Our Story

  1. Hi everyone, My husband and I moved 15 days ago and we updated his address on his USCIS profile the day after we moved. However, we do not have any pending cases currently since his ROC won’t be until next year. When we updated it, the portal with “View my Submissions” showed “request changed” with a green check mark and a confirmation number but he did not receive a confirmation email. Also, I mailed my I-865 in about two weeks ago, so way before my 30 day deadline as sponsor. So it’s been 15 days and when I chat with Emma she always prompted us to wait. Since it’s been that long, I chatted with her and then used the egov site to file an electronic AR-11 (I guess it’s a different system but the same as the one on MyUSCIS) for my husband for his new address. He then got a confirmation email immediately. Will this be a problem since we did file on his My USCIS the day after we moved but then we had to file using the other service after 15 days since it didn’t seem to work on the online profile? Will this cause issues for us? Or are we covered because we originally did everything before the 10 days for him and the 30 days for me as the sponsor? thank you for any help!
  2. Hello members, we have just received our entry visa, category F2A, The detail is that, I am about to pay the immigrant fee so that once we enter they start producing the green card of one, but the person who asks us has changed address and I would like to know if I have to write to uscis before paying or how? thanks.
  3. I need to travel out of US in a couple of days. But I can't find my conditional Green card. The conditional GC expired 2 years ago but I have the extension letter as my petition for removal of conditions is still processing. Would I be able to get back into the US, or will I have any trouble?
  4. Hello all, My spouse is scheduled to enter stateside shortly after obtaining her CR-1 visa. However, due to my upcoming move, she will be arriving at a new address (same state - NJ) and I was wondering what is the best way to document the same with the USCIS? I have used my current address across all forms and have requested the SSN, GC to be sent to my current address as well. I want to make sure the SSN and the GC dont get delayed due to this impending change. I read somewhere that a change can be requested at the port of entry (POE). Is that accurate? If yes, what additional details will I need to provide to the immigration officer? If no, do I have to submit an AR-11? Any other options that I need to consider? TIA for your timely assistance.
  5. Hello, I got a question. My 2 years conditional Greencard will expires on April 2024. Can I travel to outside USA before my Greencard expires, let's say I will be traveling outside US on March 2024 for weeks. I will be still coming back before the expiration date? Thank you
  6. Hi everyone. My husband's CR1 recently got approved. Our second year of marriage will complete next month on the 9th of August. I was wondering that should he delay him coming to the US after the USA after 9th of August so that he gets 10 year greencard rather than 2 and we wont have to go through the hassle of removing conditions for him. One more thing is he travels after the 9th of August and at the port of entry should we tell the immigration officer to stamp him 10 year greencard rather than 2 or they will do it themselves? and Should he carry the original marriage certificate with him?
  7. Hello all, I am in the process of helping my parents submit their CEAC application for green card through me since I am now a naturalized US citizen. My parents both completed mandatory military service in Poland but never actually served in the military, received weapon training or basic training. They just completed their 2 years and that is all. They do have a "military card" that basically just has their information and completion of this mandatory requirement. One of the questions on the CEAC application asks about prior military service and if you answer "YES" then it asks further about branch of service, rank etc- all are things that do not apply and cannot be answered as their never served in any official capacity. Just wondering if anyone else has had similar situations or can give any advice. Any help is appreciated.
  8. Hello! My sister-in-law is petitioning for her parents to come to the USA and both I-130 applications have been approved (parents live abroad). We have decided to continue with her mother's process as her dad's case hasn't been created at NVC yet. She made around $30k this year which is enough for her to file an affidavit by herself. However we're not sure if she would need a co-sponsor when we she files an affidavit for her father. We're willing to help as we live in the same household. We made $38k this year plus have a house, bank accounts etc. Should we let her file only her as a sponsor for her mom and then add ourselves as co-sponsors for her father?
  9. Hello all, this is my first time writing in this forum. I was searching if there were any April 2023 filers, but couldn't find any. If there's one. please feel free to close this and direct me to it so we don't duplicate topics. I submitted in 28th of April 2023 and got a text that it was received on the 1st of May. Still waiting for the mail and so far no updates yet. I am new to this so lets se what happens next :). I know this would be a long journey so it would be great to not have to go through it alone!
