Our Story

  1. My Indian Passport and GC have my First and Middle name both under "Given Name" . i.e Given Name: Pavan Manan. Middle Name is fully spelt out and not just Initial While filling out N-400, question is to provide name exactly as it is on my GC with sections to fill Given Name (First), Middle Name, Family Name (Last name). I am confused as to whether I write my Middle Name under Middle Name or along with my first name in Given Name as it is in my Indian Passport and GC? Option 1 : Given Name (First): Pavan Manan, Middle Name: Blank, Family Name (Last name): XYZ ; Option 2 : Given Name (First): Pavan, Middle Name: Manan, Family Name (Last name): XYZ. Ideally, I would prefer option 2 as it exactly differentiates my first and middle names.
  2. Had my joint i751 + N400 interview back on Dec 5th. I was told I passed n400 and would receive an oath ceremony pending i751(divorce waiver) on January 3rd n400 status changed to recommended for naturalization submitted for quality review. And then changed same day to the oath ceremony will be scheduled. Jan 4th i751 changed to case was approved. Now I've been waiting for an oath ceremony for over a month with no details from USCIS on when that'll be. Detroit FO. My ADIT stamp expires in April and I'm planning to leave the country in April for about two months, so I fear not getting a passport in time if I have to wait much longer. My questions are is it still too early to involve a congressman to get my oath ceremony scheduled? Is this much of a wait time normal? Is there any other option to get scheduled? Edit: Ive come across a few people that interviewed a month after me this February in the same situation, that already have their oath ceremony dates for this month. And i find it odd that i have not yet gotten mine.
  3. Hello All, I would like to know the status of my case(I know I can see that in case status page, which has been showing as REVIEWING for more than 6 months). I tried like to ASK EMMA and typed "info pass", it showed me this "Please select the link below to schedule or manage an InfoPass appointment with a USCIS Immigration Officer.". My question is, if I schedule an appointment, would that effect my case anyway? Without going through EMMA, if I call USCIS and say "INFOPASS" and ask about my case status, would that have negative effect on my case? Thanks in Advance for your responses.
  4. Hi, looking to see if anyone has found a way to get directly in-touch with the USCIS officer that interviewed them post naturalization interview. How do you submit evidence if they ask for more? I was not asked for more but my interview occured 12/13/2022, with a pending i-751. This is all marriage based. I passed, and the officer didnt realize my i-751 was pending until we got to that question. And no, he didnt need to request/wait for my file. It was in front of him on his desk. He asked if i wanted to give additional evidence so i gave him recent mortgae statements, health insurance, other insurance stuff since everything in the i-751 was from summer of 2020. It's february, and no movement. Yes, my spouse was outside but was never asked to come in. I honestly feel like he put my file on the back of his desk and forgot about it. I've put in a message through the USCIS portal and got a general response back saying the last status is that i attended the interview. Has anyone had this happen, and been waiting this long? Any way to get through to this guy? I legit feel like i was just forgotten and not this is just pending because no one is thinking/looking at it...out of sight out of mind. I wonder if now with things being more elctronic if officers get promts when something is approaching the 120 days... but i doubt it, and it's probably just wishful thinking. At this point it has been 38 business days post interview that was passed and he even made the comment that 1) he would look at my case next week (i.e. Week of December 20th), and when i gave him the additional evidence he said he doesn't forsee there being problems with i-751 approval with this type of evidence and us having as child together since getting married etc. How can i just get someone to remind this guy to look at my stuff --- we really are an easy case!
  5. My, my wife and my daughter (10 yrs old) all got our GC in Jan 2018. I just finished applying for N400 for me and my wife. Do I need to file a separate application for my daughter to become a US Citizen or is there a different process for her?
  6. Hi All! I'm currently preparing to file N400 form, do I need to provide evidences like joint bank account, etc... I've been waiting for our tax transcript and that's the only thing that holding me up to file for this. Is Form 1040 good enough?
