Our Story

  1. Hi everybody, my fiance and I applied for k1 2 years and a half ago were approved and interviewed. Everything went well but was put on administrative processing for months with no apparent reason (Canada). We have been ready to get married for over a year now not knowing that this was gonna take forever… i am currently on a visit in the US to see him and we just found out we are pregnant. We both want to marry asap not knowing how long this administrative black hole is gonna take, can we marry spontaneously right now, abandon the k1 and adjust status instead? I had no intent of marrying on this visit i’m simply here to watch his sports season just like every fall, as he’s a professional athlete. I’m aware it will take months but atleast we will be together during these times. Please share your experience or knowledge on the subject! Thank you!
  2. I recently moved next door from my parents house, and my address changed one number. I have no problem with my mail coming next door, since our mailboxes are together. Daily I receive photo emails from USPS of what is coming in the mail per day. So I'm not worried about not receiving anything from them. My question is, is it necessary for me to update it with USCIS right now while it's at the NVC? Will it prolong the process Or will it cause a denial if it's not updated? I do plan to update it once we file for the AOS, but prefer to wait until after the K1 interview, POE, & marriage.
  3. Hi all! My fiance, the petitioner, just found a pending charge for “visa processing” on their credit union from the USCIS. He had submitted the petition at the end of April 2023, got our NOA1, and fast-forward to 6 months later, is still waiting for the NOA2. It’s only October 2023 right now that we are waiting for the NOA2. Is this a sign that we should be preparing for the next steps for the NOA2? Or is it still too early and we should just wait? I really don’t know whether the pending charge means the officers are looking into our case or what…
  4. Hello...Welcome! For those who have just filed your I-129f application with USCIS, this thread has been created for your needs and for you to be with others experiencing different aspects of this journey. This is a place to ask questions and to share experiences. All are here to learn together. Stay patient because this is a long process currently running 12-16 months for your NOA2 or petition approval by USCIS (first stage). Then your petition will be sent to NVC which runs about 6-8 weeks processing (second stage) and finally your interview at the embassy (third stage). Also, do not compare yourself to others....Some will receive NOA-2 faster than others, some will be stuck at NVC for longer and then finally some will receive interviews fairly quickly at embassy. STAY PATIENT! Please create the timeline in your profile. Also note that USCIS goes by "Received date" : Example I-129 F Sent – August 14, 2023 I-129 F Received – August 16, 2023 (NOA-1) I-129 F - Notice Date – August 18, 2023 In this example your NOA-1 should be August 16th. This will help you fill out your timeline properly.
  5. My Case ID on the NVC tracker is showing ready status, but I can't complete this step on the website ustraveldocs to get the payment slip and to schedule the interview Can anyone help
  6. Does anyone have an idea on how often the embassy in Dominican Republic release interview dates for k1 fiancé visa??
  7. Hi guys, we recently got approved and are waiting for our interview date. We began looking at the required documentation for the interview and I was curious about a couple of things. First of all, I make well beyond the required amount to prove that I can support my beneficiary and have had full time work for the last 7+ years with the same company and live comfortably. That being said, my company was bought by a bigger company last year and the handlings of tax information between the two companies got mixed up. I basically was changed to an exempt filing without my knowledge for the last half of last year and due to this I owed a lot in taxes when I filed for 2022. I am on a payment plan as of now with the IRS and should have it paid off by the time our interview is. So my question is, when my fiance shows the interviewer my most recent tax transcript, will they be looking to see if I have back taxes that still need paying? or will they only be looking at my income from the transcript? Also, should I include some kind of receipt from the IRS that my tax debt is being paid off so I can prove that it won't be an issue? Sorry for the long post and thank you for anyone willing to answer
  8. Hi All, Our NOA2 was approved on 07/20/2023. We are preparing the documents for the interview checklist for the US Embassy in Manila. I have gone through the checklist on the site and have a question on the requirement to provide Proof of Relationship. I assume this is for proof of ongoing relationship, since proof of having been met within 2 years was already submitted as part of I-129F and approval of I-129F means this requirement is met. For Proof of Ongoing Relationship, will we need to provide similar evidence as what we submitted for the I-129F? Some photos of us together since the I-129F petition (I have visited my fiancé twice since NOA1) and a notarize Affidavit of Intent to Marry? Or will some photos suffice? Thank You
  9. Hi All, We got our NOA2 in 07/20/2023. I know we're not close to getting an interview scheduled for the embassy anytime soon, but wanted to prepare and be well informed before that time comes. I saw on the US Embassy Website for Manila that the Medical Exam has to be performed at a St. Luke’s Medical Center Extension Clinic (SLMCEC) that is located in Manila and the US Embassy where the interview is held also in Manila. On the Interview Check List for US Embassy in Manila it specifically states this "It is your responsibility to schedule a medical exam with St. Luke’s Medical Center Extension Clinic two weeks before your visa interview at the U.S. Embassy." Based off the wording if the visa interview is on August 30th, you should schedule no later for the medical exam on August 16th. I am wondering if anyone has gone against the guidelines and done it later? Scheduled medical less than 2 weeks from the interview date? Thank You
