Jigi

Packet 3 contains the following:
1) Applicants Statement - From Packet 3 PDF Docs Checklist (link to pdf
2) DS-230 Part 1
3) 2inchx2inch Photos
4) Copy of Passport (bio/parent pages).

Oh my signature shows it (a bit) also)
Jigi

Well see NVC required only the DS230 Part 1 and Passport Photocopies, I sent these to NVC as they required also.
While here the Mumbai consulate requires some of the same items additional items like the Checklist Applicant statement and photos.
Dont know if you saw the pdf I linked too.

Hi Bacchha!

When you are going through IR1/CR1 process, you won't be receiving packet 3 from consulate in India.

Rather, NVC/Consulate would only mail you packet 4 - which is instructions that comes along with your appointment letter.

Hope this helps!
Cheers

Happy New Year!!!

This thread has been quite for couple of days, just saying hi ;-)
Dunhill
The sudden change from standard to appointment processing is so bad and we have to run for documents all of a sudden!

Should we send Orginals in case of appointment processing? i saw a option of sending certified documents also, that means we can send attested copies of orginals too? ...if so from were do we get all this documents attested?

Thanks!

ze22
Hi Dunhill

I sent original birth and marriage certs coz the respective authorities had issued 2 copies of each. But I had only one original PCC so I sent a photocopy notarized by a notary lawyer. I hope they accept it coz I didn't want to take a chance by sending the original PCC, just in case they misplace the original. I will take it with me at the time of interview.

Praying that all goes well at NVC and I hear "CASE COMPLETE" sssoooonnn...

All the Best

My DS-230 instructions was still for standard processing...so I followed standard processing and sent docs accordingly.

My guess if your DS-230 was generated in Dec'07 than its standard processing.

Anyways, My DS-230 is with NVC - I will keep you folks posted.

Cheers

Spoke to NVC again regarding certified copies......

We should get attested/certified copies from issuing authorities it self!! ....i guess better to send the orginals instead of running around........but at the same time i am worried about getting the originals back safely unsure.gif ........lets pary thats is the only way!!
mgk
Dunhill, you could send photocopies that were notarized in India to NVC...

OK, time to post my case status...I spoke to operator today and was told that I have to send original - marriage certificate, spouse's birth certificate and police certificates.

Luckily, my wife has already got her police certificates. I will now have to mail them back to NVC next week.

So we have to send originals to NVC now :-)

NVC schedules the interview date...technically ur case was updated on 24th. So hopefully if you call NVC this Thursday, you may get an update. Also, some folks say that interviews are scheduled between 2nd and 3rd week of each month.

Cheers!
mgk
HEADS UP!!! Folks include two passport pictures for your DS230 filings, even if your checklist doesn't request one. Write case number and beneficiary's name in back of the picture.

NVC has made this new requirement from 29th.

Another RFE :-) this for the document I have already sent in (original birth certificate). NVC is going review our files again and its going to take 10-15 days.

Frustrating...but hanging in there...
Dunhill

Hi Guys,

Did you all attach photocopies of orginal/certified civil documents along with DS 230 ?? i did not do so and did not retain a copy of notorised civil documents....will i get a RFE for this? any experience??
ze22
There is a requirement to attach photocopies of the civil documents. In case they ask for it then you can send photocopy of the originals... Better to explain the situation to NVC before sending the copies. I hope they don't but with NVC you never know coz they send false RFE too...
All the Best!!!

Hi all,
We have just started our i-130 petition, but I would like to educate myself as much as I can.

I was reading through the Indian posts and have seen a few people saying how they went to Delhi embassy to submit their DS-230.

Well my consulate is Chennai but I am from Port Blair, so its not easy for me to travel back and forth. So I would like to know is do I have to submit DS-230 at the Chennai embassy personally or I can post them. I do realise I have to go there personally when I get an interview date and when I have to submit the police certificate and other documents, which will be only 10 days prior to the interview.

Also as Dunhill pointed out "We should get attested/certified copies from issuing authorities it self!!"

Do I really have to take those from the issuing authority? Because we got married in Jamshedpur and that means I will have to go to Jamshedpur to get them attested? Or can These be attested by any gazetted officer?

Thanks for all the help
ze22
Hi! Once you have submitted your I-130 you will have to wait until it gets approved. Then your case is transfered from USCIS to NVC (National Visa center). For immigrant visa cases assigned to an Appointment Post, the NVC will collect the fees, affidavit of support, civil documents and police certificates, as required. When the case is complete, NVC will schedule an appointment for an interview with a consular officer. DS230 is submitted at NVC not Madras for IR1/CR1 visa.
You don't need to submit any documents at Chennai (Madras). It is only at the time of interview that you will need to carry certain documents. Please do read the guide and follow the flowchart it is very helpful.
I got my documents attested by notary lawyer and my case is complete. No problem at all.... I am waiting for my interview date at chennai. I hope I get it soon. I hope I answered your questions. Guys if you have any more input pls do add...

HI Ze22,

Any upadte about your interview date? are you in standard processing or application processing?
Dunhill
Hi silent,

You can submit your documents in N Delhi only if your US spouse is staying with you in india; otherwise your spouse has to file the i 130 only in US. Pls go through FAQs & Guides of this website for more clarity.

Regarding the documents attestation, it is better if you have certified copies from issuing authorities itself or else you need to send in your orginal documents another option would be getting your documents attested by a notory public.

Hope it helps!
ze22
I am going thru Madras and it has now changed to appointment NVC processing. My case is completed but I haven't got my Interview date. NVC has to schedule the interview. I hope they schedule it soon.

Thanks Ze22 and Dunhill,

Yes my husband is in US and he will be filling the i-130 petition either by today or tomorrow.

I am trying to more and more learn about the whole process, I think I have grasped the USCIS part but NVC part is still unclear to me, but hopefully I will learn it by the time we get to that.

Ze22, I do realise that you have sent your original certificates, just wondering how safe is it to send the originals? I am more thinking about notarising it by any of the public notary officer.

Hi Silent,

You are now early in the game. Since you folks are filinf for I130 with USCIS, certified copies should be good enough.

After your I130 is approved, you papers get transferred to NVC and NVC assigns case # and rest of the stuff. Its only when you file DS-230, you may need to submit original documents.

Hope this helps...

Cheers

Got RFE asking to send orginal Civil documents!! .......so guys better send Orginals instead of notorised documents!!

ze22
I submitted Original Birth and Marriage certificates with a notarized PCC ...... My case was completed on 18th Jan but I don't know why they are taking soooooo long to allot an interview at chennai... I called NVC today and they told that I am not in the March list crying.gif crying.gif crying.gif I can't understand the logic when you apply for a non immigrant visa you get an interview within 10 days... and when your immigrant visa case is complete still you have to wait for 2 months..... protest6wz.gif
I'm just waiting waiting and waiting..... God please helpsmilie.gif
Dunhill
So sad to know that you should wait another 2 months more to get a interview date after case complete...so disappointing........did they give you any specific reason for the delay?
