The AP document is good for one year, but I believe if you are planning on being outside of the US for longer than 60days you should notify immigration.

Remember to bring both pages of AP that you got. People bring only 1 since they are identical, but then the officers at POE give a hard time asking where the other one is. Be on the safe side, bring both copies.

Be safe on your travels, hope your father in law will be ok. rose.gif

A stay outside the US of more than six months can be construed as abandonment of status.

He has no status, yet.

No time limit on AP, other than the validity of the document.

Thank you everyone for the responses to my question and the concern expressed. We made it to Egypt fine, and my FIL is out of his coma and hopefully will be home by mid-week. smile.gif

Untrue. My wife accompanied me with an AP document for 8 months while I worked on a project in China.

I would keep documents that establish that you have been together, but the AP is valid for one year.

You only have to notify the USCIS if you're planning on being gone for one year.
