Our Story

  1. Starting this thread as I submitted my application this morning! I've been a LPR for 12 years but I was so unexcited about the idea of dealing with the USCIS again that I hadn't filed until now. Then time came to renew my green card and I thought, oh well, I might as well file my N-400 instead. What eventually convinced me is that citizenship applications are apparently processed much faster than I-90s! I'm the anxious kind and traveling around with an expired card and a piece of paper didn't sound great to me. Anyways, the online application was shockingly fast and easy. Now the waiting begins!
  2. I had my N400 interview yesterday at the Dallas service center. The officer mentioned he did not have my removal of condition file but we proceeded with the N400. After successfully passing the N400, he handed me a form marked decision cannot be made now and explained it was because he had to approve the I-751 but he assured he was going to approve both. Both status are still the same, is it normal? Thanks!
  3. Hello, I could not find a general N400 thread for our St. Louis office. I want to create this post for all the applicants who are applying for N400 in St. Louis. This will help to see the estimated wait time for St. Louis office.
  4. Hi all I submitted my N400 application online today and got my receipt notice and biometrics notice reused pdf files online!!! still waiting for my lifting conditions application to progress beyond fingerprints reused 13 months after that status changed!!
  5. Hi all, As we all know, plans don't always go to plan. Since applying for citizenship (and also, I'm still waiting for conditions to be removed) my husband and I have sold our house and are moving to another state. We are under contract for a new home build and have the new home address, but likely won't close until the build is complete later in the year. In the meantime, we will be staying with relatives for a few months. They live a few hours away and I've confirmed their address is serviced by another UCSIS location. I know that I have to be upfront and keep USCIS up to date with my address, but in this scenario would I be OK to put the address of my new home that's under construction, and a PO Box for the mailing address? Or will I need to put my in-laws address and change address again once we've moved in? I'm guessing the latter. Thanks
  6. Hello Everyone. I’m planning on applying for citizenship by filing the N-400. I initially obtained a 2yearsGreen Card from a first marriage but got divorce and filed a i-751 as divorcee ( provided the divorce decree in the i751 and currently still pending…since 2019 🥵) I’m now eligible for citizenship. However, since I got married last year, I’m not sure if there is a different form « to update my marital status » or should I simply include that new marriage certificate in the n-400 with the old one + divorce papers, or shouldn’t I provide any of that…? I’m a bit/big confused! I appreciate your help. Thank you!
  7. This thread is for those filing the N-400 in February 2023. My window to file opened up in November 2022 (three-year rule), but I filed it online on February 8, 2023. Received the NOA immediately on the website. Three days later, got the biometric appointment (on March 1) letter posted online (now waiting for it to arrive in mail). Also, the processing time dropped from 16 months to 8 months after they scheduled the biometrics. (My ROC is still pending and was filed in November 2021.) Good luck to all of us.
  8. Hello VJ community My wife had her interview today at USCIS and passed all the requirements. However she was not recommended for approval and he application was marked as: A decision cannot be made yet about your application on Form N-652. The immigration officer explained that her I-751 is still pending hence why they cannot recommend her for approval. She did her biometrics over a year ago and the I-751 processing time has been extended since there is a backlog of cases. Has this happened to anyone else? It seems a bit odd that they determine you are eligible to become a citizen but still want to go through the permanent resident process. Any information would be helpful. Thank you
  9. Hello everyone had my interview February 14th at the Tampa USCIS office which I was passed my US citizenship interview. I did change my last name. Anyone out there had any experience on the wait for your oath ceremony with a name change. Have a cruise booked in July and just want to make sure I have enough time between my oath ceremony and cruise to get my passport.
  10. Hello, I am stuck filling out the N400 online (under the 3 rear rule) on the question - [ Date your current spouse became a U.S. citizen? ]. My wife became a US Citizen through the naturalization of both her parents (Under the age of 18) and she doesn't know the date she became a USC. Her parents did not file N600 for her as they were probably unaware of that process! And applied for her passport based on her father's naturalization certificate. I red a few posts regarding this on VJ, but didn't get clarity on this. My confusion is what date should I put, and what evidence should I provide? 1) Date of her Passport? 2) Date of her father's Naturalization certificate? Thanks in advance for any help regarding this!
  11. I was approved for N-400 on may 05,2022. And approved on the spot. I request for the name change but Still waiting for the oath. It’s been more than 2 months. I call to USCIs but they said to wait for 4 months to submit any inquiry. Anyone who is waiting with me??
  12. I did my AOS based on my marriage to a US Citizen and got my two year GC in early 2021. I have been eligible to apply for N400 for a few weeks now while I wait for my 10 year GC to arrive (already have the 4 year extension to after removal of conditions). My wife and I are legally separated for almost a year. She ran off after I threatened to call the cops after continuous and regular domestic violence. She then filed for divorce on charges that were proved to be false during a hearing. She is telling our mutual friends that since I'm not a US citizen that I intend to run off with our child to another country (also untrue). I want to apply for my N400 to prove that I am not running away anywhere. Will USCIS accept my case instead of making me wait for the 5 year period?