  10. Hi VJ fam, I travel extensively for work and I'm finalizing my projects within this month as we are getting closer to K1 finalization. I'm at interview scheduling phase and a slot just opened up at the Johannesburg consulate that I desperately want to book (and probably will be doing so after I write this post - so I am mostly looking for confirmation lol). My concern is that with work travel, I have to be available on short notice to travel to site and there is an off chance that I might need to reschedule my interview appointment - I know, I wish I didn't have prioritize work over being with my love (and waiting so long for this moment!), but sometimes this is unfortunately how the cookie crumbles, so please don't tell me "skip work, attend the interview". My question is - can I book the interview slot and consequently book my medical exam and say for example I have to reschedule the interview - will I be ok to reschedule my interview but still attend my medical appointment? I know this is probably consulate-specific but if you've experienced something like this or just have some wisdom to share, please do! Thank you!
  11. Currently in Thailand scheduled to return to states in mid-September. Baby is due in Jan 2024. My work rotation won’t allow me back in Thailand until March or April 2024. Already planning the consular birth report to get everything setup for citizenship/passport. Putting as much together that I’m aware of for impending applications. So should we wait until after the birth to apply for the K1? I think we even still have time to get married here (Thailand) if that helps. Looked at the Zoom Utah wedding too to try and understand if that’s an option. One concern with leaving unmarried is getting the birth legitimized in Thailand if we do wait and get married in the states. Birth certificates here mean very little in terms of if anything were to happen to the mother. And the visa situation is getting worse by the day as immigration is seriously cracking down on nearly every visa scheme which is why I’m worried to come back in as a tourist instead of applying for a marriage visa or at least showing immigration upon return that I plan on changing to a non-o visa based on marriage or Thai child. if we wait until after I will probably have to hire an attorney in Thailand to help facilitate as much as possible because of my work situation and other personal issues. is there a prep thread here for getting everything together for the application and subsequent requests for other docs? Thanks! And I’ll prob be floating in many threads from here out so if I post in the wrong category my bad 😂!!
  12. I thought it would be useful to post a review of my appointment at Visa Medicals in London on 4th August 2023. I found it hard to find recent ones and hopefully this'll calm someone else's nerves! I waited until I had my instructions letter from the embassy before calling to book my appointment. There was a relatively short wait on the phone (better than calling my GP) and I was offered an appointment within a few days. Forgetting that I was still waiting for a letter from my GP and that it was the weekend, I had to call and reschedule for later the same week. The lady on the phone laughed when I said I got over excited. I received a confirmation email with instructions like where it is, documents to bring and booking translators (if applicable) I arrived at Bond St very early. Killed a couple hours in Leon, found Bentinck Street and had a wander. My appointment was at 11:10am, pressed the buzzer at 11:05am. The email suggests a one in, one out situation. That isn't the case and is probably left over from COVID era. I was worried I was going to be told off for buzzing 5 minutes early, no one even spoke on the intercom, they just let me in. Visa Medicals is the first door on your right when you come in. The lady on reception asked for my name and 'all the documents we asked you to bring' which threw me a bit. It's probably a good idea to have everything ready to go in one bundle, not in well organised seperate sections of a folder like I did. I think I excepted the doctor to be asking for the reports and vaccination records, not the receptionist. This is what I gave over: My passport 4 US sized visa photos (Snappy Snaps can do US sized photos, it was ~£35 for 8 photos) A copy of my ACRO police certificate A copy of the first page of the instructions letter form the embassy with my LND number and visa category Summary care record from my GP Vaccination records from my GP COVID pass from the NHS app Hep B vaccination proof Medical questionairre A letter from my GP outlining past mental health issues, treatments and current mental health status (because I ticked yes to self harm) A discharge letter form a surgery I had in 2016 (because I ticked yes to hospitalization) Note, you do not get these back (except your passport) so make copies for your own records and keep the original ACRO and embassy letter for yourself. Here's how the email words the documents required: I was sent into the waiting room with two more yes/no questionairres to fill out. The first was very basic and asked questions related to allergies, steroids/immunosuppresants and pregnancy. Anything I ticked yes to, I put a note underneath explaining why. The second was more detailed (and very confusing because yes/no swapped places). These are the questions I can remember: Have you had an injury or illness that required hospitalization? Multiple questions on different types of heart/thyroid/kidney/liver diseases Have you ever taken recreational drugs? Multiple questions about substance abuse, related