  10. Hey Visa Journey! It's been a while but I'm at the stage where now being a U.S. citizen I'll be sponsoring my mother who lives in Canada for her Greencard. I'm well aware of the time frame it would take for her to become legal, roughly 12-13 months on average. My concern is for one of my sisters. She will be turning 18 this July. If my mom files an I-130 petition for my sister as soon as she is approved for her Greencard should my sister still qualify to not have aged out? I was going to put my mothers application in from last year but she wasn't ready to start the process. When exactly does the clock begin in this case? If the petition is submitted say when she is 19 or 20 what happens? Answers would be greatly appreciated!
  11. For context: my husband's 10-yr GC is expiring in June and the actual GC was also lost (we have a police report). He is eligible for N-400. We are moving in June from CA to FL. He will also need a new DL (the CA DL is also expiring the same day of the GC). We are planning on traveling in July-Aug outside of US. It seems that we cannot just apply for N-400. We are filing the I-90 online so he will be able to get an I-553 stamp. Some questions about the I-90 online application: 1 - Class of admission. Since the GC is lost we cannot verify there. The 2 years GC had CR6 so I think the lost GC had IR6. What should we do? Do we need to put some extra effort to find out for sure or is it good enough to guess IR6? 2 - "Where did you apply for your immigrant visa or adjustment of status?". Is "USCIS California Service center" good enough? 3 - "Where was your immigrant visa or adjustment of status granted?". Where do we find this info? The card arrived attach on a card that we still have that has his A number and card number. It says "USCIS National Customer Service Center". Is it what we need to put here? 4 - There are 2 steps asking for a picture ID: the GC (both sides) and a generic photo ID. Can we use his DL for both and upload the the picture of the DL twice? 5 - Since we are moving, doI we need to be concern about something except update our location after we move? Thank you in advance!
  12. Hi Everyone. I need help please my GC expires on June 2023 and I renewed it 6 months before December 2022, this March I got approved and card was produced. But USPS couldn’t find my documents it’s been 10 days now and still thay didn’t find my package containing my GC. Now I’m super worried we have a family vacation this coming April to August 2023 and I don’t know what to do anymore. Pls help me
  13. Hi! My husband and I are looking at the CR-1 process and there might be a huge obstacle for us. As I understand, it is required to provide police clearance certificates from the countries where I resided before. In my case, I need to get a certificate from China and Cambodia as I spent over a year in both of these countries within the past five years . Generally speaking, it is nearly impossible to get these certificates since I do not reside in these countries anymore. These countries' embassies do not provide this document. In case with China, even if I go there, which would be a huge additional expense to the process that's already costly, there is a big chance that I won't be able to get the certificate. I might be able to find an agency that can get me the certificate from Cambodia but it would take months. The question is: What if I am unable to provide police clearance certificate from the countries where I lived in the past five years? Would it mean that there is no way that I can apply for a Green Card through the consular process? Maybe someone on this forum had a similar problem. Any advice or suggestion is highly appreciated.
  14. Hi, I am Lotiza. I am a spouse of green card holder. We plan to file i485 and i130 concurrently. However, I found out that it is not possible to file since he becomes citizen. Is that right?
  15. Hi! I am writing this with a lot of anxiety and stress as my husband and I we are in NVC stage and I as the beneficiary I have a criminal record of minor theft, this was 7 years ago. I was a first offender and had clean record. This is the only offense committed and I had done restitution during my court hearing & attended all my hearings until the verdict was announced. I have not committed any other crime ever since then and have been clean. I was given a 5 years probation in 2017 and it has completed. I will be going to get my police clearance done soon, i am not sure if it’ll show on the clearance or not but I choose not to lie. What I would like to know is that if this will affect our NVC stage from being DQ’d or approved. Your advice and feedback will truly calm my nerves down. Thank you in advance.
  16. Hello, I'm J1 visa holder, my last day of the internship will be May 5, 2023, I'm subject to 2 years of residence in my country, so I'm applying to the J1 Waiver, my embassy just sent my No objection letter to the State Department. I'm also will get married. These are my questions: Should I get married before my J1 visa expired or can I get married during my 30 days grace period of the J1 visa? Can I apply right away when I get married, and apply for AOS (adjustment of status)? Do I need to leave the country or can I stay while I apply during the 30 days grace period?
