Our Story

  1. Hello how long doest take for interview? We wer dq feb 2023?
  2. Hi everyone! So my husband and I got our NOA2 and we are super excited! So now we are prepping for the NVC stage even though we know there will be some time between NVC receiving our case and everything we need to do. For the Police certificate from South Korea, is there an expiration date? I can’t find one on the US document equivalent website besides two years and the Korean police certificate does not have an expiration on it according to the Police station my husband called that can issue it in his city in Korea. anyone who completed the NVC stage for South Korea have a list of documents needed? Or any info about the police certificate validity period? any help is appreciated! thank you!
  3. Hello! My husband has submitted his DS-260 and booked his medical exam. He has been attempting to book his interview in London but is continually met with the "no available appointments" message. We are wondering how long it typically takes before visa interview appointments become available? Does the Embassy post new interview availability or just openings from cancellations? Is there a limit to how often you can check the interview appointment availability? Thank you!
  4. Here is what happened during my wife and child interview at USA consulate in Vietnam: Husband is petitioner & USC; wife and daughter immigrating from Vietnam. After waiting….Went to the first heavily glassed window where we provided original birth, marriage cert and divorce documents and police certificate. No other originals or copies were provided despite what they asked for on website prior to interview. We spoke into a microphone when she asked both of us: What is your address in America? Wife responded Michigan, I responded with exact address. Asked wife: Have you had problems with police? Asked wife: How many children have we both had? Asked wife: How many times have you been divorced? Ater waiting we went to a Second glass window for the formal interview by two interviewers. Speaking into microphone. Asked wife: Where did we meet? And when? Asked wife: How many times divorced? Asked wife: How many times I (husband) go and come to Vietnam? Ask wife: What’s his (husband) job? Ask wife: Was your (husband’s) first wife from Vietnam or different country? Asked both of us separately in different languages: Where does he/you (husband) live now? Interviewer Paused….And then stated Congratulations your approved. Note: total time approximately 5 hours. Visas arrived 5 days later. I hope this helps.
  5. I 130 (standalone) I applied for an expedite today and was denied within 7 hours of the request . My husband and child are in Khartoum sudan . In the middle of the conflict with no water ,power ,or food for 3 days . Bombs and war planes ... Gunfire... And the death tole rising . I have never been so upset in my life . But we don't meet the criteria 😭
  6. I was married on a K1 visa but had to leave the US after the wedding in May 2022 due to my PhD program in the UK (again I want to thank all these people who helped me on VJ!). Currently, we are applying for the CR-1 visa and filed the I130 online in November 2022. I will be completing my PhD by the end of 2023 and have plans to pursue a NIH postdoctoral fellowship in the US. However, the fellowship requires a permanent residence status, which means I must obtain the visa by the end of 2023 or early 2024 to not lose this opportunity. Our service center for the visa is Vermont, and the average processing time is 14 months. Is it possible to get the visa before January 2024? If not, are there ways to expedite the process? I've read about "financial loss" as one of the possible reasons to make an expedite request, but not sure if I can make a strong case for it. Thank you for your help!
  7. I'm starting to see very confusing information and it worries me. On our petition we indicated Chennai as our embassy (beneficiary lives in Chennai so this made sense). Now I'm starting to see that only Mumbai handles family-based immigration cases. Does that mean that I need to update our petition or potentially transfer our case to the Mumbai consulate when we get to the NVC stage?😖😣 Does Chennai not handle family-based visas?
  8. Hi everyone, I am a Dutch national and spouse of a US citizen and we both live in the Netherlands since July 2021. My partner is actively applying to jobs in the US. We would like to move to the US and apply for a CR1 visa for me, we want to submit our I-130 and get the process started. However, we don't know whether it is best to file the I-130 directly with USCIS and wait about 1,5 years or wait until my partner actually has a job offer and then file as DCF. If we do it the regular way and file through USCIS it is not much use for my partner to continue applying for US-based jobs since we would have to be apart for too long; we are also trying to start a family in this time-frame. In that case it would just be best to wait for 1,5 years until my CR1 visa is approved. My wife has a good career and I think her chances are pretty high to land a job in the short term, it would also be best for her career if she got a job in the US. However, the US consulate in Amsterdam doesn't seem to process DCF requests: they are unresponsive by email due to severe understaffing, they have no phone number, on their website they only mention sending the I-130 to the US lockbox for US nationals resident in the Netherlands, and on the internet I could find no one who has done DCF through the consulate in Amsterdam. However, the US consulate in Frankfurt seems to be handling many DCF requests, and I also read the following on their website: "Individuals who were previously assisted by the USCIS Frankfurt Field Office (which includes individuals residing in Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and Liechtenstein) must follow these filing instructions." I was wondering if there are people here who are not resident in Germany but were assisted by the Frankfurt consulate with their DCF request? We really are in a dilemma right now whether to do regular USCIS filing and just wait; or take a chance, my wife applying for US jobs, and then see whether we can file for DCF in Frankfurt instead.