conditions and criminal record due to substance abuse Have you ever had thoughts of harming yourself? Have you ever acted on those thoughts? Have you ever had thoughts of harming others? Have you ever acted on those thoughts? Current medications (I also listed non-prescribed hayfever tablets and multivitamins) Any other medical conditions that required treatment? (I put yes - vitamin D deficiency, treated via daily supplements) Someone then called me through to take a chest x-ray. No need to remove my piercings (nipple included) and sent me back to the waiting room. A few minutes later a doctor called Michaela called me through. She was extremely friendly and I felt at ease with her. We discussed some of the questions I had ticked yes to like why I had surgery and what methods I used for self harm in the past. She repeated some of the questions to me directly, particularly about drug use and harming others. She told me that the US is very keen to ask these questions due to the availability of guns and the risk of gun violence. I had an additional report on my mental health from my last counsellor, so she took that from me as all evidence is good evidence. The rest of the exam was height, weight, vision, ears and mouth. Then I was asked to undress to underwear and socks and drape a gown over my lower half whilst on the bench. Here she took my blood pressure, took a blood sample for syphillis, listened to my heart and lungs, bent my knees around to check for pain and pressed different areas of my stomach. No urine sample was taken due to my age (27) and no past STDs. I have a scoliosis in my spine, which she noticed and asked if it caused back pain (it doesn't) and that was that. She sent me back into the waiting room while a nurse checked my vaccinations. I didn't need anything done as I'd had my DTaP booster at my GP recently and I'd already had Hep B vaccinations for work reasons in the past. They can do them for you but it may be cheaper to get them done elsewhere before your appointment. I paid and was given proof of vaccinations to use when I adjust status. All in all, nothing to worry about but I am glad I was prepared! Good luck to anyone going for their medical
  13. Hey there, I am from Ecuador and I have to choose one of the embassies for the interview. I have read that it can only be applied to the Guayaquil embassy and it's one of the most complicated for K1. Has anyone had the interview for the K1 in Quito? or Guayaquil? and can you tell me about your experience?
  14. First off I don't know if this should go into the Work Visa forum or here...please forgive me if wrong. Me (US Citizen) and my fiance (Honduran) have been together for almost 9 months now. We have been working on preparing our K1 Visa application (not submitted) when he got approved for a 6-month H2B work visa. He is now in the US working at the same job he worked at last Summer when we met. I have visited him twice in Honduras as well as the US. Some of his family and coworkers have told him that we could get married and he would be able to stay legally while paperwork is processed. I love him and would marry him today if it doesn't complicate or ruin any future chances of a green card. We want to get married while he is here on the H2B visa. Is this a bad idea? I have so many questions! 1. What would the process change to from the K1? 2. Could he travel back and forth (sick parent) at all back to Honduras during this time? Advice and suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
  15. Please How long does it take to get a visa interview for your k1 fiancé visa after the Ghana embassy has sent your foreign fiancé an email that we should book an interview, because there have been no available dates for 3weeks
  16. Hi guy June 5th my K1 petition got approved and i received the NOA2 June 11th, are me and my partner right in thinking that we now need to wait for the NVC to send us our case number? We are getting a little concerned about not receiving or heard anything from them yet and i want to get on with filling out my DS-160 which i cannot do without the case number. I have looked around the site for info on this but there appears to be quite outdated/conflicting information. Does anyone know anything from recent history about this section of the process? Thanks in advance guys. Ps. We are using the UK embassy if that changes anything
  17. Hello, We're getting ready to submit our AOS paperwork however even after thoroughly reading the instruction pages, we still wanted to double check/clarify a few things. Any input on any of the questions would be highly appreciated! On the I-485 AOS form, I just want to confirm that the K1 visa IS subject to the public charge ground of inadmissibility under INA section 212(a)(4) - (pt. 8 #61). I believe I choose yes which then brings me to #62. #62 - I am using my brother as a joint sponsor for my wife's petition since I don't have an income however my brother and I don't live together - would he still be considered in our household? #63 - Do I include his full income in our annual household income? #64 - Should we share my wife's savings account information as an asset (do we provide bank statement as proof?) #65 - would car insurance be considered a liability? We're living rent free with my cousin for now so we're unsure whether to include any liabilities On form I-864 Affidavit of Support, (pt. 7 #6- use of assets to supplement income) Should I add my wife's checking/savings info when it asks "Assets of the principle sponsored immigrant?" For reference, my brother as a joint sponsor will be filling out his own I-864 so he wouldn't need to fill this part out being that he exceeds the federal poverty guideline, however I will add my minimal assets, but I'm wondering if I should add my wife's savings account to both our I-864 forms. I don't believe I need the I-765 worksheet for K1 family visa however I wanted to verify that as well. Thank you in advance and good luck everyone!!!
