I can't imagine how hard that would be. crying.gif I hope things work out for her

It’s funny that this should come up now. On November 21st, it will be 1 year that we’ve been on Administrative Processing. I’ve written the senator, Condeleeza Rice, etc. hoping to get some sort of resolution and/or answers of why it’s taking so long. Throughout our process, I was told to contact the NVC a couple of weeks ago and found out our papers were sent there the end of June and they finished their work in the beginning of August. Through my letter contacting Ms. Rice, I received a phone call from a head person at the DOS. He told me that our papers are now in Homeland Security and have been there since July. He told me that there’s no one I can contact as to the length of time that it could take, but we just have to wait it out. I did find out that the checks that they are making are on my husbands end. So we have a little more information that I had last week. Does anyone know of a way to contact Homeland Security to see how long there stuff can take?

We've had a couple from Cairo sent back -- not many, but some.

did you call DOS and find out the staus of the security checks?

not sure what/who you mean by homeland security as that includes a lot of government offices. if you mean DOS who does the security checks then this is the phone number to call to make an inquiry about your status>>>

202-663-1225 and press 1 and then 0 to get a visa specialist.

you will need your case number.

there is absolutely nothing one can do about AP/AR but wait it out. i suppose if it goes over 5 years then you may be able to file a mandus in federal court but that is a long way off for you at the moment.

Randal Emery is trying to get legislation to get the security checks moving faster. here is an article about it. it does give the dates but i dont think it would hurt to let you voice be know even now.

Each day through Monday, November 12th please call your Congressman
(find yours at www.house.gov) with the following message:

"National security requires that the FBI actually LOOK in the name
check files. We want the House to make that change in the CJS
appropriations bill. Please instruct the conferees."

If anybody has any questions (particularly from any Congressional
staff) please contact us at stories@securecheckalliance.org

Please forward this message widely! Everybody can take part.

I've been calling the DOS weekly now for sometime. The answer that I always got was that we were still in Administrative Processing and we have to just wait. The man that called me from the DOS said our papers were at Homeland Security. He said this is not the DOS and I should just keep calling the DOS weekly.

Same here sad.gif . DOS told me that our papers were at Immigration (Homeland Security) and that we were in Administrative Processing and we just have to wait until they're finished with that and they'll send the case back to the Embassy. And then the Embassy will decide whether to issue the visa or not.

I decided to limit my calls to DOS (i used to call every week) and emails to the Embassy to only once a month. It's just too depressing crying.gif (I always call hopeful for them to say that our case has been sent to the embassy for final steps, but I always get the same response).

Anyway, I hope everyone's cases get cleared up soon.

Hugs,

I just talked to DOS today about our case. I was told that they have finished their part in DOS quite some time ago ( he wouldn't give exact dates) and that our case is back in Cairo for them to finish up. That is scary. Why are they waiting? I can't imagine what else they would be checking since home investigation and all other checks appear to be done.

So I'm right along with you hoping that all these cases hanging for so long will be cleared soon. wacko.gif wacko.gif

when I call DOS I am always told our case is in Cairo in AP not in the us. yesterday i was told that they are checking out the results of the interview to match what my fiance said to the information in the file and this takes time? It made no sense, I really don't understand. Becky and Sam I think tha'ts good news it will just take some time for them to issue the visa a month or two smile.gif
I hope we all get some happy news soon

I am trying to limit my contaact as well 1 time a week to call DOS and 1 time a month to write cairo, which does no good cause at this point they don't even respond. I am waiting for my congressman's office to get back with me on what to do.

When we went through our process I would get different answers as to our case each week I called. Luckily my Senator's liaison was able to step in and get the real facts. It helps to have a pro active liaison.

I just called to see if Cairo has done anything on our case (early I know blush.gif ) but they said that it shows he had his interview and it's being processed in Cairo.... So are we in AP (ie. home visit, movement certificate, ect...) or they just need to review the info from the interview before sending it for the additional checks??? Why in the hell would they tell him 2 weeks if they are going to do AP in Cairo which they know will take at least 3 months???

YUP, Calling DOS is just plain old depressing! crying.gif Not to mention confusing wacko.gif even when it's only been 3 days

Who did your husband have as the consular officer at the interview?

If it was a young, kind, African American woman with hijab.........then you really might be hearing something within the two weeks.......maybe even sooner.

Also, for those of you who have been & are waiting forever in AP in Cairo for a K3 visa.......if your I130 is not expired and you can somehow get it forwarded to the NVC and pursue a CR1/IR1 visa........go for it.

I thought long & hard before filing an I824 to have the I130 forwarded to the NVC to pursue a CR1 visa alongside the K3.......but, in retrospect, I am really glad I did because my husband got the CR1 visa 7 days after his interview........meanwhile, the K3 is still in AP.........since May. At the interview he was told he'd get it within 2 weeks.

I honestly feel that there is a complete lack of communication between Cairo's immigrant & nonimmigrant visa units. I also honestly feel that who you get as your CO at your interview has a lot to do with how long you'll wait for a visa.

Good luck to everyone still waiting. This process is very frustrating.
