  • Our Story
My husband and I met in 2006 while I was not quite 16, and I was on a trip with my Grandparents. I met him through the people we were visiting. We instantly clicked, and kept in contact while I was in Canada. It wasn't until 2010 that I was able to see him again. We eloped while I was visiting him in Colorado. We moved east to Massachusetts shortly after and filed the I-130 and I-485 there, without a lawyer. We then figured out my husband falls under the Adam Walsh Act, as we got a request for further evidence. I ended up having to go back to Canada because I was really sick at the time, therefore abandoning the petition. We then sent in the I-130 again in September 2012, without a lawyer. We sent in all the evidence to waive the Adam Walsh Act, although we knew it probably wasn't enough. I was able to cross the border in August 2013 to come visit. We talked to a lawyer and found out I can still adjust my status while I'm here, so we filed the I-485 last week. Friday, January 31, 2013, we received a denial decision notice. I contacted a lawyer again, to see what our options are. We are going to go ahead and appeal the decision. Our lawyer has recently had a couple AWA victories, so we're very hopeful. He said based on our case, it's likely going to work out for us.
