Our Story

  1. Hi I had my first interview in Illinois in July where I passed the civics and English test, but informed the interview officer that I had moved to NJ 2 weeks ago (flew to IL for interview only) and that my current address was not in IL. The interview went very smoothly! Now today, almost 2.5 months later I received another interview letter for Newark Nj office. Is this normal? Cause for worry? Do I need to bring any additional evidence? Is this troublesome/ worrisome? I was just hoping to get an oath invite but instead this kind of freaks me out a lot. danke .
  2. I was wondering if there is anyone here who has been through their naturalization ceremony lately and whether there were any restrictions on who you could bring with you? I know that you used to be able to bring anyone but that was pre-COVID and I'm not sure what the restrictions are now. I was hoping to bring my wife. The more recent your experiences the better. Thanks.
  3. Hello everyone, My conditional green has been extended for 24months and will expire on 3/20/2023. I have applied for the ROC but have not got any update since the last noticr is “ready to schedule for an interview”. I have been a resident since 2019 and been on my 3rd year March of 2022. Can I now apply for citizenship without ROC approved yet / 10 years green card? Thank you for the response.
  4. My wife's GC will expire in 2 months. She is eligible for applying Citizenship per the eligibility questionnaire in the USCIS website. Also she will be changing the job and moving to a different state on the month GC expires. Should i apply for GC renewal or apply for Citizenship? If i apply for Citizenship , can she use the acknowledgement document(I979C notice for DL renewal and for employment )? Any advice ?
  5. Hello Everyone on Visa Journey, My immigration Journey - Entered USA February 2017 on a F2B visa with minor child who is now 21 years old. - Submitted N400 application online April 2022 - May 2022 Biometrics was done - August interview is scheduled - I have no criminal history in the USA or my home country - Never travel outside the USA -Filed taxes 2018, 2019, 2020,2021 and 2022 - Selective service is not applicable to me I would like to know besides my green Card, drivers license and passport what other document should I take to the interview because the letter that i received did not state anything else. Thank you for your time
  6. So I was interviewed for my naturalisation 9 days prior. The officer said he can’t make a decision on it as my I-751 filing is stuck in Nebraska. He said he will request for it. The officer didn’t hand me my paper showing I passed the English and civics test. I requested for it and then he handed it to me. He marked the box that I passed, BUT he accidentally marked the box for “Follow instructions on Form-N14, request for additional information, Documents, and Forms”. The officer did NOT hand me form N-14, nor did he say I needed anything else. He said I was very passable and will approve my I-751 once he receives it. He marked the wrong box! What shall I do? Will this slow down my case? Shall I book an infopass appointment? I’m just so so worried. Part of me thinks its malice as he didn’t even hand me the paper until I asked. Advice please!
  7. Hi beautiful people. I know this may sound absurd but my husband and I have been informally separated and did not get a divorce. We have no ties together and have been living separately for three years. Can I still file for naturalization and be approved? Please, anyone, share your experience. Thank you.. Side note: my husband is aware that I need to file... and will sign any document if he needs to. He has hope of us getting back together but thats a big no no.. S
  8. Hello, I would like to know my status towards the United States of America as a 23 year old young man, born in France to a French mother and a father with dual citizenship, French and American, but who has never lived on American territory, otherwise he has an American mother, my grandmother who lived there for decades. I was born 2-3 months before my parents wedding but my father legally recognized me within the hour of my birth. I also would like to know about the status of my little brother, who is 20 years old and who has the same things as stated above but who was born after the marriage of our parents. Thanks for your infomations.
  9. 1. My wife and I are US citizens living in South Africa. 2. As missionaries, we return to the US for a few months every few years. 3. All our children were born abroad and have lived there with only brief visits to the US. Question: Is there a residency requirement for children of Citizens born abroad? In other words, must our children reside in the US for a certain number of years before 21 in order for their children to have US citizenship? We had heard there was a 5 year minimum residence requirement for children who had been born abroad and who had obtained US citizenship to parents who were US citizens. Is this true? Thanks very much for any help with this.
  10. Hi all, My husband finally got the citizenship interview scheduled after over 2 years pending, for his N-400 application. It says to bring his MX passport. A couple questions: - The NOA says to bring passport, green card and any other documents used for travel. Does it matter if his MX passport is expired? The USCIS document doesn’t mention validity. (We haven’t left the US since prior COVID started in 2019 and his passport expires this month which is of course the same month as his interview. 🤦🏻‍♀️) - He wants to renew his MX passport but isn’t sure the consulate will have it renewed prior to his interview. Does he need to wait to renew it? Or it needs to be valid so he has to renew it? - Does he need the original passport he traveled with for the interview or can he provide the renewed one if it’s done in time? TIA for your help!
  11. HI My brother applied for My husband and I to move to the US. My application was approved and I received a case number and an invoice ID to continue my application. IS it possible to add unmarried kids over 21 at this point. Has anyone been in this situation and is familiar with this. Not sure if its worth getting a lawyer at this point! Their names were not added to the initial application by the US citizen over 10yrs ago!
