Our Story

  1. Hi I am filling up my Form N-400. Under the "Time outside united states" I should say how many days did I spent outside United states for the past 5 years. Time line: Today is 2022--- 5 years back track will be from 2017-2021 I arrive in the USA sept 19, 2019. So does this means my answer should be 932 days since I was still living in the Philippines for more than 2 years in 2017 to sept of 2019. Any answers will be very helpful. Thank you so much
  2. I had my N-400 interview on December 16, 2021 and was recommended for approval. IO told me to expect the letter in the next 30 days. I understand Christmas delays the process a bit and that's why I waited for a few more days outside of the 30 days window. Is there a way to inquire about Oath Ceremony letter? Thank you.
  3. Hi everyone, My husband moved to the US on a K1 in October 2015. We married in November 2015 and immediately adjusted status. His Conditional Permanent Resident card was approved in April 2016. Conditions were removed in and approved in February 2019. on USICS’s website under am I eligible, it asks if you became a LPR (lawful) before April 2017 and then it’s the 5 year rule. My question is does the 5 year rule Apply to when you became a Conditional Resident or a Lawful resident? Or does it mean when you moved here? Thanks!
  4. 2014-2022 Entered the US with J1 visa. Married to a US citizen. Got the conditional GC Marriage annulled by default, due to me not being present at the court for the verdict, and my ex’s accusations of infidelity in court… Moved on and married again. My wife and I are married for more than 3 years now. After the second marriage, I joined the US Navy. (Got discharged under honorable conditions) Applied for naturalization through the military. But my first application was denied; due to being on informal probation for DUI.🤦🏻‍♂️ While still on active duty, and after my probation terms have ended, I re-applied for naturalization! I passed the civics test, completed my interview and have been waiting for a decision for over a year now. My conditional green card through my first marriage has expired/got lost/terminated…I just have never been notified by the USCIS about it. Honestly, I’m just tired of this whole process…it is so frustrating and stressful to wait for a decision! It’s taking a huge toll on me and my health…I don’t remember how many times I called USCIS to get an update, but they don’t have any. I don’t even know what’s going on, or what my status currently is. I need help! I need to be able to travel and come back to US. I haven’t seen my family in 7 years now, and I need to be able to adjust my status, or get some type of documentation/stamp/visa/permit/card, ……anything! On top of that, my immigration attorney ghosted me. I haven’t been able to get any correspondence from her, or her law firm for 3-4 months now…I would appreciate any insight, advice and referrals. Thank you!
  5. I got an interview notice to show up for my interview. However, I get to the office, they call my name but I see "requested" written by my name. The agent indicates to me that my case file has been requested and is not at the field office hence they could not proceed with my N400 interview. I tried to get indication on next steps but all they said was it varys and I will receive another interview notice when they eventually get the file. My case status on the portal has not changed to reflect this and still reflects my case has been scheduled for interview. Has anyone encountered similar issues? I am freaking out. This occured in the Newark office. Thanks
  6. Hi Gurus, Probably this has been asked before. I wondered how accurate is the time estimation in the USCIS MyCase website about N-400 processing. It was showing 3 months left but then it was pushed back to 9 months suddenly last month. Is it possible that I got the interview invite letter for USCIS before the estimated time? Thanks
  7. I had a minor traffic accident in 2016 where the other party was denied for personal injury claim by my insurance which resulted them to filing a civil case which was settled and dismissed in 2018. Therefore, I answered yes to question 23 of my n400 and my interview is on Monday. Now I am worried on what to say to the IO.
  8. Hello, My fifth birthdate of my Green Card is coming soon, I will apply for N400. Due to my work condition I had to travel a lot out of the US for periods less than 6 months, so I did not break the 6 months rule. However, I have many trips of around 4-5 months periods and the total physical presence is just few days more than 30 months, will this affect my application in anyway? I know it should be ok, but I want to make sure if I am missing anything. Any hints on that please? Thanks
  9. Hi All Members, i need your help as i am confused to file for N400. The problem is my Address. Let me tell you in detail in 2018 i came to USA after getting married to a US Citizen. Since then i was living in a Joint Family. Back in Aug 2020 i have filled a I751 using the address we were living in. In Jully 2021 we moved to our own apartment in the same street and as i told you we were living in a joint family i didn’t change my Mail address. And in have never requested to USCIS to for the change of address as that address is like my 2nd home. Now i want to file N400 and i am confused with the addresses. If i use new address for N400 then there’ll confusion as i’ll be having two petitions and both have different addresses. Can i use my new address as my current address but old address as Mailing address? Would it fine? Please help. Thanks in Advance
  10. Hi, As title says, I got they interview in a couple of hours. I became 26 before I became a resident however, I was 26 AFTER I applied to change my status from student to resident. I was I-485 pending status I guess. Any ways, so I registered for Selective Service during this time before I got issued a SSN and the proof of selective service has my name, DOB but not my SSN.. Now on SS website they can't find my record for obvious reasons, they don't have my SSN. Now was I supposed to register ? what to say when immigration officer ask about it? should I hand it or say I wasn't supposed to register because I became a resident after being 26??
