Hello Everyone on VJ

Today we got a request from the Embassy thru DHL to get a Movement Certificate and send in his passport.
Does anyone know of what this is for? My husband never travelled outside of Egypt and I am sure the Embassy CO saw that when he looked at his passport back in May.
Did anyone go thru this before they got the visa? And about how long did it take after u sent it to the embassy? Actually I have a few more questions but that will be for those who had to get a Movement Certificate...

hi Tam .. hope your trip is going on so well ,
every applicant passport get scaned at the embassy so it's not just a quick look .. and if someone has never been out of Egypt so ofcourse they can see that he hasn't been out of Egypt .. so methink it's just a ROUTINE step .
EX: asking the applicants for a full set fingerprint .. and when you attend to your interview they take another Index scan ... so don't worry about it .

by the way .. let him go tomorrow to apply for this movement certificate coz as far as i know it takes almost 2 weeks .

I know many people who are recieve request like this and this was final step before visa in hand
It is like wael say it is A Routine
He can go to mogama3 altharir in cairo in the first floor with copy of first 6 pages of his passport
and will write a request in the office
they will give him the response after at least 2 week not before this.
they will give him after 2 week a peper say he never leave egypt from 1993 till now

well that's so right .
obtaining this certificate from Cairo is faster than Alexandria .. some people said it took them 3-4 weeks here in Alex .. but almost 2 weeks from Cairo .

Sounds like one little girl named Tamara will have her husband in the USA very very soon. I am rooting for you girl...

Yay.......this is awesome news.....

Moh got a request for this about 4 weeks before he got his visa. He went to Cairo a few days after receiving the request. He was told it would be complete in two weeks. He returned after the two weeks and DHLed it back to the consulate. His visa was issued a week and a half later. I hope it moves just as fast for you guys.

I do have to give you a small warning though. The movement cert. isn't always the "last" step. There is one case I know of (Cairobound) whose husband got this request the same day as Moh but they're still waiting.

Cairo is so confusing. I wonder why they request this from some people and not others.

OK so today he goes to Passport office to get his movement certificate... they tell him 3 weeks & they only needed a copy of his ID card... is that normal??? I wanted him to give them a copy of his passport but they wouldnt take it...
AND ... since he did it in Alex.. and we are travelling to Cairo tonight... can he get it done in Cairo too and see which one is faster ??? Any ideas? -Tam

AND... does he have to take it to the ministry of foreign affairs to get any kind of stamp on it ???

3 weeks are fine for Alex ..
but did they look at his passport at least to see when it was issued and when it will expire and also to take the passport number ?
if they did so that's fine they don't need to keep it and there is no need for a copy BUT if they didn't take these info i would say there should be missunderstanding coz i know the movement certificate must include the passport details .

no they haven't requested it .. maybe they will, maybe they won't .. coz it's not a basic requirement .

Please forgive my ignorance.....but what is a movement certificate and why is it needed?

I think it is an official certificate showing exactly where you have moved in and out of the country. It is needed not all of the time. A few have had it requested but no telling why they request it from some and not others.

it's a piece of paper, has the immigration department stamp .
tells the ( dates / places / period of time / purpose of visit ) whenever the one has been out of the country ..
i wish i was sure why it's needed

Moh never travelled out of Egypt either plus the consulate had his passport during AP/AR. Who knows why they want it from some and not from others. At any rate, this may signal the end to your waiting, Tam, so consider it a good thing.

i got the same request yasterday, and iwent and did it tday and they took a copyof my ID and i had a friend with me he had his passport and they took his passport copy it so confusing and they told me God welling i will get in three weeks Hopefully by the way i a K1 visa

excuse me .. but was your friend there for another movement cerificate too ..
or you are just trying to say that because your passport was left at the embassy since the interview so you gave them your friend passport instead of yours ?
in this case you should expect the movement certificate to be under your name but the rest of the info is gonna b your friend passport's details

The Embassy sent my husband another letter thru dhl and it was another request for the movement certificate and passport... and dated sept 11th ... at least I know they are thinking about him... -Tam

My SO decided he needed this (especially since he has travelled outside the country alot) and went and got it anyway the same day he requested his military record and police report. I told him he didn't need it bc I hadn't read this thread and I just realized this is the paperwork he was telling me about..... So I guess it's a good thing he went and requested it and will send it in with the rest of his pkt 3

the military record and the police report are fine ... but the movement certificate is not to be obtained untill the embassy request it .

