Hello every one, well we have set our marriage date for dec 28th, and some how have managed to plan a nice wedding in less than three months. Elina and I discussed posting our k-1 experience from start to finis(to this point) with the interview poe uscis process in English and in Russian. if any one would be interested or think it would help there lady (or guy) for it to be in Russian we would be happy to do it.


Ok 2 questions, on the visa flowchart on this site it states that we should apply for aos before the k-1 expires, the problem with that is that we are getting married just a few days before the expiration date, and wont be able to get the aos package out untill, after our honeymoon(approx 2 weeks after marriage) is this going to be a problem?

2. In the future, after we get our aos approval and get the "10 year" green card. whats the next step after that? thats where the flowchart ends.after that the process just ends? after the 10 years she is just a regular citizen? Thanks guys

Won't be a problem. I'm not sure why the suggestion is there, other than to just get it started as early as possible. But you won't run into any problems.



Not sure after that, but she doesn't just become a regular citizen. She has to apply for citizenship. I think you can apply after 5 years, but someone should double-check me on that.

She can apply for USC 3 years from date on the GC. 90 days before.
She'll get a 2 year GC when she gets her first GC and will have to remove condition in 2 years to get the 10 year GC
Actually send in I-751 in 21 months. 90 days before expiration.

The earliest she can apply for US citizenship is if she has met all the residency requirements and has had her green card for 3 years. Use the date of issuance of the card as the starting point.

Also, I don't know if you've thought of it yet, but paying single rate taxes all year, then claiming the wife when filing is awesome for the ol' tax return! I got married in mid-December and when I filed, I claimed the wife (who was not working) and got a $#!tload of money back on the tax return. So, there you go, have a happy honeymoon because you'll be getting reimbursed in a month or two!

For your questions:
1. AOS doesn't have to be filed for before K-1 expires. My wife's was like six weeks later or something like that. Technically, you don't ever have to file for AOS if you don't want to. You probably should though, and as soon as possible after marriage, but back when we did it, I didn't realize there was going to be several hundred bucks involved and a trip or two to the civil surgeon and public health offices. (See above for where we got the money to fund that little expenditure.)

2. After she gets the 10 year GC (which will expire at her 12 or 13 year point) she simply needs to apply for a new one. Most folks are naturalized before that happens, so she can elect to become a USC before expiration if she so desires.

Good for you My husband owes a $@*tload of child support, so all these refunds are intercepted and used to pay it off. Last year I was being generous, cause it's for the child after all, but this time I will file an "injured spouse" claim so I'll get at least something back. But that's just for the federal, cause the state refund goes bye bye anyways - community property state.

I hate that child support stuff.

WoW, It didnt even cross my mind about filing as married yet and weve been married 7 months already. Looking foward to that tax return already.

Looks like I will miss that bit of change due to the bog down in processing of my K-1.

Could have really used it to as the down stairs gas-pack went out, thankfully the weather has been nice which gave me time to wheel and deal.