  11. HI, So after a hectic week, I ended up filing my N400. Though biometrics were last taken in 2015, I got the reuse notice as well. Things appear to be in order for now. Will keep this thread current as it moves forward.
  12. Greetings, I am compiling N400 under a five-year rule. During 2020, I was absent for 205 days, hence, presumed to break in the continuity of residence that is required for naturalization. Law requires that in order to overcome this presumption of break, an applicant must provide a range of evidence to establish that they did not abandon their US residency during the absence from the US. Now that I am applying for N400 online, should I attach all the evidence along with the application or wait for them to ask for it?
  13. This is for those folks who applied during pandemic (mostly in 2020) and whose cases are stuck and not moving while those who applied in 2021 are already becoming citizens, I came across this post by @AH2020 in one of the threads and thought this would help if anyone is in the same situation The below was posted in the May 2000 thread and in the "Federal Records Center" thread. I just sent an email to Susan, we should all contact her. Anything she can do to get things moving would be fantastic. ----------- The law firm Mintz Levin is interested in talking with constituents about their naturalization applications that are not moving forward because the files are sitting at the Federal Records Center. If this is of interest to you, please reach out to Susan Cohen at SJCohen@mintz.com and title the subject line "Federal Record Center" in your email. Please know that this outreach will be at no cost to you and they will not provide legal advice. They are exploring how large an issue this is nationally so that they can address the situation head-on. ------------

  15. Hello All, I used to be a K-1 visa holder and went through the N-400 process. I submitted my US Passport application in August 2021; I live in Southern California. It has since been approved on Oct 21, 2021 and I've received the actual passport and passport card last week. Such a great relieve. I'm still waiting for them to return my naturalization certificate. My question is, "What do I do now?" I read somewhere here that I may need to go to Social Security Office to update my SSN card? Is this necessary? I've been legally employed since 2018 and my SSN card has no condition, it's just a plain card with my name, number and signature. It's basically looks like this sample: If I do have to go to SSA office, what is the reason of my going there / make the appointment? Please advise. Thank you. J/G
  16. My wife received her N400 interview notice while the I751 case is still pending. She applied for N400 when she became eligible while waiting for the I751. The notice doesn't mention anything about the I751. Do we assume it is going to be a combo interview? I read in past posts that some mentioned their letters asked their spouse also be present. Her letter doesn't say anything like that; basically just ask for her, an interpreter (if needed) or attorney be present (If needed). I plan to go anyway just in case it is a combo. We live in North NJ and all along we are expecting the interview to be held in Newark NJ. For whatever reason her N400 interview is in NYC. Has anyone tried moving the case to their home state and reschedule? Or is it better to just go instead of moving things around? Any insights will be appreciated. Thanks.
  17. Hello VisaJourney Tribe! (I'm Canadian, and a permanent resident of the US since 2008. Got in with a K1, got married, but the marriage dissolved.) Here is a barrage of question. If anyone can answer any of these, I'd of course be most grateful. 1. Thanks to the pandemic, finances went really south. They weren't terrific before, however I managed. So applying with having had some assistance, is that a no-no? 2. Due to the pandemic, are biometrics still charged but not actually done? 3. Is applying for financial assistance to pay for the application a "death sentence", meaning chances would be slimmer to be allowed to become a citizen? 4. I use a mail service being I move often, is this also a red flag to USCIS? 5. Anything I don't even know to ask? 😆 Thanks! May you be having a terrific day.