  13. Hello, I have submitted my documents online for the n400 application. Long story short, I came to the US in 6/2020 and lived with my inlaws for a month before finding a place for me and my wife. We applied “married filing seperately” that year. Why? I really don’t know and neither my wife did but her parents said thats what we should do so we did (I barely knew anything regarding taxes at that time). I just checked the 2020 tax returns and found that the address on wife’s return is her parents address while my return shows our address that we moved to in 7/2020. Her W2 shows the correct address so I upload it too. Will that cause a problem? Our leese shows both our names in 2020, even bank statements.
  14. Hello again everyone, starting from January 2024 I can file the N400. However, the main concern in requesting the US citizenship or not, is the tax implications. I basically own an apartment in my country, which was purchased by my parents in 2014 and right after was donated to me. It has a certain value (range 500k to 1M $), hence I am afraid I have to pay high taxes on it. Btw, I am not getting any income from the property. My parents live there. Question is, if I decided to become a US citizen will I have to pay taxes on it? Or, since it was purchased before US neutralization and do not get income, should I be fine? thank you !
  15. Hello everyone, I am currently eligible to apply for my naturalization process. When I first moved to the United States, I initially lived with my in-laws for a month. Afterward, my family and I moved to our rented home, but I never officially updated my address with USCIS. Consequently, all my documents, including official communications, are still being delivered to my in-laws' address. Furthermore, my driving license displays my in-laws' address. The only document that reflects my current rented home address is my LLC, where I have mentioned it as my place of work since I work from home. I'm seeking advice on whether I should include my current home address on my N400 form or continue using my in-laws' address, given that we share the same zip code. If I do choose to mention my current address, I'm concerned it might raise a red flag with USCIS, as I haven't updated my address in three years, and it doesn't match my driver's license. Please advise on the best course of action.
  16. Well another year another month of N-400 submissions. This thread is for all of us that will be filing the N-400 in January 2023. Our window opens up January 3rd and we will be filing January 6th. Our ROC is still pending and was filed on January 6th 2022. Good work everyone getting to this point in your journey. Will post more once the N-400 has been filed on the 6th! Welcome to the thread!
  17. Hi guys, I been stressing out for years. I was charged with possession of controlled substance. The case was dismissed VA 251 deferred disposition with a plea of not guilty. It’s been 5 years since the case was dismissed. Is it okay to happy for naturalization? That’s the only charge I have no other crimes expect small traffic tickets
  18. As we approach October 2022, creating a thread for those planning to file N-400 in October 2022
  19. I am about to apply for citizenship, marriage based, we did our tax me and my wife together last 3 years using H&R block and randomly I was checking our account and I found that’s we gave a balance due to pay for IRS, However we already paid and done our tax with a professional agency. I m pretty sure H&R block miscalculate our tax. My question is do I need to fix that first and wait to apply for citizenship or I just send my tax return for 3 years, Since fixing that tax thing may take time
  20. Hi all, I filed my i-751 a year ago and I'm preparing to apply for citizenship. We just found out that my attorney made a mistake on my I-751 form and had me as unemployed despite me being employed. Did anyone have a similar situation and how did you fix it ?
  21. I am in a strange predicament. We filed for my husband's removal of conditions in June 2020. Then last year in Nov 2022, we also filed the N-400. On October 11, we received the notice for an interview for both which is scheduled for Nov 15,2023. We have a trip planned to Mexico and Mexico doesn't accept the I-797 as a valid proof of residency. We were trying to get a Mexican Visitor Visa using my husband's Indian passport and all the supporting forms but the passport becomes invalid after the interview (if we take the oath the same day as it is an option). If we take the oath, we would have to apply for a US passport which definitely would not get here on time for our travel. If we delay the oath, do we get the 10 year green card pretty soon before our trip (scheduled for Dec 16,2023)? What else can we do? We really don't know what to do at this point and we really don't want to miss the trip to Mexico. Any suggestions would be appreciated please!!
  22. Used the old people way, mailed my package out. It was received on Dec 2nd. Hopefully I'll get the NOA receipt very soon. Knock woods folks!
  23. Hi, I submitted my N-400 around a week ago, and when I got to the following question, I answered NO: 19. Did you EVER receive any type of military, paramilitary (a group of people who act like a military group but are not part of the official military), or weapons training? Yesterday I completed a concealed weapons license class. Would this change my answer? I haven't actually submitted the paperwork to the state yet. If it does change it, how do I proceed? Thank you!
  24. Heya, Came upon another snag whilst filling out the N400 during the section about employment. I need additional paper but is there a specific template for this additional sheet? The instructions don't specify what it's supposed to look like or not look like.
  25. Hi, I have a simple question regarding the N400, part 10, item 3: "How many times have you been married? (including annulled marriages, marriages to other people, and marriages to the same person)?" I'm tripping over the tense used in that sentence and I've only been married to the one person and that is my current spouse (US citizen). I'm overthinking it and i don't know whether i should answer 1 or 0? Bit of the background; I'm planning to file the N400 under the 3 year rule.
