Helping mother-in-law apply for US citizenship. However, it is asking for evidence regarding her grown adult children. Do I really need to submit this evidence? * her daughter (my wife) is already a US citizen * her other children are adults and they either are US citizens or live abroad And if so, what evidence do they need? Getting copies of birth certificates may be a hassle.

Hi everyone, I have a question and I appreciate anyone who could give me enlightenment and resolution to my problem. I have just applied for my N400. Without further consideration, I answered NO under question 23. Back story: I was cited for a civil traffic due to speeding. The officer suggested that I go to a traffic school to remove the ticket in my records. So I did. I submitted the ticket and payment to the traffic school and so I have not one single proof with me. I am very concerned because I just had my biometrics last week. I am very anxious that it will be the reason for my application to get denied. Please enlighten me.

Hi everyone, I am an EU citizen. When I travel back to my country, my flight has layover in Germany, Belgium etc, before I arrive to my home country. Do I need to list all of those stopping countries as the countries to which I traveled on the N400 application? I never entered those countries, but just because my flight stop by there. Thank you

Hi, We filed N400 for my mother (aged 83). Her biometrics appointment was done on Dec 22 ar Greer,SC. They had lot of difficulty to get her finger prints. They claimed it is common for older adults. They finished it and sent us home. Now, when we checked USCIS site, they sent another notice for new biometrics for Jan 11th. Did anyone of come across a situation like this. What can be done to get the scans go smooth ?

This might be an extremely naive question but I am hoping some of you can help answer some basic questions I have. To provide some background context, I am eligible for citizenship since I have been holding a green card since Jan 2019 (and married to a US spouse for 5 years) so I meet the requirement eligibility of A...As a spouse of a US Citizen, you can apply for citizenship 3 (three) years after approval of your Adjustment of Status. Your approval may be noted via any of the following: approval notice (I-797), on your passport (I-551 stamp and date), your green card ("resident since" date). The 3 year countdown begins with that date. Copy of the green card 2. Tax documents from last three years (filed Jointly) 3. My wife's birth certificate showing that she is a US citizen by birth 4. Her US passport scan 5. Our marriage certificate scan When I did my green card application, we basically submitted a ton of paperwork such as joint bank statements, proof of owning a house together, electric bills (showing joint payment etc). Looking at the N400 form, I dont see any mention of that or even when I search online or in the forum for what package people sent. Do I not need to worry about sending loads of documents this time (or is there a recommended list) I can refer to somewhere which will tell me what additional documents to submit. Thank you so much.

Well another year another month of N-400 submissions. This thread is for all of us that will be filing the N-400 in January 2023. Our window opens up January 3rd and we will be filing January 6th. Our ROC is still pending and was filed on January 6th 2022. Good work everyone getting to this point in your journey. Will post more once the N-400 has been filed on the 6th! Welcome to the thread!

Used the old people way, mailed my package out. It was received on Dec 2nd. Hopefully I'll get the NOA receipt very soon. Knock woods folks!

Have anybody recently had their N400 interview in the Centennial CO office? Are they doing same day Oath? My interview is on Jan 6th 2023

I'll try to be as detailed as I can I'm totally freaking out over here . Case History, All at DET center In a relationship with USC spouse for 4 years prior to marriage. (I was on DACA) Married in April 2016 Filed for AOS the next month. Interviewed and approved on the spot in September 2016 for AOS and received Conditional green card a few weeks later Marriage got rocky mid 2017 ultimately filed for divorce end of 2017, divorce finalized may 2018 Filed I751 August 2018 and then the long wait Met my current spouse in 2018 and was remarried at the end of 2018 (still married) Filed N400 this year in May after the 5years had elapsed Received first interview appointment for last October. After waiting in the lobby of the agent came out to let me know that they couldn't find my paperwork from my i-751 and that they couldn't proceed with the interview that day and they would reschedule it after they found my paperwork. Got a notice on October 31st of new interview date of December 5th and just had my interview yesterday. It was a combo interview i751 and N400 as the i751 had still been pending. The agent I had was a bit more stern than I had anticipated, however I tried to keep my cool and stick to what I knew. Issues I ran into: A page of my judgement of divorce was missing from my original file. Luckily I had read on here to make sure to have extra certified copies and I gave them one copy. Second issue and this would be the most pivotal. Midway through which you told me that he could not approve my i751. He still has a lot of questions to which I instantly told him I have even more proof of our relationship being bonafide. I brought a album of photos which showed our relationship from the very beginning when we were just dating. Much younger through marriage that show trips with family with each other, etc. He also asked if we owned any property. I told him we didn't. I did have extra copies of our lease agreements bills in both of our names, utilities, credit cards. She was listed as the primary beneficiary on my 401k. My life insurance we shared medical insurance as well through my workplace. I had records of all the trips we took together. Also had copies of letters from the state or address changes etc. Affidavits from some of our friends. In my paperwork and at the interview I did mention how we started clashing on religious beliefs. We both share the same religion but she chose to not actively practice and it caused clashes on how we planned to raise the kids we were trying to have and it led to other arguments etc. I assume this wasn't a good enough reason for the agent. Because after I showed him the photo album did state. Are you sure that it wasn't because you guys were too young and didn't understand how serious marriage was. To which I did mention we were very young. We got married. Not super young but early 20s and because of this we didn't understand a lot of things that I know now in life after therapy etc. Of our relationships change and how we can't expect them to be the same and then as I was getting ready to pull out more information, he said that's all right. Let's move forward with the n400. We went through the entire n400 at the end he told me that I have passed the n400 and he would be recommending me for naturalization pending the i751. On the paperwork that they gave me he did select that I was recommended for naturalization and not the section that says a decision can't be made at this moment. I don't know if this has any weight. I'm just confused because my 751 is of course still pending and I don't know if I gave him enough proof. I offered to leave it any extra documents that I have with him and he told me that he didn't need them and that the next steps after they make their decision would be the scheduling me for my oath ceremony. He went into detail about how I wouldn't receive a green card as what I would receive instead would be a notice of my schedule of ceremony. So I don't really know how it went. Hopefully somebody has some advice am I overthinking? It really caught me off guard when he told me that he wasn't going to approve my i751 during the interview. And I don't know if they normally continue the interview for the n400 if they can't prove the i751. Let alone give me the paper at the end recommending my naturalization. Has anyone been through something similar?