  9. This question is also for other Filipinos who got married in other places and registered in other country. hi! Me and my fiance will be getting married this April 28 here in Singapore (under Registration of Marriage in SIngapore) . Just a question do we need to register with the Philippine Embassy? or the Marriage Certificate in SIngapore would be enough? Thank you!
  10. Hello, First post here but I've found helpful insights here so far and appreciate that! I am a US citizen with a Russian wife currently living in Tbilisi, Georgia on visa-free status (so no residency status). A decision on our pending I-130 is expected at the end of April (1 month from now). Like many others, we hope to avoid Interviewing in Poland due to the logistical headache. My thought it to quickly apply for digital nomad visas in the Bahamas or Croatia and have my russian wife apply as a dependent. My understanding is that these 1 year+ visas are actually resident permits thus allowing us to transfer our interview there hassle-free. Has anyone transferred away from Poland through a nomad visa or other temporary residency program? I am assuming an embassy could not turn us away if we hold temporary residency in that country, is that true?
  11. Hi all, apologies if this question has been asked previously - I couldn't seem to find any information on it. My fiancé and I are planning on getting married in June. She is a US citizen and I am a UK citizen. I will be on an ESTA. I was just wondering if there are any rules/recommendations about getting married and then me staying with her for a couple of months. I am not planning to stay permanently, but I have an opportunity to stay for a couple of months. So my question is can we file the petition whilst I am there and can I then stay there for a couple months after filing? Or will I have to be in the UK to file the petition? Thanks!!
  12. I'm stuck in a job that's crushing my spirit and pays me next to nothing, and i finally have enough money to afford a two way ticket and an esta application. I really want to just drop everything and visit my partner in the US for two months with an ESTA. he suggested we could get married during my stay. Would this be okay ? We're just wondering if it's a possibility to be able to apply and be together sooner. Thank you for replies.
  13. Hi! I am writing this with a lot of anxiety and stress as my husband and I we are in NVC stage and I as the beneficiary I have a criminal record of minor theft, this was 7 years ago. I was a first offender and had clean record. This is the only offense committed and I had done restitution during my court hearing & attended all my hearings until the verdict was announced. I have not committed any other crime ever since then and have been clean. I was given a 5 years probation in 2017 and it has completed. I will be going to get my police clearance done soon, i am not sure if it’ll show on the clearance or not but I choose not to lie. What I would like to know is that if this will affect our NVC stage from being DQ’d or approved. Your advice and feedback will truly calm my nerves down. Thank you in advance.
  14. Hello! I’m currently waiting for the NVC to schedule my interview. My case is documentarily complete and just pending for the interview date. It has been 2 months since my case became docuemntarily complete. How long is it taking for the Tegucigalpa consulate to schedule CR1 appointments? How long did you had to wait in your case? Thanks!
  15. Hello, my husband recently got DQ’d for his CR1 visa. His embassy is Abu Dhabi. He also recently got a job offer for residency in the US as he is a doctor and he is due to start in July 2023. What is the procedure and is this job offer sufficient means to expedite his case? If any one has any insight on this expedite procedure please do share. Thank you in advance!
  16. Hi, I just found out about this website through Reddit and they said it was a great help when looking to get a GC for a spouse. I have a question and I’m hoping someone can help me out. So I want to marry someone I’m pretty serious about and being her to the US. We’re both currently in Korea, Im active duty military stationed here while she is originally from Mongolian and has been in Korea off of a Visa. So if we get married here in Korea and not in Mogolia, does anyone know how this will affect our CR-1 process? Please any information will help. Thank you!
  17. Any comments about your expedite requests experiences appreciated here! I have submitted numerous expedite requests. About (6) so far. The last two have been send and responded with an answer on the same day. They have came back the same day advising they “sent my case to consulate” and my case cannot be expedited. Are these automated messages? How can they possibly send my case to consulate and determine it cannot be expedited on the same exact date I send the request?
