As flashy as some of the tv shows can be, the more serious ones seem so damn cheesy. Jinky likes CSI: Miami and we were watching it last night. Everyone has a near perfect body and David Caruso's face is always shown through a soft filtered lens.

The dialogue, the believability, the plot, everything ...I cannot suspend my disbelief because its so far from reality. I like make believe, but when they package it as 'serious' and 'realistic' in an attempt to hide the cheesiness, it only makes it more obvious.

i hate those CSI type shows...
i really like Crossing Jordan though but that show didn't really take itself too seriously.. I just wish they would put it on DVD already...

I agree. The first few seasons were really good. That guy who's on The Office played a really strange intern who rented a room in the house. I haven't really kept up with it though in the last couple of years.
Curb Your Enthusiasm is another HBO great.

Edit: Rain Wilson...he's really good at strange.

Arrested Development was one of the funniest shows ever on TV. It even had a planned end, how novel an idea.
I forget who said it, but there is a quote that every good show is on for one season too long. That will never be said about Arrested Development. There was no lame final show like Seinfeld. There weren't 3 or 4 unwatchable seasons like Friends. It ended in 3 years and did so with grace and dignity.

The first 3 episodes of season 1 of the wire are kind of slow and it's a bit difficult to get your head around all the different characters - but the show starts to really kick off once Omar and the stick-up crew appear. And then it's more addictive than crack .

Weeds is great. Seasons one and two in particular. Season three started off well enough, but they're starting to run out of ways for her to get in and out of trouble. It probably should have ended at 3, even Mary-Louise Parker said so. I think she's reluctant to sign on for season 4.

Season 3 was good too. But, yah, they had a few too many mishaps. I was getting dizzy watching some of the episodes.
Still can't wait for 4 though!

well instant viewing for me sucks cuz of our internet speed. and watching sitting in front of the comp is not the same as watching in our big tv lying in bed.
