So it is my understanding that when you send in Packet 3 that you just send back the first 4 pages with the checklist - so I have 2 questions

1) on the checklist do you only check items applicable to you and leave others blank? We have no children and he has no military record, adoption papers, court records etc.

2) do you just send in the signed checklist or do you also send in DS 230 part 1??? I thought that it was just the checklist but I read in another thread someone sent in the DS 230 Part 1 with their checklist.

thanks
Sara

1) correct

2) Checklist (DS-2001) and DS-230 Part 1.

I sent DS-230 part I in with the other forms they requested BEFORE the checklist because that's what the letter from the embassy says. I'm looking at that letter right now and step four simply states to send in the checklist when you have everything compiled - nothing more. DS-230 part I, DS-156, DS-156K and DS-157 should all have been sent in ahead of time when you first received packet 3.

Not according to packet 3, which once again I'm looking at in front of me. I'd trust a letter from the embassy over their website. And the letter states:

STEP ONE

Please complete and return the following forms to us straight away. Failure to do so will delay the processing of your application. They can all be found on the Embassy's website at =
http://london.usembassy.gov/cons_new/visa/.../visaforms.html - and should be completed online and downloaded.

DS 230 Part I
DS-156
DS-156K
DS-157

Step two is to collect together all the required evidence and documentation. Step three is to arrange the medical. Step four is to COMPLETE AND RETURN THIS DOCUMENT CHECKLIST TO US.

Recent London embassy grads - any insight on this? It always was that you brought the completed forms to the interview? Do you now send them back with the checklist?
elmcitymaven
For the avoidance of doubt, it's okay to send the checklist with the DS-230 Part 1 if you have everything (or are near enough...) -- you needn't send them separately.

julez -- I wish I knew the answer, but as a DCFer we only had the DS-230 to worry about.

The fact that we've all had some communication from the embassy and some of us think the forms should be taken to the interview, others think they should be sent straight away and still others think they should be sent with the checklist shows just what a ###### Kafkaesque nightmare this entire process is. If it were for any other purpose than to be with my other half I'd have given up in frustration long ago.
Gwen666
When we did the K-1, we sent just the DS-230 and the checklist to the embassy and carried the other forms with us.

Now I'm getting concerned. It took me a long time to fill out and print all those forms and I sent them recorded delivery to the address listed in packet 3. I don't even know if they received them because nobody signed for my parcel even though Royal Mail lists it as delivered. I've got the letter from the embassy to prove that they asked me to send them all and not bring them to the interview, but reason doesn't seem to figure into this process much.

Well, since you have sent them, to err on the side of caution, I would complete and print a second set to bring to the interview. better safe than sorry.

We need Rosemarie L or Freecake to come along and weigh in on this since they are recent K1 aprovees.

Do your packet 3s contradict mine, then? I notice the instructions on mine are dated August 2006, but they specifically state that the forms should be sent in before the checklist and that no other forms are required to be sent with the checklist.

And of course there's nobody at the embassy I can call to ask, because the last time I did that the woman on the other end was so inept she thought I should still be talking to Vermont.
RosemarieL
I sent in the forms but I printed off an additional copy which I took to the embassy with me on the off chance that they misplaced the ones that I mailed.
barrel_roll
And had they misplaced them? Did you receive any correspondence from the embassy to say whether they'd received them? Had they received them at all? And did you send them to this address:

Yes, that sounds wise, better safe then sorry! I wonder why they changed the instructions? wacko.gif
I thought the whole point was that you are supposed to sign the forms in the presence of the Embassy official.

You mustn't sign that form until you get to the embassy but you do sent it in with Packet 3.

Could you answer my post on the last page, Rosemarie? We're pretty worried here. Thank you.

They didn't misplace them so I took a copy to London for nothing (but it's good to have the peace of mind to know they are there if needed). I received no confirmation of receipt from them but I did ring the Department of State about 8 days after the package was sent to the Embassy and they were able to let me know my interview date.

WOW! Thanks for all the response on this and sorry to make anyone nervous about how they did it! We are going to do the same as Rose and send in all the forms with the checklist and the DS2001 and also take copies to the interview. cannot hurt to be overprepared!