Hi, We filed N400 for my mother. It is most likely to be at Greer,SC. https://egov.uscis.gov/processing-times/ shows it as 16.5 months. Does it really take 16 months for interviews. Is it Covid backlog skewing the averages

I used the services of a tax preparer (H&R Block) to file my taxes for 2021, and after we completed my federal tax return the advisor informed me that I didn't need to file state taxes because I was under the reporting threshold (New Jersey). For the sake of being thorough before filing my N400 (regarding part 12 question 7: "Have you EVER not filed a Federal, state or local tax return since you became a lawful permanent resident?") I decided to check on state tax filing requirements just to be certain that I'm in good standing -- and found out that according to the NJ Division of Taxation website that my income for 2021 was over the reporting threshold. It seems this means that I should have filed a State Tax return for 2021, and I'm assuming the best course of action is to make sure my State Taxes get filed before proceeding with my N400. I'm going to get in touch with the preparer/office today to find out how to amend this ASAP before filing my N400 -- but I'm really stressing out about how this could affect my application even if I manage to get it filed late. Will I be in trouble with USCIS/immigration for not filing State Taxes on time even though I was told that I didn't have to/shouldn't by a tax advisor? Also once I do get this situation resolved and/or file my state taxes, does that then mean I can select "No" as my response to N400 part 12 question 7 because I will have filed all possible tax returns - even if one is late? hey guys my interview for N400 just scheduled on 7th this month and I went to online in account see the interview PDF file but it wasn't there so today on 8th its show up in account but whenever I open the file its just giving me error this {"data":null,"error":{"developerMessage":null,"userMessage":null}} anyone have this problem also and what should I do please advise and help me finally its been scheduled and now this thing. Hi All, I have a question, can the naturalization be expedited? Need it for application for secret clearance. Is there a way to do it? Have submitted n400 online and currently waiting. Have the receipt number starting with IOE which probably means that it is at NBC. I am assuming once NBC finishes their process they send it over to the FO for interview scheduling right?

Hi all I submitted my N400 application online today and got my receipt notice and biometrics notice reused pdf files online!!! still waiting for my lifting conditions application to progress beyond fingerprints reused 13 months after that status changed!!

I had my N400 interview approved in Chicago on 9/15/22, there was no same day oath available. I'm still waiting for my oath ceremony date. Curious to see how long you guys had to wait for your oath ceremony after the N400 interview in Chicago. My interviewer said I should receive a notice in 2 weeks, but it has been almost 4 weeks now and guess what... still nothing haha. Can't wait to get this over with since I need to make some travel plans. Many thanks!!

Hello, My wife filled her I751 in May of 2019 and filed her N400 in June of 2020. Her I751 is still not processed. Her initial 18 month extension expired. She was able to get a I551 stamp on her passport in February 2022 for 6 months. That expired end of August 2022. She called USCIS to get another 6 month stamp on August 2 which is within USCIS guidelines. She was told in 30 days, they will schedule an appointment at the Dallas USCIS office. After 30 days passed, she received an email from Dallas office notifying that they dont have any appointments. We tried multiple times to get an appointment but Dallas office keeps saying they dont have any appointments available. We even tried to get an emergency appointment but still received the same reply. We asked if a different office can stamp her passport and we were told it goes by zip code and there is no way to go to another office. We have out of country travel scheduled for October 21,2022 and November 5, 2022. At the moment, my wife does not have anything that says she is a permanent resident. Has anyone gone though something like this before?

Hi I had my first interview in Illinois in July where I passed the civics and English test, but informed the interview officer that I had moved to NJ 2 weeks ago (flew to IL for interview only) and that my current address was not in IL. The interview went very smoothly! Now today, almost 2.5 months later I received another interview letter for Newark Nj office. Is this normal? Cause for worry? Do I need to bring any additional evidence? Is this troublesome/ worrisome? I was just hoping to get an oath invite but instead this kind of freaks me out a lot. danke .

Hello! I had an interview for N400 at the beginning of July and officer asked to submit response to RFE that they issued that same day. As soon as I got home I submitted it and portal says “uscis has received the response“. is there any timeline I should expect next steps? It’s been >2 months now. I tried to submit e-request to uscis support but they say my case is within the timelines. Any ideas or recent experience with RFE for N400 in Seattle appreciated!

Can we literally send in a non-certified copy of a naturalization certificate?? ”You do not need to obtain a Certified True Copy if the U.S. government asks for a copy of your certificate for official U.S. government business.
