Hi i have just sent the i-765 and the i-485. The only thing i am really wanting to know is the timescale for the work permit. I was really hoping to work pretty soon. I have been in the US for 3 months and thought i had to get married and recieve my marrage certificate before i filed these forms. Please dont tell me it will be months before i can work as this would be a real problem.

Thanks again for your answers..

I'd suggest taking a look at the timelines at the top of the page to get an idea as to how long it'll be for the EAD. There have been reports that USCIS has been delayed with general processing due to the fee increase in July. Generally it shouldn't take any longer than a couple of months though.

Well, even you don't want to hear (or read) it, but it can take months until you receive your EAD. Expect at least 60 to 90 days before you can start working.

As a worst case scenario expect the worst. See my timeline below. My EAD didn't arrive for 4 months.

It took Claudeth about 75 days. I think there are some stats for the EAD in the Immigration Timelines link at the top of the page

Good luck... We applied for my husbands on July 30th and we are still waiting. It has become a nightmare. No one at the help line or the local office can help us at all, or give us any information. Friday will be a month since we requested they expedite his application because we were outside the 90 day processing time, now we are 125 days since we filed. I hope you have better luck than us!

I had the letter sent and it sped it up. So maybe they will get on it soon.