  18. Hi all! I'm applying for citizenship with a prior criminal charge, case was dismissed. this happened exactly 3 yrs ago.. I recently spoke with an immigration attorney and she said if I was to apply now and IF I get denied it wouldn't be because of the crime itself but because of lack of good moral character. My question is for anyone with a past criminal charge, who has applied and got approved- did you wait 5yrs after your criminal case to file n400?? And if not what did you submit to "bulk up" your good moral character?? Thank you all for the help.
  19. Hi , I will be completing my 3 Year Permanent residency on dec 25th 2021 which is required to file the citizenship based on marriage ( 3 yr requirement) but I recently moved to TX state from Connecticut so do i have to wait for 3 months in the current state ( TX) before filing for n400 naturalization?
  20. My wife's I751 "ready to schedule for interview" status has been unchanged since April 2020. Oct 2020 we scheduled an InfoPass appointment and got an ADIT stamp (I551 Stamp) because her extension letter was expiring. Now we're almost where we were a year ago and with the stamp expiring soon. I tried calling the 800 number with hopes to speak to a real person but time and again got turned down by the robot on the phone. Apparently having an expiring I551 stamp doesn't meet their criteria to speak to an agent. Is anyone having the same issue? I'm guessing the expiration date is not close enough yet. But I don't recall it was this difficult to get through to a real person last year. Any tips to get through? We also tried submitting an inquiry on the uscis processing times site but weeks went by and received no reply from the agency. She also has her N400 pending. Want to find out if anyone is having combo interview recently? And want to know if USCIS will notify you about the cases will become a combo and how soon they'll inform you before the interview. Thanks for any help in advance. -JK
  21. I just had my interview yesterday and I passed. However, the IO dug on my middle name and maiden name. Basically and legally in the Philippines where I came from, if you get married our names(women) will become First Name- Father’s Last Name-Spouse’s Last Name. For example…Annie Reyes(Maiden Name) Araullo married to John Macapagal. Then, it will become Annie Araullo Macapagal. Thus my maiden name will be removed. But the IO insisted that in US it should be Annie Reyes Macapagal. I explained to him how it works in our country and even told him that my legal name in all of my documents are the same since I got married, he said he understood and even went to the other room for a consultation and I overheard the woman explaining the same thing as I did( cuz I think she’s also from the Philippines:)). Still, IO insisted that I do name change if I wanted my name to be as Annie Araullo Macapagal. I said yes and he let me signed a petition to the court which will take 45 days till my oath ceremony. I’m just now confused because all of my documents-GC,SSN,passport etc are all Annie Araullo Macapagal since I got married, so how could that be a name change??? Hmmm, well the bottomline is he said to not worry because I passed and now a US Citizen and just wait for the oath ceremony. Please any advices or same cases as I had. Thanks
  22. I filled our N400 by mail and got a electronic receipt about a week later. One week after this i got the two paper receipts around 2 or 3 days apart. I was able to add my paper (IEO) receipt to my online USCIS account and saw that PDFs of the two receipts mailed to me. I also saw a snapshot of some supporting documents attached to my file but when i opened the TIF file it is only a few pages of the documents mailed. Someone else from here shared their snapshot with me and i see all their documents listed. They efilled online and this is why they see all and ii see an sample. What about everyone else, if you did paper, do you see all supporting documents or a sample and what do you think one ought to do (a) upload all supporting documents mailed-in, (b) do nothing and wait, (c) something else you thought of. Thanks in advance
  23. I'm just starting this thread for Philadelphia filers. The purpose is to track the case progress and know the interview experience. I filed in May 2021 and I'm waiting to hear about interview! Cheers!
  24. Hi everyone, I am going to file N400 online in 2 weeks under 3 years rule. I have few questions: 1) Is there an option to add extra sheets on online form to add explanation? (Like by mail, you can just stick extra sheet at the end of your form, what about online?) 2) What to do if I don't remember the exact dates of 2 of my jobs? Can I write the 1st of the month for start and 30th for the end date? Thank you in advance.
  25. Hi, my wife’s Oath ceremony was ceremony cancelled the same day she did the interview. It’s been over three weeks. Her auntie, who gave the interview two days later than her. Already gave her oath ceremony. She called uscis and they said maybe due to covid, that they have limited seats. So they will put her on next batch. However, her sister who gave interview last week, got her oath ceremony scheduled for mid September. What can she do now, I haven’t seen my wife for very long now and after she updates from green card holder to citizenship, the marriage petition will process faster. thank you for your time, any help would be appreciated.
