26.b. Here, I'm confused. My I-94 stated D/S, but my TN has an expiry date in 2024. Should I leave it blank and write in "D/S" or enter the expiry per my TN visa? 26.c. Given it's asking for my class of admission per my I-94, I'm inclined to write "F-1" 27 Here I'll obviously type in TN-1
  5. I wish somewhere in the K1 process it mentioned making an appointment with the Social Security office to get an SSN. Evidently immediately upon landing in the US with a K1 visa the fiance can and SHOULD go get an SSN. As it stands we got married and then filed for I-485 Permanent Residence and I-765 (Employment Authorization). These take 5-6 months and included SSN creation, however that's six months without being able to obtain things that require and SSN, like bank account, driver's license, etc. It's too late now for us, but if your fiance lands here, immediately visit the Social Security office with your unexpired I-94 (Department of Homeland Security Arrival/Departure Record).
  6. Is it true that my fiancée would only have to file a copy of her I-94 form if she's currently in the US? I'm finding it difficult to find a straight answer on this particular question. --Thanks!
  7. Hey all! 🙃 So my Ecuadorian husband and I are preparing for his adjustment of status from an F1 visa, through marriage to a US Citizen (me!). We tried to retrieve an electronic copy of his I-94 from the CBP website because Form I-485 asks for that info. When we typed in his 10-digit Passport Number (made up example: 0123456789) , which is the one labeled as ‘Passport No.’ on the actual passport, the website results showed an outdated arrival. At first we were panicking, thinking that his I-94 was never updated. But then we noticed this weird number on the top of the passport biographical page, listed between the country code (ECU) and the Passport No. It had an A followed by 7 digits (made up example: A1234567). I read up a little bit and I’m pretty positive it’s called a Passport BOOKLET/BOOK Number, basically an inventory number for passports, and very commonly used in South American countries. They change with each passport. Since my husband has three passports, he has three different passport booklet numbers, but all three have the same passport number “0123456789”. (Also, if this helps, his visa also lists the same passport number “0123456789” thank God lol 😅.) So anyways we were like - “OK, let’s try these!” When we typed in the passport BOOKLET/BOOK numbers, each booklet number (and NOT the Passport No.) brought up his different arrival dates, including his most recent arrival date. These booklet numbers were also listed as the actual “passport number” on the I-94s. That’s why the booklet numbers were bringing in the most updated results, I imagine. Although our problem was temporarily solved since we could download his most recent I-94, I’m concerned that USCIS officers will have issues. They’ll see two discrepancies: His passport lists both the booklet and passport number. But… his most recent I-94 lists the booklet number as THE passport number. They’ll be like “Uhm the passport number on the I-94 should be 012345678, and not A1234567, ma’am.” His actual passport number, once entered, will pull up an outdated I-94 that lists a different arrival date than the newer I-94 that was retrieved with the booklet number. Anyone have any ideas or knowledge about this, I know it’s super specific but I’m really trying to avoid making an appointment with them, if there’s technically nothing wrong going on and we’re just freaking out over something they already know how to manage. Maybe their system is way more integrated than what’s generating the forms on the website, and it won’t be a problem? I appreciate any insights!
  8. Good morning all, Hope you are all well! I have a few questions that I cannot find concrete info. for. 1) My fiancée and I got married within the 90 day period. However, we did not apply for a social security number due to covid and since then, her i-94 has expired. What are our options now in order to get her a social security number which we need for various reasons (I assume it will be one that says "not valid for employment" which is fine.) Is there a way to get her a new i-94 or an extension at our USCIS office? 2) We have filed her AOS for the Greencard, but she would like to work in the meantime. Would it make sense to file the i-765 for employment? I did some research and some places mention that by the time she gets her work authorization permit, her Greencard will be approved. Is this true? 3) In some forms, it asks what her current immigration status is. She initially entered on a K1, but since we are now married, what would her status be? Do I still put K1 or do I put AOS - adjustment of status? Thanks in advance. Cheers!
  9. Hello! Filling out I-485 and completing the I-94 information. I entered the US as F1. My I-94 states "date of expiry" as D/S. My status later changed to H1. But i haven't left the country to get the H1 visa stamped on my passport so my approval notice has the I-94 which has an expiry date (xx/xx/2022). Question - Do I use the I-94 information (for expiry date) on H1 approval notice? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you Naveen
  10. Good morning! I'm a US citizen through naturalization, and my mom came to visit at the beginning of the year. We decided that she is going to stay here due to COVID situation in her residence country. Her tourist visa allowed time on her passport passport (I-94) is going to expire by the end of June. We sent the I-485 Adjustment of Status application to USCIS Lockbox and was delivered on May 25th. I know that because of Covid NoA are taking longer than usual, and now I'm thinking that her i-94 might expire before receiving any notification that her process has started. Should I file for a visa extension? Should I just wait? If her visa expires does she have to go back to her residence country? Any help will be appreciated... Thanks!
  11. Hello all I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post on or if it should be in the K1 area but I'll start my inquiry here. My fiance made it to the US (finally ) on a K1 NIE on April 9th. I got him added to my credit card no problem, t omy bank account with a little issue (had to fill out some crazy form and wait an hour). I would like for him to get a SSN before we get married May 21st. I wanted to know: - if we are able to make an appointment with our local office do they retain any original documents or do they look/copy and return? - If they approve the application (SS5 or some such) do we need to wait for it to be in hand to get married/ or is it a matter or once they approve it we can marry and just wait for it to come in the mail? I guess I'm just a little confused on the timing as we have been flip flopping if we should get in now or when we file AOS. Thanks for any advice!