  7. I have a 2.5 years old school bus crossing traffic citation of over 500 USD. The ticket was controvarsial so I hired a traffic lawyer who is representing me for this case. We are still waiting for a court date on this ticket while I have N400 interview in two weeks. My traffic lawyer's office is saying that as I am not convicted yet so it should not be a problem. On the other hand many people and lawyer online say its best to not keep any citation pending during interview.Even if I try to pay this ticket I have the option to go on deffered probation for 6 months to make off record, if I do this my ticket will be eventually dismissed after 6 months but the immigration officer might hold off my decision until I send them proof of ticket getting dismissed through probation. Or I can pay off the ticket without probation option that way this ticket will be in my driving record, charge points but might not delay my interview decision. I am not sure what to do at this point. Can anyone help me find some answers to my questions?
  8. Hello, I'm eligible to apply for my N400 and I qualify for the 5 year Green card category. I understand that I need to have last 5 years worth of Tax return transcripts. I recently got married and my wife is Non resident alien i.e she lives outside the united stated and she is going through immigration process. Last year I.e 2021, I filed a the return return through paper filing instead of e-filing and the tax return was accepted by IRS. I have a copy of the paper returns from turbo tax which I used to prepare. Unfortunately, When I try to access the transcript for 2021 on IRS.gov, It says it does not have any record for 2021. But when I checked the IRS's "where is my refund?" tool, I can see that the "return was received" by IRS. My question is if I cannot get the tax return in time, Can I take the returns from turbo tax instead and my W2s? I can also show that I send in the check that I owed extra which IRS cashed in. is there anything I can request from IRS that helps? also do I need to submit the tax return when I submit the N400 application or can I just carry it for the interview. Thanks for your answers.
  9. Hello All, I applied my N400 online in July 2022 with pending 751 and been waiting for interview since then, I've seen many people who applied after me became citizens or got interviews long ago. I know scheduling of the interview depends on Field Office workload, mine is Rhode Island and I seen here in VJ timelines that people got scheduled for interview in 3-4 months in my FO but I'm still waiting from almost 6 months. My Questions: 1. Does uploading more documents trigger or will it delay more (I did not upload documents of my 751 and a letter to request to adjudicate both the cases)? 2. When you add your case here, does it update your case automatically when there is an event like interview scheduled/oath/biometric or you have to update it manually? Thanks in Advance for your time for answering this question and also helping all others.
  10. Helping mother-in-law apply for US citizenship. However, it is asking for evidence regarding her grown adult children. Do I really need to submit this evidence? * her daughter (my wife) is already a US citizen * her other children are adults and they either are US citizens or live abroad And if so, what evidence do they need? Getting copies of birth certificates may be a hassle.
  11. Didn't see a June 2022 N-400 Filers group, so thought I'd start it. Also, saw some folks saying they had issues at interview if they filed the first day of their 90-day early filing window. Anyone else have that issue? Since last week, I also received an update that my pending I-751 has been transferred, assuming to the local office that will process the N-400. 90 day mark for submission: June 15, 2022 Submitted N-400: June 15, 2022 (online) N-400 Online Biometrics Waiver: June 15, 2022 (online portal) N-400 NOA1: June 15, 2022 (online portal) I-751 Pending: Yes, submitted June 17, 2021 (SRC) I-751 Pending Case Transfer Notice: June 18, 2022
  12. Hi I applied for my n400 6 months back and wanted to get an idea of what the time line for n400 looks like at this field office! Thank you!
