  1. Hello all, Several years ago I started my immigration journey to the states and a year and a halfish ago I became a US citizen (now ha e dual canadian/us) via a marriage green card! My husband is a US citizen. As we are looking to start a family, we are considering moving to Nova Scotia where my family is, as housing is affordable and we want to be near my family as we have kids. But the process to essentially start all over again in a different country with immigration is so daunting. 1. Does anyone know what the immigration process would be like for my husband? I'm curious how he would work (as he is the main breadwinner) while in the immigration process of a marriage based citizenship. 2. He works for himself, also curious how that would be impacted by moving countries/immigrating. Starting his business again on the other coast. 3. What's the timeline right now to become a Canadian citizen? 4. Anything else you think would be helpful advice or knowledge when reading about our situation? Helpful answers would be so appreciated, from one human to another. Thanks!
  2. Hello all, Years ago I started my immigration journey to the states and a year and a halfish ago I became a US citizen (now ha e dual canadian/us) via a marriage green card! My husband is a US citizen. As we are looking to start a family, we are considering moving to Nova Scotia where my family is, as housing is affordable and we want to be near my family as we have kids. This website seems to be US based only, but does anyone have any knowledge on the following questions or point me towards someone/a website who does? I've looked into lawyers and even the cheapest ones are so unaffordable. Money is really tight right now for us. 1. If I move back to Canada, will I lose my US citizenship? 2. Most importantly, the process to essentially start all over again in a different country with immigration is so daunting. This website was enormously helpful and there doesn't seem to be anything like this for people moving to Canada. Does anyone know what the immigration process would be like for my husband? I'm curious how he would work (as he is the main breadwinner) and what the steps to apply for marriage based Canadian citizenship would be like for him. 3. He works for himself, also curious how that would be impacted by moving countries/immigrating. Starting his business again on the other coast. 4. How does this work with his US citizenship- does the US gov really care that much or could he have both? I am sorry if this is totally the wrong place for this. I'm just so lost and anxious and this site was such a saving grace for me before. Helpful answers would be so appreciated, from one human to another. Thanks!
  3. Hi, I'm a permanent resident of the US. My wife is Canadian (She’s born in Taiwan). We got married in the US last year, and our baby was born in the US last year, too. My wife entered the US with her Canadian passport every time, based on agreement between the US and Canada, she can stay up to 6 months per visit. Currently, my wife would like to apply for the green card. Based on our investigation, there are two options: Adjustment of Status and Consular Processing. Currently, we prefer Adjustment of Status since my wife can work in the US after getting the EAD card and the Advance Parole document can allow her to travel back to Canada. Consular processing does not support EAD card or travel document. If we choose Adjustment of Status, is it OK for my wife to stay in the US when the application is in pending status? (Our concern is that she entered the US with her Canadian passport, there is no valid visa) If we choose Consular Processing, can my wife enter the US when the application is still in pending status? We know it might take more than 1 year to get the marriage based green card approved nowadays, which one option will take shorter time? Thanks, Kevin
  4. Hi all! Happy New Years. My wife & I are starting the journey of applying for our CR-1. I'm a Canadian Man & She is a U.S Citizen. After looking at the guides on here, I wanted to ask if we're supposed to file I-864 at the same time, and I am unclear if we're also to file I-485 at the same time. I'm new to this and attempting to get everything right before we file anything and want a smooth process. Can someone clarify if we're to file I-130, 485, and 864 at the same time? Am I missing a form here? Thanks!
  5. Hi all! I stumbled onto VJ upon researching for my current situation. I did some searching, found some old topics, but I have a few things that I want to ask and get some clarification on. We are currently legally married, we got married in a civil ceremony in September of 2022 this year in Canada, Ontario. We received our official certificate last month. We've been doing on and off LDR for our entire relationship, with several trips between Canada and States. We're planning for our Ceremony in July of 2023, and she is about to leave Canada next month to return home, and to plan more of our ceremony. My job is remote, so I am used to working while in the States while dealing with time zone differences. I was planning on going down to visit her for her birthday in late March. I had heard that I could file for an AoS when I arrive. I do have strong ties to Canada, and I have not fully committed to this idea. We were going to begin the CR-1 visa process post-ceremony, though that could take quite a long time from what I understand. What are some advantages and disadvantages at this state? I know that if I file my AoS, I will not be able to travel until my AD comes back. I am okay with this. I'm looking for what might be the easiest solution to ensure that we are no longer doing LDR every several months. I've never had any issues with visiting the States, and they've always let me go through. This is the first time, however, I will be crossing and telling them I will be visiting for my wife's birthday. Would I qualify to file for my I-130, 485, 785 and 131 once I arrive in the States if I do change my mind when I arrive? Thanks in advance!
  6. Anyone from canada have any insight as to how long it’s taking to get packet 3? The consulate received my petition on September 27 and I was given a “ready” on October 5 but I still haven’t gotten packet 3. I’m worried it’s lost in the mail or something????
  7. Hi! I am a dental hygiene student in Canada wanting to move to America… my boyfriend is going to get his student VISA transferred to a work VISA so he is good to go (he is Canadian who went to university in US). My case is a bit harder… I am looking for ANY advice or help for a dental hygienist to go to America. Has anyone else done this before? I don’t even know where to start. I believe I need a dentist to sponsor me… how hard will that be?! I appreciate any and all help I can get
  8. My fiancé lived in Iran for at least 6 months since age of 16, and the visa requirements indicate that you need a police report from each country you resided at for at least 6 months. However, under the immigration page, it states that an Iran police certificate is unreliable and not required for immigrant visas. I have attempted asking the embassy at Montreal and talking to other attorneys but there are mixed opinions. Has anyone had their fiancé go through the visa interview with or without an Iran police clearance who can tell me whether it is required? If it is not required, is there a way to get US embassy to send email or letter verifying an exemption?
  9. Hi there, I got on offer to develop and work on a course for a US company as an instructor. Most of the work would be conducted here in Canada (developing the course, etc). I will however have to go to the US for 2 days to have the course filmed. This gig is paid but there is an option for them to pay me solely for the work I conduct here in Canada rather than the presentation I do in the US. Which option do you think is best suited for my case? Thanks!
