Server Load is too high now. The Search Feature is offline and will return shortly. Thank you for understanding.

Odd. I can check the server log later but it was probably just something random. Some of the threads on the board are getting pretty large and that can cause slow downs. I try and let them run as long as possible.

It has been awhile since I did any admin with message boards but doesn't the amount of graphics and fluff in signatures create a strain?

Not too much. We are on a beefy server but the limiting factor is the database as it gets big. Long threads and forums searches cause the most strain on the server. The google seach tool we use on the top of all pages is pretty good overall and does not hit the server directly -- it is the forums only search that will tax the server. I put a tool in a while ago to turn off the forums only search tool when loads get too high (which can prevent issues from occuring).

The site wouldn't load at all for me last night (7pm UK) at least twice.

I am with dawn,..I had major issues getting the site to load for about an hour last night,..and again just tonight about 30 minutes ago,...I could get everything else I wanted to look at loaded, but visajourney would not come up. I even did a diagnosis, and had some DNS server error, saying it could not recognise the www.visaajourney.com domain.

its currently 606pm in germany on Tuesday,..and 906am in California, same day,..if that helps any. Was exactly the same problem at 11pm my time last night, which would of been 2pm yesterday afternoon in cali

I can close the large threads on the board (5-10k posts in the thread) and have people reopen them. That will actually help a lot.

I think that's a good idea....also in the doggy thread the photos have been quite large....but I am not a computer expert at all so have no idea whether this would actually affect anything?

I don't think so because a lot of them are actually linked from another site but I could be wrong...