  13. I'll try to be as detailed as I can I'm totally freaking out over here . Case History, All at DET center In a relationship with USC spouse for 4 years prior to marriage. (I was on DACA) Married in April 2016 Filed for AOS the next month. Interviewed and approved on the spot in September 2016 for AOS and received Conditional green card a few weeks later Marriage got rocky mid 2017 ultimately filed for divorce end of 2017, divorce finalized may 2018 Filed I751 August 2018 and then the long wait Met my current spouse in 2018 and was remarried at the end of 2018 (still married) Filed N400 this year in May after the 5years had elapsed Received first interview appointment for last October. After waiting in the lobby of the agent came out to let me know that they couldn't find my paperwork from my i-751 and that they couldn't proceed with the interview that day and they would reschedule it after they found my paperwork. Got a notice on October 31st of new interview date of December 5th and just had my interview yesterday. It was a combo interview i751 and N400 as the i751 had still been pending. The agent I had was a bit more stern than I had anticipated, however I tried to keep my cool and stick to what I knew. Issues I ran into: A page of my judgement of divorce was missing from my original file. Luckily I had read on here to make sure to have extra certified copies and I gave them one copy. Second issue and this would be the most pivotal. Midway through which you told me that he could not approve my i751. He still has a lot of questions to which I instantly told him I have even more proof of our relationship being bonafide. I brought a album of photos which showed our relationship from the very beginning when we were just dating. Much younger through marriage that show trips with family with each other, etc. He also asked if we owned any property. I told him we didn't. I did have extra copies of our lease agreements bills in both of our names, utilities, credit cards. She was listed as the primary beneficiary on my 401k. My life insurance we shared medical insurance as well through my workplace. I had records of all the trips we took together. Also had copies of letters from the state or address changes etc. Affidavits from some of our friends. In my paperwork and at the interview I did mention how we started clashing on religious beliefs. We both share the same religion but she chose to not actively practice and it caused clashes on how we planned to raise the kids we were trying to have and it led to other arguments etc. I assume this wasn't a good enough reason for the agent. Because after I showed him the photo album did state. Are you sure that it wasn't because you guys were too young and didn't understand how serious marriage was. To which I did mention we were very young. We got married. Not super young but early 20s and because of this we didn't understand a lot of things that I know now in life after therapy etc. Of our relationships change and how we can't expect them to be the same and then as I was getting ready to pull out more information, he said that's all right. Let's move forward with the n400. We went through the entire n400 at the end he told me that I have passed the n400 and he would be recommending me for naturalization pending the i751. On the paperwork that they gave me he did select that I was recommended for naturalization and not the section that says a decision can't be made at this moment. I don't know if this has any weight. I'm just confused because my 751 is of course still pending and I don't know if I gave him enough proof. I offered to leave it any extra documents that I have with him and he told me that he didn't need them and that the next steps after they make their decision would be the scheduling me for my oath ceremony. He went into detail about how I wouldn't receive a green card as what I would receive instead would be a notice of my schedule of ceremony. So I don't really know how it went. Hopefully somebody has some advice am I overthinking? It really caught me off guard when he told me that he wasn't going to approve my i751 during the interview. And I don't know if they normally continue the interview for the n400 if they can't prove the i751. Let alone give me the paper at the end recommending my naturalization. Has anyone been through something similar?
  14. Hi everyone, I have a question and I appreciate anyone who could give me enlightenment and resolution to my problem. I have just applied for my N400. Without further consideration, I answered NO under question 23. Back story: I was cited for a civil traffic due to speeding. The officer suggested that I go to a traffic school to remove the ticket in my records. So I did. I submitted the ticket and payment to the traffic school and so I have not one single proof with me. I am very concerned because I just had my biometrics last week. I am very anxious that it will be the reason for my application to get denied. Please enlighten me.
  15. Hi everyone, I am an EU citizen. When I travel back to my country, my flight has layover in Germany, Belgium etc, before I arrive to my home country. Do I need to list all of those stopping countries as the countries to which I traveled on the N400 application? I never entered those countries, but just because my flight stop by there. Thank you
  16. This might be an extremely naive question but I am hoping some of you can help answer some basic questions I have. To provide some background context, I am eligible for citizenship since I have been holding a green card since Jan 2019 (and married to a US spouse for 5 years) so I meet the requirement eligibility of A...As a spouse of a US Citizen, you can apply for citizenship 3 (three) years after approval of your Adjustment of Status. Your approval may be noted via any of the following: approval notice (I-797), on your passport (I-551 stamp and date), your green card ("resident since" date). The 3 year countdown begins with that date. This 3 year period does not include long absences from the United States. from this link : https://www.visajourney.com/faq/k1k2visa-naturalization.html/8.1 So I started the N400 document process online in the USCS site and the form seems straightforward but I am confused about what all documents to submit beyond the following 1. Copy of the green card 2. Tax documents from last three years (filed Jointly) 3. My wife's birth certificate showing that she is a US citizen by birth 4. Her US passport scan 5. Our marriage certificate scan When I did my green card application, we basically submitted a ton of paperwork such as joint bank statements, proof of owning a house together, electric bills (showing joint payment etc). Looking at the N400 form, I dont see any mention of that or even when I search online or in the forum for what package people sent. Do I not need to worry about sending loads of documents this time (or is there a recommended list) I can refer to somewhere which will tell me what additional documents to submit. Thank you so much.