  18. Hello, I have been searching the forums here but have not seen any timelines for 2023 at the Cairo Embassy for CR-1 Visas. What are the waiting times after DQ looking like in 2023? Does anybody know. From what I have seen in 2022 it’s around 5 months. Has it sped up? If anyone has any information on that please let us know.
  19. Good evening everyone. Has anyone heard what the approximate wait time from DQ to IL is for South Africa? Thank you.
  20. I have seen my wife just ones and we got married 3weeks later, she's has not come to see because she can't take off from work and travelling is too expensive for now, is it enough for the embassy to grants the visa thanks
  21. Hello Group, Seeking advice for our 2nd interview, our situation and their request for a co-sponsor which I can't get but also think we don't need one but want to ask Visa Journeys opinion because we don't want to have to wait until a 3rd interview. So first interview we were told that we need to get a co-sponsor but I believe that was because of 3 mistakes that were made. 1)First mistake was our household # was 3 instead of just 2 and my affidavit of support income is for two people, not 3. I'm a small business owner and my net income reported was $24,500 + a new job in 2022 which leads into mistake 2. 2) Forgot to provide evidence/copies of new, job paychecks. Annual income for new job is $32,000. 3) IRS did an adjustment on my 2021 taxes and increased my net income to $26,500 due to an error by my accountant. So my affidavit of support numbers for 2021 is $26,500(business income) + new job of $32,000 for 2022 + business income. They also want 2020 taxes but I lived in Ecuador for 10-12 months of this year due to Covid, so didn't meet minimum requirements that year. Hopefully they will understand and know that Covid slowed thousands of businesses. All of our marriage evidence seemed to be approved. They said my income was to low and on the blue form, checked off we needing a co-sponsor and few other easy, fixable tasks. I'm from a very small family and waited an half year to submit my affidavit of support to have enough business profit and also got a w-2 job. Before waiting the 6 months, I researched the co-sponsor possibility amongst my family and friends and no one was warm to the idea. Million dollar question for 2nd interview. With the mistakes corrected, additional income evidence which was in our online profile but the Ecuador embassy doesn't appear to have access too, new tax increase and my wife now having the experience to possible better explain affidavit of support concerns, would you recommend trying the 2nd interview again without a co-sponsor? Also my wife said her first interviewer was a lady and was very catty with her. Even made a couple sarcastic comments. So hopefully next interview, she gets someone that's more professional in their job. One more thing about our relationship, we do have an age difference but as I mentioned, they seemed to be good with our bona-fide marriage evidence, just not the income. Thanks for all and any advice.
  22. Hi, new member here. My fiance is Thai but lives and holds residency in the Faroe Islands. Faroe is an autonomous region within the Kingdom of Denmark however it not part of the EU. She has to get a Schengen Visa to travel to anywhere in Europe including Copenhagen where the US and Thai embassies are located. We are both in our 60's so naturally want to be together as much as possible and a delay in getting a GC for work purposes is not a problem. From reading on this site the current wait times between K1 and CR1 seem about the same and most suggest the CR1. I can travel to her and get married but it will probably be a couple of months to arrange that. Of course I can start the K1 process now. She also has a B2 visa for the US as of last year and visited here last year for the first time. She has no family in Faroe but she has 2 adult children and grand children in the US. I feel like once we start the visa process she will not be able to travel to the US because of strong ties here and very weak ties in Faroe. As with most people on here we just want to be together. Any insight or suggestions are appreciated.
  23. Me and my fiance are planning to get a married via proxy (Utah Remote marriage) and we want to get a prenup before doing that, is it possible to sign a prenup using a proxy while living outside the country and being a foreigner ? I live in Morocco. Thanks for advices
  24. I’m USA citizen originally from Pakistan. I got engaged to Pakistani girl in Pakistan. Should I apply her K1 visa now or get married in Pakistan and apply for spousal visa? I can get married in pakistan but for Pakistanis there is too much back log for spouse visas. The Islamabad embassy is currently send interviews for those with DQ May 2021. So I’m estimating it would take 3-4 years. Will K1 visa processing be any faster? Should it be wise that I apply for K1 visa and postpone the marriage? Any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks.
  25. We filed for a CR1 spousal visa on Dec 31 2021. On June 14 2022, we received a case update. USCIS was actively reviewing it. We have been in limbo ever since, until now. When I checked for case updates, it now states they are actively reviewing our case since...February 23 2023...instead of June 14 2022. The message is exactly the same, but they changed the date. Does anyone have experience with this? Did our case slip through the cracks and did they suddenly find it again?