I agree since not everyone has been requested to obtain it. Not sure if it would actually hurt your case by including it. They may request another later on even though your SO already included it with the packet 3.

True since, unless they kept his passport, how would they know he did not leave the country from the time you submitted it to the time they are ok with giving out the visa...

i guess if you obtain the movment certficate earlier its good either they need it
if they did need it they would use it if not it would bother them

Very good points... maby I can talk him into just taking it to the interview.... I don't know, he's absolutely certain he needs it (someone else probably had to provide it to the embassy or something and told him he needs it) It's not in the packet 3 info so we'll see if I can talk to him out of it until they ask for it.

dates are important .. if that date was before the embassy request the certificate .. you just gave yourself delay .. coz they will ask for a new one .

No, she didn't give herself a delay. They haven't even had an interview yet. If they ask for it then they'll just have to get a new one which will take the same amount of time it's taking everyone else that is asked to get one. The only thing *possibly* wasted was the money to get the certificate but we're all speculating here.

OK , let me be more clear here ....
if someone sent packet 3 without the movement certificate ... which is much better
he shouldn't obtain the movement certificate BEFORE the mebassy request it ..
coz if he obtained earlier to save himself 2-3 weeks then he send it if they request it .. more than likely they will request another one .
so the DELAY is when ( he send the first one ... wait for the embassy to find out that it's an old dated ... snd him another letter or give him a call .. etc ........... )

Oh right! Ok I get that now but hopefully he'll ask during the interview if it's acceptable or not instead of waiting for them to just figure it out. lol

New Question: Does he send in his passport with the pkt 3, or take it to the embassy during the interview? I'm a little confused on this point because it lists the passport right after the list of photocopies and translated documents..... But if he sends in his passport with the pkt3 the day he gets the movement certificate, how does a movement certificate become invalide since he can't leave the country again anyway?

My husband sent a copy of his passport with the packet 3. He sent in copies of his Birth cert., military cert., marriage cert. and brought the originals to the interview. He did send the original police report and medical exam report in with the packet 3.

Hello VJ friends... Today has been 3 weeks since my husband went to the Alex office for this Movement Certificate... they told him "Oh if its for the US Embassy then there is NO definite time for it to get here!"
He said they didnt even bother looking or anything
Its nearly been 3 weeks as well since he did that in Cairo too... still nothing from the Cairo office... His cousin is in Cairo and has been checking on it for him as well...
I dont understand this... what the heck is going on ??? Any ideas or comments from any of u who have experienced getting a movement certificate from alex or cairo? why would it take 3+ weeks??? and what to do ? or just keep asking for it and waiting??? This is holding us up from sending it and the passport to the Embassy for the visa

Hey Tam, is this the same thing as obtaining permission to leave the country? If so, we're waiting for that too even though we have the visa.

hey! nope this is the paper from the passport office telling whether he's travelled out the country or not and when and to where... but hes never travelled before... and its already been 3 weeks of waiting for this paper (movement certificate)

I think that someone else on here said it takes about three weeks to get it from Alex so maybe next week it will happen? I'm so sorry this must be the worst part since you're right at the end of it all.

I really hope this will be the end once we get the MC paper and send that with the passport... I would sure love for Adam to get his visa and be with me this month in October. We met 2 years ago in October and on October 27th will be 9 years since my dad passed away from cancer . Normally October and the holidays are a very difficult time of year for me bcz I always think alot more about my dad and the memories we all shared as a family during the holidays. Now I am all alone in Georgia and have been living on my own for 5 years and right now I am even more lonely without my husband here with me... It would be a wonderful gift and memory for us if Adam could be here by the 2nd year anniversary of when we met October 23rd -Tam