  17. Hey everyone, My ROC application is still pending and I have the 24 months extension letter, how can I get the new 48 months extension letter? Can we apply for it or do they send it automatically?
  18. Hello, I am filing for AOS for my husband which I brought to the US on K1 visa. I am trying to complete the I-864 as the sponsor. I have a question however, I just started working in January, this is my first job since my last one two years ago. My job from two years ago doesn’t meet the requirement, but my current job does. I make enough to sponsor him but I do not have any tax returns for this job since I just started. I have two or three pay stubs and that’s about all. Should I make a joint sponsor or can I be able to sponsor my husband with an employers letter and pay stubs plus whatever tax returns (which do not qualify) I had prior?
  19. Hi everyone, I'm US citizen and my fiancé is Canadian H1B visa holder, we plan to get marry in September and start the green card process asap. I have a few questions, hoping someone can clarify. We are currently in 2 different states due to work (CO and MN) but I will move to MN by end of this year or early next year at the latest. All these questions mostly for if we file before the move happens: 1. Do we use different addresses or should we use just the MN one? Will either scenario cause any problems later on? 2. We will file I-130, I-485, I-765 (I'm not 100% sure, but I think this is the EAD) and advance parole together. In that case, can we leave the US before getting advance parole or will we have to wait? Does filing for EAD affect his H1B status? 3. If we file immediately after getting married, does it look suspicious to USCIS? 4. When will I have to file Affidavit of Support (This is the income proof, right?), as well as other proof of our marriage? I'm worried that if we file before the year ends & have to send those at the beginning, we won't have proof of tax joint. We are currently living apart so we have very limited proof (no joint lease nor tax), mostly just health insurance and joined bank account. Thank you in advance for your help
  20. Hello! Me (29, Germany) and my fiance (26, US citizen) are in the process of getting the K1. I have a question regarding the financial requirements when it's time to file the I-485. We are meeting the requirements but it's tight so we are only a few thousand over the requirements which are 125% of poverty line. When the K1 is done and I go to the US to marry him and we file the I-485 and fill out the affidavit of support and everything is good but then it maybe takes two years to actually get the interview and maybe something bad happens by then, like losing a job or whatever and then it puts us slightly under 125% of the poverty line, would I then get my green card denied and would need to leave the country? In simpler words, even if we meet the requirements when filing I-485, could they still deny us bc years later when there is finally the interview, we experience financial hardships of any kind? In case you are wondering why I'm asking, I just have a problem with worrying a lot in general.
  21. Hi; Our family applied i-131, Travel Document, re-entry permit based on permanent resident applying for a re-entry permit on October 2021. And then, last week February 21, 2023, I-131 Case Was Denied. What can we do? Can we reopen and USCIS reconsider our I-131, again? We did not revive a denial notice by letter yet. We had greencard since March 2021, and applied I-131 on October 2021. USCIS revived a fee on December 2021. We received I-797C, and had finger print on April, 2022. Best Regards; -H. Yasu
  22. Hello, I have a 10 year green card since 2015 - I was 22 years old at the time and just graduated from a UK university and have been living and working in the UK since (didn't file any tax returns which is really bad and I think will work against me). I have entered the US in 2015 to get my green card but left after a few weeks. I have also entered the US in 2020 before Covid hits to visit my sister (the CBP did ask me why I was gone for so long and gave me a warning but lets me through). I was there for around a month before leaving for the UK. I have tried applying for jobs in the US throughout these years but didn't manage to get any offers let alone any interviews. However, I started applying to jobs in the US recently and have been getting interviews and I think I'm close to getting a job offer. I want to ask if I manage to get a US job offer and fly to the US with my green card, will there be a high chance that CBP will deemed that I have abandoned my LPR and issue me with a notice to appear before an immigration judge? If so, what do you think are the chances of the judge deeming that I have abandoned my LPR? Thank you very much for your help.

  24. Hi, my spouse and I had our immigration interview 2 years ago when I did AOS here in the USA, we both attended the interview and GC was approved on the spot. I have sent my ROC already and I've read that an interview is required, again?
  25. I am a Conditional Green Card holder and my Green Card was expired 3 years ago. I am divorced and I never filed I-751. I spent a year in U.S. I am living my home country but now want to return back U.S. My stay outside was due to abusive marriage and health problems. I didn't know U.S. immigration laws until now. What are my options?