  12. Hey Guys!! I recently got my US visa after 4 years of waiting 2018-2022 as a f2a case ( child of permanent resident) . 13. Hello VJ family, I am writing this post on behalf of the person whom I am about to tell you their story. I am fully confident in your input that it might cause a beneficial change to this person. If any information is required at a later on date, I will post it to keep up to date with this thread. I have included all the tags so that someone else might benefit from this thread at a later on date/case. Best of luck to everyone. My story shall contain alias names to protect the privacy of all parties. (Sarah & David) Sarah came into the USA accompanied with her 2 children (one of which is a US citizen but at the time not of age to sponsor his mother). Sarah came into the USA in 06/2010 with her two children as a tourist. She later got married to David on 03/2011. David applied for her and she got her 2 years LPR on 08/2011, which expired on 08/2013. Sarah and David got divorced on 11/2013 resulting in a marriage period of 2yr 8months. Sarah, before letting her LPR expire on 08/2013 proceeded to attempt to renew her LPR online for an additional 10 years and received it. 01/2014-01/2024 Sarah did not stay in her marriage for the minimum of 3 years due to undisclosed reasons, her marital relationship only lasted 2 years and 8 months as stated above. Sarah then applied for her citizenship on 12/2017 after being a resident for over 5 years thinking that she was going to get her citizenship. Sarah passed her naturalization test, but got denied her citizenship as mentioned that she cannot prove that she was married until 01/2014. Is Sarah banned from ever getting her citizenship? How can she re-apply? What is the next steps that she needs to undergo to change her status from LPR to citizen?
  14. I am trying to figure out when to apply for Citizenship. I understand taking 3 years from the date of gc issue. However, do you take to the account foreign trips and subtract them from 90 days? GC says 03/12/20. Applying to Nader 3 year rule. If 90 days subtracted, can apply starting December 12. However, over these 3 years we traveled abroad for a total of 31 days. Do you subtract only 59 days from 03/12, which takes to the account period that I was out of the country or subtract 90 days and do not take to the account 4 vacation trips out of IS for a total of 31 days?
  15. Hi, I did the interview for my citizenship last month and I was waiting to be informed on when to go for the oath. The USCIS emailed me couple days later that because I asked for a name change, I have to file and send the form n-662 before they can continue my proceeding. I haven't received the form in the mail, and I can't find it anywhere on the internet to download and fill out. I have only 6 days left to send it to them, but I did everything to receive the form and it was unsuccessful. I don't know what to do. I traveled back to my home country for some family issues, that means I can go to their office now and ask any question. I called the line several time, but the automated system keeps sending me to the USCIS website, but the form is not there to download. I emailed them but they are only saying they he already sent it and there is nothing they can do, but I haven't received anything in the mail. Please I am stock and stressed. Where can I get the form n-662 to download. Thanks
  16. I’m in the process of applying for citizenship and I am bit confused re listing my trips outside of the states for the 5 year period. I came to the US on November 2018 via K1 visa. That brings me to 3,5 years of being here. I have traveled twice outside of the states within those years and easily stated it on the application. What to do about 1,5 year period (2017 - November 2018)? I did travel to Mexico and Russia but it was not “outside and back to the states” since I was living in Canada and travelled outside and back to Canada. Do I list my trips AFTER coming to the states permanently? I hope I was able to state my concerns clearly. TIA!!!!!!!!!
  17. Here’s one for us April 2022 N400 San Fernando Valley filers! Any progress since filing application?
  18. I am applying for the citizenship based on 3-year rule: being married to us citizen. The question: how many times your husband has been married? Before current marriage I have been married twice. Do I put number of marriages as 3, including current marriage or 2 (just prior marriages)? thank you
  19. Hi all, I just moved to a new address recently and I was wondering if US citizens have to complete and send the form AR-11.
  20. Good afternoon everyone, I got a super speeding ticket in January, 2021 in GA I am applying for Citizenship and will this be a reason for N400 denial? Has anyone experienced the same? It was super speeding ticket not just a ticket Thank you so much for your feedback
  21. I was denied my N400 due to the IRS not registering certain tax years, which has been corrected. However my N336 which i never received notice to attended a hearing for (no electronic via online USCIS profile or in writing in the mail) was denied cause i never showed up for a hearing i never knew was scheduled. I have no idea where to turn next. I cant afford a lawyer. The blogs and letters say i need a court date with a district court but everywhere i call or email they say i’m not in the system. How do i get into the system for a hearing?? Please any help
  22. My husband had his citizenship interview under 3 year rule and he passed civics test but he got rfe The officer said he was missing past 3 years worth tax returns. We filed jointly the last 2 years but didn't file in 2019 because we did not meet minimum threshold to file a tax return. When the RFE notice becomes available to us ( the officer verbally explained to him why he is getting rfe but we didnt receive any official mail yet) we were going to send our most recent 2 years tax return and explain why we didn't file in 2019. But I just checked our documents and we answered NO to a question that asked Have you ever NOT filed a tax return.............. And now I'm scared that his case will be denied for not answering truthfully.....although it was a honest mistake. We are planning on sending our tax documents for 2019 that shows that we were not required to file a tax return and we are also planning on filing late tax return for 2019 anyway and send that as well... Is filing a late tax return anyway a bad idea? If we attach a letter explaining that we realized we answered a question wrong hurt our case? Any answer would really help...
  23. Hello, I couldn't really find a relevant forum so I'm hoping this might reach someone who has some insight. I am a UK Citizen currently on a 10 yr Green Card expiring in Sept 2022. I have applied for US Citizenship. Mostly because: 1: Our long term plans are to live in USA 2: My mother in UK is unwell and I may need to return and live there for more than a year to care for her and I don't want to have my Green Card rescinded or need to apply for exceptions after 1 year. So, the best course of action seems to be to gain Citizenship that way I can work and live in the UK as a UK citizen but then return to USA as a US citizen at a later time. I do understand there are tax implications to do that and I'll need to file when I am in UK. My question is, do I have any big blind spots or concerns with this course of action? Plus my wife is a US citizen and will need to work in the UK so any insight into wat the best plan/Visa type for her would be appreciated. Thank you, Tim