  17. Hi, We filed N400 for my mother (aged 83). Her biometrics appointment was done on Dec 22 ar Greer,SC. They had lot of difficulty to get her finger prints. They claimed it is common for older adults. They finished it and sent us home. Now, when we checked USCIS site, they sent another notice for new biometrics for Jan 11th. Did anyone of come across a situation like this. What can be done to get the scans go smooth ?
  18. Hi, We filed N400 for my mother. It is most likely to be at Greer,SC. https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ shows it as 16.5 months. Does it really take 16 months for interviews. Is it Covid backlog skewing the averages
  19. I am starting my journey for citizenship. I am Belgian and I was wondering if I'd be able to be a dual citizen between US & Belgium? What is the process to be a dual citizen?
  20. I used the services of a tax preparer (H&R Block) to file my taxes for 2021, and after we completed my federal tax return the advisor informed me that I didn't need to file state taxes because I was under the reporting threshold (New Jersey). For the sake of being thorough before filing my N400 (regarding part 12 question 7: "Have you EVER not filed a Federal, state or local tax return since you became a lawful permanent resident?") I decided to check on state tax filing requirements just to be certain that I'm in good standing -- and found out that according to the NJ Division of Taxation website that my income for 2021 was over the reporting threshold. It seems this means that I should have filed a State Tax return for 2021, and I'm assuming the best course of action is to make sure my State Taxes get filed before proceeding with my N400. I'm going to get in touch with the preparer/office today to find out how to amend this ASAP before filing my N400 -- but I'm really stressing out about how this could affect my application even if I manage to get it filed late. Will I be in trouble with USCIS/immigration for not filing State Taxes on time even though I was told that I didn't have to/shouldn't by a tax advisor? Also once I do get this situation resolved and/or file my state taxes, does that then mean I can select "No" as my response to N400 part 12 question 7 because I will have filed all possible tax returns - even if one is late? Thank you so much, I'm beside myself with concern right now!
  21. hey guys my interview for N400 just scheduled on 7th this month and I went to online in account see the interview PDF file but it wasn't there so today on 8th its show up in account but whenever I open the file its just giving me error this {"data":null,"error":{"developerMessage":null,"userMessage":null}} anyone have this problem also and what should I do please advise and help me finally its been scheduled and now this thing. 22. Hi All, I have a question, can the naturalization be expedited? Need it for application for secret clearance. Is there a way to do it? Have submitted n400 online and currently waiting. Have the receipt number starting with IOE which probably means that it is at NBC. I am assuming once NBC finishes their process they send it over to the FO for interview scheduling right?
  23. Hi everyone 😃 I'm looking for recommendations for attorneys who have familiarity with the ins and outs of immigrating from China to the US. Thanks! Homer
  24. Hello, My wife filled her I751 in May of 2019 and filed her N400 in June of 2020. Her I751 is still not processed. Her initial 18 month extension expired. She was able to get a I551 stamp on her passport in February 2022 for 6 months. That expired end of August 2022. She called USCIS to get another 6 month stamp on August 2 which is within USCIS guidelines. She was told in 30 days, they will schedule an appointment at the Dallas USCIS office. After 30 days passed, she received an email from Dallas office notifying that they dont have any appointments. We tried multiple times to get an appointment but Dallas office keeps saying they dont have any appointments available. We even tried to get an emergency appointment but still received the same reply. We asked if a different office can stamp her passport and we were told it goes by zip code and there is no way to go to another office. We have out of country travel scheduled for October 21,2022 and November 5, 2022. At the moment, my wife does not have anything that says she is a permanent resident. Has anyone gone though something like this before?
  25. I had my N400 interview approved in Chicago on 9/15/22, there was no same day oath available. I'm still waiting for my oath ceremony date. Curious to see how long you guys had to wait for your oath ceremony after the N400 interview in Chicago. My interviewer said I should receive a notice in 2 weeks, but it has been almost 4 weeks now and guess what... still nothing haha. Can't wait to get this over with since I need to make some travel plans. Many thanks!!