  18. Hello everyone I arrived in the US on a K1 visa on 5/15 and married my fiancé on 6/23 we are organizing all the AOS paperwork to send it in the next few weeks. My fiancé was just offered a promotion at a new company and would start in 1 month from now if he accepts (at both his current and new job he would earn above +125% of the poverty line). - Do you guys think it can be a problem that it is a new job? - Is it better to send the i-864 with the information about his new job or send the i-864 with his current job? - What kind of evidence can we include? We can get a letter of employment but we would have at most 1 paystub from his new job, we also have the tax transcript for the last 3 years. Thank you very much.
  19. Hey everyone, It looks like a lot of us are all in the same boat waiting for appointments at the Ankara, Turkey Embassy. We all get the same message "There are no available appointments at this time." I wanted to start this thread to share tips, updates, and let everyone know when I find an appointment available in hopes of helping others. Best of luck to everyone,
  20. Hello, I have a quick question - my wife is filing for her AOS and we're a bit confused with the I-864 forms. I have been unemployed for a few years so we're getting my brother to sponsor her. Since I am the one who petioned and brought her here, I thought I still had to sponsor her and fill out I-864, and my brother would fill out I-864a as a household member. However in part 1, question #1 of I-864 it asks if "I am the petitioner. I filed or am filing for the immigration of my relative" (1a) which I assumed was the correct box to check off, but I see there's an option to check "second of two joint sponsors" (1e). -Does anyone know which one would be the correct one? And if my brother would need to fill out I-864 or I-864a? I really appreciate your help in advance and good luck to everyone with their journey!
  21. Hello, I am the petitioner for my fiance k1 visa and we have an Interview appointment at the Guangzhou Embassy in August. We submitted the Ds-160 a month ago. Due to unfortunate situation I've had to change my permanent address. I've moved to a new house in the same town. My affidavit of support will contain my new address. The DS-160 has my old address. Do I need to update the DS-160, submit, print the confirmation and send again? -Matt
  22. Hello! I'm wondering if there's any K1 beneficiary here from Brazil that instead of going through the medical exam in Rio, chose to do it in São Paulo? What was your experience? Can all the exams and the medical appointment be made in a single day contrary to Rio that asks for the exams beforehand? And how long does the doctor take to send the results to the embassy in Rio? Do we need to go back to the doctor's office and retrieve anything to take with us for the interview? I ask because I'm closer to São Paulo so it would save me time and money to go through it there instead of Rio. I searched VJ and only found one person that did that, but it was for EB-2 visa. I wonder if it's the same for São Paulo. I also already emailed the SP doctor to ask, just waiting on a reply. Thank you!
  23. Hello everyone, Recently had our interview and were given a 221g to submit a document and the passport. We've since sent the document and the passport to the consulate (and it has been received by them) Any idea on how long they usually take to process? And where we could track this? We don't want to be waiting for months as we've given the passport alongside the document that was requested. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
  24. Hi All, I'm filling out the I-134 for the K! Visa's affidavit of support, and when it comes to the income section for the sponsor on page 6, #14 -- https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/i-134.pdf, I'm trying to figure out what the correct information is to put in. For example, I assume it's asking for my current income, but I'm not sure how to distinguish that from the money that I'd be giving to the beneficiary. For example, let's say my full income were $100,000. Would I say: Full Name (Sponsor) - Date of Birth - Self - $80,000. Full Name (Sponsor) - Date of Birth - Self - Income Contribution to Beneficiary - $20,000 then for total income, at the bottom, write $100,000? Thanks!
  25. Hey my k1 visa recently got accepted, when I first out in the k1 visa we got a letter saying our payment got accepted along with a receipt. Should I have kept this paper or is it not required?
